Dear Jake's Mom:
I'm a 16-year-old musician/sort-of artist, who has had an on-and-off obsession with this amazing website.
Jake is an excellent artist, as well as one of the coolest guys that has ever graced the music forum with his presence. When I was just starting to get to know the music forum regulars, he was one of the first that I started talking to.
Now, after leaving Deviantart for a while, I decided to come back recently. and when I found out that Jake had left us, I was pretty upset, seeing as i was just getting into his artwork, and was looking forward to talking to him and other members of this site.

To Jake's mother:
Your actions are admittedly understandable in "light" of various debaucheries that have taken place online and have made national news headlines.
But realise this: Your son is brilliantly intelligent and intellectual, and has the demeanor and mindset of a grown adult, who can realise the strategic differences of the internet and real life, thus making the appropriate decision when called for.
I'm Carl Simmons, by the way. I'm a freshman at Indiana University, and I run an impromptu Internet Relay Chat channel, in which we all merely congregate, and talk, about anything and everything: How our day was, funny stories, inquiries about life, anything.
I'd have written something sooner, but I haven't had time due to classes and finals, so I am writing this now, because the rest of us have written something, and just out of curiosity if you do check up on Jake and his dA account. Jake is a good friend, to all of us. We're really like a family, and we all realise that we are in fact, people, who do live real lives outside of this website, and so we aim to treat each other that way.
Jake: Keep up the good work.

Dear Jake's Mum,
First things first, you have raised a wonderful son. If you're reading this, take a minute to look through his gallery. His use of colour, perspective and framing are amazing, and the envy of many "real" artists here, as the comments will show. And all this from a 14 year old with no formal training.
Yes, we are all aware that Jake is 14. He was 13 when I first "met" him. But this is a site for artists, it's not Myspace or Facebook, there's no creepy ulterior motive. Take a look at the people who went out of their way to leave messages for you and Jake. I'm 22 myself, `AxD is 24 (and happily married), =skulkey is in his 30's and the average age of everyone else is somewhere around 18 or 19. When was the last time you saw a 14 year old command enough respect to be even listened to by a group of our age, let alone be petitioned to return? `TerrorCookie is actually a moderator here and have hundreds of messages a day to look through, yet she went out of her way to coax 1 guy back, who doesn't even pay to use this site.
To sum it up, your son is amazingly talented, and if this message says nothing else to you, please, please nurture this. He will go far in whatever he turns his hand to. He's smart, funny and caring, far beyond his years. He worked up the same level of respect on this site that I had after 2 years in a matter of months. He's run rings around most of us by this point, whilst we were impersonating stupid 14 years olds for cheap laughs, he was impersonating a black Anti-Apartheid Activist who died in the 70's.
DA without Jake will be like Cheers without Diane, basically.

Dear Jake's mum:
I'm a Scottish photography student, currently studying at one of the world's biggest art universities, based in London. Whatever you decide in regard to the website, please remember that Jake is a talented boy who has a lot of passion for photography. Please always encourage this - he has a lot of potential and he has a great eye for colour and composition. If nothing else, when the time comes, make sure he gets to a really good art school.
Jake's a good kid, he's clever and mature; he's made friendships on this website with people who really do give him the emotional support that at this time in his life he might feel he can't really get elsewhere. When I was his age I had a little too much independence and messed things up, but Jake's way more mature than I ever was. He's got a good head on those shoulders. He's imaginative, creative, clever. He is a boy I hope you are incredibly proud of.

I've been a member of this website since I was Jake's age, on this account and others. This website was much better off for having him, and it's a shame to see someone so talented and intelligent have to leave. You should be proud of having raised him, and I hope that you come to realize that the people on this website are not perverts, but people interested in intelligent discussion on a number of levels.

jake's mom: jake leaving is a loss to our community on a number of levels. there's a lot of crap on this site, but it is outshined by great artists like jake. not to mention that he is a fine person, and we need more of those as well.

i think that jake is mature enough that any gross or perverted human influences that he were to come in contact with on this website wouldnt affect him.
we are all nice, open minded people that would never try to impose our horrible human fallacies on your still fairly impressionable son. obviously the internet will always be home to horrible people, but there are great people too.
