Well firstly I gotta say thank you for the complement and I hope you continue with your own traditional work. As for the transfering...

I scan images, I never photograph. Photos usually miss details and its hard to photograph the image perfectly straight on so its always tilted even by a few pixels. It's really no secret to touch up drawings. You just have to fumble around with brightness and contrast till it works. [I won't deny that using layers and adjustments also help] Sorry I can't give you a more precise technique. I've worked with 4 different scanners and the clean up method is always different depending on the scanner and settings. However I will try to make a tutorial on how to do some basic adjustments soon.
