Hello Ida - Well, your English is great, much better
than my Swedish. I was trying to find out more about
my Swedish grandparents - about two years ago - and you
know, I really would have to know Swedish (language)
to be able to navigate the ancestry websites. My mother's
mom was Anna Sophia Ohlund, from Smoland and her father
was Charles Bondeson, both born around 1879.
I don't want to contradict your beliefs on the subject art. You are trying for a traditional and perhaps
formal approach to figures. And that's fine! I worked
in advertising and graphic design for a number of years,
and, for me (and my associates) did everything under the
sun to break rules, be outrageous, zig while the other
guys are zagging. Sometimes we would succeed, and most
of the time, the client wouldn't buy it. So, we did
the correct thing, so the client would prosper. So now,
I'm outta there. Now, I really have to color outside
the lines. It's not for everyone, I know.
Well, I'm anxious to see more of your work...so keep at
it. Sincerely and non-offensively: Dick Green USA

I think I was going to write "tell me if your'e ever in Stockholm and I'll let you know where to go to get the most out of it!"
I suppose you got my other reply, I tried to send it from my Iphone, perhaps it was no good!

Anyway, hope you're well, I'll get back to the hockey game we've got going on here!

Hi - Alex is studying Psychology with - I think - a minor in Philosophy. He is much
more left brained than I and can handle all
the math and details one finds in Psych. I
majored in Music Theory and Art History, but
quite a while ago. He would like to study
abroad and one of his roommates is going to
spend a year studying engineering in Sweden,
probably in Stockholm. Alex's mom is a big
traveler and would like him to go somewhere
in the world, like she did, when she was his
age. I would like to visit (Sweden) as I know
many, many of my ancestors are from there.
And I love ABBA, even tho I'm not sure they're
fond of Sweden for all the taxes etc etc.
They wrote great songs. I'm so sorry for our
diminishing country which needs to be more
like Sweden, more socialist health care etc etc. to help the struggling middle class and
the poor, of course. But that's another
story..for next time.
Nice to get your responses too. Thanks:
Dick Green USA

We have lots of great stuff coming out of Sweden, allthough I find ABBA a bit old. Sure, they made revolutionary hits and changed the world of commersial music. Which, also, can be discussed if it's good or bad
Music Theory, you say? I have a (you could say) high-school graduation in song and jazz piano, in what we call "gymnasium" - I guess that's our "high school". Notes aren't really my thing anymore since I play by ear.
Are you a musician?

Hi Ida (where does Faroli come from? Is it Swedish?) First, thanks for your comment
on the Artist in Limbo. Music was my first passion. My mom played the piano, and when I
was just a toddler, I'd love to lay by the piano and put my ear against the wood of the
piano. I know I was moved by this. I could play songs by ear at a young age, and I
think by age five, I was drivng my parents crazy with my improvizations at the piano.
So they bought me a ukelele for Xmas. And I fell in love again. Bought my first guitar
at 13 and the rest is history. Played in jazz combos in high school...and played in
bands until I was in my thirties. By this time, I also had developed a fondness for
photography and graphic design and was working as an art director in advertising.
Yes, I majored in Music Theory in College, the University of Minnesota. And to this day,
I still play maddly at my late mom's piano - still driving everyone crazy. Who cares?
And I hate notes too - too limiting. TTYL
Have a great day!: Dick G from EPMN USA

That's so random, I bought my first ukelele yesterday mine's red with black strings, I found it to be the most hardcore to play What a Wonderful World on!
This is amazing, what a story! My music is fiervcely limited since my confidence is nonexisting so I've never played with anyone else, I stick to my solo piano but I'm not happy.
Faroli, well, it's a silly story. It's not swedish, when I was about 3 yrs old I slept in my moms room since i was afraid of the dark (I still am btw) and one night I sat in my bed, eyes wide open yet you could see in my eyes there were "nobody home", chanting "Faroli, Faroli" and my mum aksed be what that was and I said "my boat". So she (like the hippie that she is) thought that it might be my boat from a previous life and since then it's just been a cute pseudonym I guess. It will probably follow me the rest of my life.
Anyway, it sounds really great, your lifestory, I wish I had one just like it.
But perhaps it's not too late to create one.

What is your favourite song? What tune are you most often prone to play on the piano when you sit down?
Mine's Comptine D'un Autre Ete L'Apres Midi from Le Fabuleaux Destin D'Amelie Poulain, if you've seen it.

It's really cool to have an Iphone, every step I take I increase my coolness as I finger at my Iphone in public, earning virtual coolness points is what every Iphone owner strive to accomplish.
What does your son study in Stockholm? And at what uni?
It's lovely here in summer, you should really take some time off and come visit then, when the sun is shining and the typical harbor-feeling hits the habitants of the city - we're awfully pleasant to deal with during the hot months of the year!
It is really nice to have someone here to talk to thank you right back for responding!

Wow, thanks so much for the kind words, Ida! It made my day. There are so many strong artists out there, I don't think I'm a "king" by any means! I hope I can be a "squire" though. Best to you--Tom B.
