Hello. I am a fan of your's on facebook and finally now decided to watch you since I miraculously realized you post WIP progress pictures on here more so lol
I have a question being that I adore your work on armor.
I am hoping to make Sakuyamon from Digimon (season 3) ASAP. She's been an expectation of mine to do in 2013 sometime just unsure as to when (which depends on money in the long run).
I was wondering what you would recommend to use to make the armor. This will be my first time doing any type of armor and have had multiple ideas.
FireLilyCosplay has 2 nice tutorials for armor- paper mache method or the craft foam + vinyl.
I had seen you worked with sintra and wonderflex.
What would you recommend to a first time armor making cosplayer with- at the moment- limited funds?

Hello!

At a quick glimpse, I'd say sintra would probably work pretty well for your armor pieces, except those shoulders. I'd lean towards Papermache for those, or Wonderflex. You'd probably need at least 2 sheets of the posterboard sized wonderflex though to do it (since you layer wonderflex for stability).

My sintra tutorials should go over most of what you'd need to know. I'll be posting those up here in the next week or so. Sintra is relativly cheap, you can even get it free from sign shops if you ask for scraps. I just make sure they trim it for me so shipping isn't crazy expensive.

another question (hope I'm not a bother)- do you have any materials advice for her staff?
My dad and I worked on a sword for Stocking from Panty & Stocking and used PVC for the handle & 2 layers of fiberglass for the blade and shield. I was thinking PVC would be a good base material for the main length of the staff but the adornments at the top (circle, bangles, and fox head) have me a bit stumped.

I look forward to see the tutorials! I had saw you mentioned something on facebook and I got excited hahaha

Yes, pvc base for sure. For the rings.... I don't know, I'll need to think about it a little bit ^_^ the only real issue would be the tips, which normally you'd want to lathe. But you can do it with cast resin too, and then sand them down. I think the only thing you'd need to figure out is the ring. You're on the right track though.
