I know I am late here but what I wanted to tell you is that I've heard a rumor saying it took only ONE year to create Sonic Forces (hence why the game is to some extent glitchy with an average level design) while it took three years to create another hedgehog engine. The hedgehog engine in Generations, Unleashed and Lost World is quite different from Forces.

Yes three year for the new engine but the game itself (plot, cast choices...) take less than two years from what I heard.
After if they have really spent three years on a game who in the end it'so ... disappointing... I don't know what kind of problems they might have during the development since they don't develop other games during this period.

Sometimes I feel like the creators aren't being honest with what they are doing. It was clearly stated that it took four years to create Sonic Forces but I suspected it wouldn't be true since the level designs and the controls would've been great if that was the case but it isn't. They also faked the fact that there was something along the lines of "heroes cannot win" so I suspected that Sonic Forces taking four years of development cannot simply be true.

It's not their only lie for this game. They had announced the teams who had worked on Generation and Colors, had worked on Forces too (so it was a game with a big team of developer) but in the end it's false. And don't forget about Shadow, Chaos, Zavok and Metal Sonic announced as important vilains (what a joke) or Infinite annouced like a character Sonic and co meet before (not sure if it was just a rumor or truly annouced for this one).

IKR? The only new thing brought in that game that they were being honest was the OC creator but that's it.

Indeed, the OC is the only new and even the only interesting thing who can give a reason to play Forces.
Classic Sonic is unecessary because he has a bad gameplay, Sonic and OC also have 2D levels and... except make a like with Mania and babysitting Tails (poor little fox ruined for no reason) he has no importance in this game.
Sonic... I would say the focus on this hedgehog and the Boost Formula begins to become boring and it's time for SEGA to remember they have other characters who are more interesting and deserve more attention.
Shadow... It's good to see him as a playable character, but his DLC is potentially useless and his gameplay makes him look like a Sonic's clone (they already have similar gameplay in previous game like heroes for example but this time it's just... lazy)
Plot... Honestly he had a good base with the idea that Sonic loses at the beginning, the resistance and Eggman who conquers 99% of the world but you soon realize that they have absolutely not been able to exploit all these elements:
-Sonic is totally unaffected by his defeat and being jailed for 6 months
-Resistance's member are almost useless (except Silver who is the only one that saw him do something before the return of Sonic) to the point that they could have been replaced by OCs
-Eggman... Who fears or even respect him ?
I know that since Colors, Sonic games are no longer considered to have good writers but they really miss all the opportunities to make a game ... even correct
