"I am so depressed and alone" etc is a little emo and makes me sad : (

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 06:15:45 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, i did get emo. But it isn't that fake, poser, dye-my-hair and whine to my parents and world about how awful it is etc, cut flesh, and listen to dreary music. My emo is REAL emo and I handle it like a MAN 90% of the time....by crying inside. To myself. And getting around it somehow.

What I really need is :

Fame
Fortune
Endless toil which makes both
and sex.

And since I have none of it, it sucks. Ah well. Only another 30 or 40 years to go, I guess.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StrangeOnePirate In reply to HandBack [2007-04-15 18:07:21 +0000 UTC]

That's a terrible outlook >:

hahah don't you have endless toil though?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 18:25:34 +0000 UTC]

That is a terrible outlook, I know. But it's a reality unfortunately.

Endless toil is my life, I guess. At least for my 40's it shall be. I look forward to it and think, "Why am i going to do tons of senseless work?"

Because. BECAUSE Steve.

Look, I have to memorize dates and formulas and useless crap and deal with people I dislike eeeeeevery day and all kinds of crap and life isn't 100% amazing but it's fun and worht living and blaaaah blaaah blaaah etcetera.

no more will my grey sea go turn a deeper blue
I could not forseeee thid thign hap-pen-ing to yoou...

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 18:44:43 +0000 UTC]

Oh, YOU.

School is an accepted norm though. You see, sitting in hermitage doing a comic book at age 40 isn't. So it's now a struggle of me versus myself versus the world versus society versus economic constraints. It's this long insane battle gearing up!! The longer it goes on, the more weary I become. But, who will triumph? Society? Money? Self? World? It's action on all sides, I tellz yaz!!

Right now I am kind of looking at my life and possibilities and summing it all up. Wondering if I should mindlessly commit to just DOING comic work no matter what happens, no matter what it sells, and just keep pushing myself into the market in some form and hoping for success in 5, 10, 20 years. Living on scraps and just continuing this life style ad infinitum.

It's a pretty heady kind of thing to think about. If you had the chance to do comics your whole life, but it meant being recluse without anyone around you, having no money for just about anything but basic living, would you do it? Would the choice make you feel good?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

StrangeOnePirate In reply to HandBack [2007-04-15 18:57:31 +0000 UTC]

No money, well if I could live and eat and stuff, while doing comics... as long as I had intenets, would be freaking awesome. But I couldn't be alone.

I could go without new videogames and cable but not without randomly calling people on the phone and stuff.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 19:00:56 +0000 UTC]

Oh I see. Huh.... You probably REALLY want my life, then.

That's what I have. It's a sad reality in some ways. Guess many would envy it, but maybe because they never had it. When you get what you want, most times it isn't quite as amazing as you imagined. 'Course my life might change around in the next few years as I self publish and either decide to continue with this or change life completely.... I just don;t relish the idea of going back to some office, some work place, and making $8/hr doing something from the ground up and being a tool for some crap company, crap job, crap people. It wasn't bad at age 20, but at age 40 it seems so sad.

StrangeOnePirate In reply to HandBack [2007-04-15 19:03:40 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha. With more animu and social interaction. Also not in YANKEE COUNTRY.

Well you have freedom this way. Which is cool.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 19:08:03 +0000 UTC]

Not in Yankee Country? Where specifically is that? This area wasn't around in the time of the war.

Freedom is good in one sense. Freedom is an ability to become unfocused and disoriented.

I'd rather be unfocused than cramped and bored.

Oh, that was NO JOKE. You are true rebel flag wearing, daisy duking, car loving maniac! And eats boi-p!!

This cold climate stuff isn't too bad for keeping me indoors and working though. I was pretty productive this winter due to cold and snow.

Hey, don't diss bouled peanuts! In NC we kept trying to get them (signs everywhere) but ultimately forgot.

I hate cold. Snow can be cool because we never got it. A couple weeks ago it got reaaally cold for April.

It's brilliant up here right now... gaw, i wish I had the money for wood and paint so I could build a giant Purple Martin birdhouse up here. It's 63ΒΊ today and never freezing at night anymore.

Personally I love a warm house. If I can have a warm house and not spend long times in cold outdoors I am ok. Your balmy GA weather would be awesome if I was able to prance about in nothing but a speedo and a gold chain necklace, enjoying the heat. But, come on, lets be realistic.

StrangeOnePirate In reply to HandBack [2007-04-15 19:44:23 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha. Hey, get a place in the boonies with a fence, you could do that all day long.

[link] Haha, evidently colder here.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to StrangeOnePirate [2007-04-15 19:55:45 +0000 UTC]

WOW! You are cold! I opened all the house windows and am breezing out the crud air in here from the winter. Got corn dust all over everything now.

Sure, it would be FUN to prance about naked all day long, but what price nudity? The gains are infitessimal. Warm house in cold land is my style for now.

OHXORZ NOXORZ!?!?

What does that mean? yep im following my dad for some dumb reason. but yeah im thinking about busting my butt for the next 2 years to go to the kubert school. i want to bring back the natural good art to comic books maybe some day.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to Nightwing91 [2007-04-01 01:44:36 +0000 UTC]

haha Oh man. Ask your dad about Ben Ruiz, and 'good'. Make your dad BE Ben Ruiz and beat the good out of you.

Ohxorz-Noxorz was about the fretting that you are going down that same oddly scented path as your dad and I.

If you do decide to do it, take a few books and copy them as much as possible, learn them as much as possible : NOW.

Find LOOMIS' 'Figure Drawing for All It's Worth', MARVEL WAY (as usual), Bridgeman Life drawing, Hogarth Dynamic Figure drawing (and anatomy, and heads and hands), get the inking book by Klaus Jansen (that one is THE inking book). With those basics in construction, composition, anatomy, and ideas of inking you can begin to conquer. I got to school at age 20 and basically couldn;t draw very well (but, who could?) If I had studied the proper materials a few years prior I coulda chopped off 3 or 4 years gearing up in career and been further on then I am now.

Nightwing91 In reply to HandBack [2007-04-05 13:23:04 +0000 UTC]

It seems like you have done pretty good for yourself.
and uh... where can i find books like those?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

HandBack In reply to Nightwing91 [2007-04-05 13:37:08 +0000 UTC]

All those books are on Amazon.com, except the Loomis book, which might be there sold by private sellers. All the brilliant Loomis stuff is out of print, and in fact stifled from reprinting and internet reproduction for some reason. saveloomis.org had PDFs of many of his books on the internet and then got yanked down. What a pain. If you buy the old copies it is $100-$200 a book, but you are getting the top line of art-illustration-painting-drawing books ever made.

Wait?? WHAT?>!?

What was that? I am confused. He doesn't seem mature for his age, typing like that. I've typed to 13 year olds who have it together and seem like adults, or close to.

Good morning.

My cat woke me up early. I might now believe he KNOWS how to tell time, now. The clock in my bedroom is automatically setting on the atomic clock, and has been an hour slow since daylight savings time. Somehow it reset itself last night. The cat usually wakes, or tries waking me, when the clock says 6am. usually I see it and think 'Oh, 7am...ok I will get up.' Today he fooled me because it is really 6am. Not sure if he goes off the clock, but that was an odd deviation in his pattern.

I've been on Gaia. Haha extreme opposites in this world Steve.

Bootsie chooses random hours of the night to stand outside of my door and meow.

I thought you hated Gaia.

That place always sounds torturously immature... not to say my MO online is mature in any way.

So you dont leave the door open for the cat? I made a cat doorway in mine so he can get in and out, because he used to wail constantly out there and I hated it. Couldn't sleep at all with his torment.
