But you'll be the first to know; I was really glad I could have you and so sorry I didn't get to spend more time helping you out. Things got a little crazy toward the end and I have to admit I felt a little frazzled. But I really liked your work and think that you have amazing potential.

well i really encourage you to hold another class! There were so many people! I suggest you narrow the subject down though...anime and manga is a HUGE topic and you couldn't possibly cover it in 6 hours...

you're welcome! One thing I was thinking about earlier today is it would be great to see you have your characters in less generic poses (standing, holding staff, head tilted, etc) but actually doing things you might see people doing in real life (but can still be cute) one of the books I suggested......Vol. 3 Bringing Daily Actions to Life would be good for this, especially since it shows a lot of stuff that cute young girls would do.

And I try not to sugar coat stuff.....that doesn't help anyone. :3

Oh ok i'll draw different poses ^_^ well next time i would deffinately want you to do another copic demo I just colored a piece and there are some things i think you couldn've given me guidence on, but nooo, i was too impatient XD

just start light and use the colors you've been using for the skin, only adding tinges of pink. too much makes it look fake. don't forget to leave a highlight if you want them to be shiny, or small vertical marks (small and only a few!) if not.

a folder
3pk of micron 01,03,05 multiliners (you can get these at the store)
a .5 (preferred) or .7 mechanical pencil
a pink pearl eraser
clear ruler (at least 6" long)

paper will be supplied. also, if you have examples of your work and screenshots/books of your favorite anime/manga, you can bring these as well. and don't forget a lunch!

Hi! Thanks so much for asking! Here's what I had on the online flyer.....
Do you love the shows and graphic novels but don’t know how to get started drawing them yourself? If so, this class is for you. Learn the basics of how to draw the face, figure, and costumes so you can draw characters from any show or book, even your own! By the end of the class you will have learned solid foundational techniques, giving you many of the tools you need to begin exploring your own style. In addition to several demonstrations of professional materials such as Copic inking tools, markers, screen tones, and computer software, students will be furnished with a full list of quality references for further study. A self-taught anime artist and teacher, Bethany will help students take the first step into the wonderful world of the Japanese comic style.

So it will be a thorough introduction of the basics - things like drawing the head and standing figure at front, profile, and 3/4 views (different angles) and hopefully some poses. Lots of fun stuff, like basics of hair, eyes, and clothing, which can be tricky. Depending on who is interested we might take some time to discuss how to draw characters from established series if you are way into fanart, as well as lots of fun other stuff. Plus, I will make myself available to you in the future through this website and email, so if you have questions or want to get critiques on your stuff, you can post it here and I can help you out. The class is only $25, which considering that I teach privately for $15 an hour and the class is like, 7 hours long, is going to be awesome. Any other questions I can answer for you? me too. im actually 57. I have a doctorate in art history, and in traveling to japan on a research trip i became very interested in japanese animation style and have since taken it by storm.
