Gah, your usual art is spectacular!! You speak as though it is common and it is from that! I am not saying to be stagnant, but at the same time, perfecting is always incrimental. And if by different you go all my little pony on me I will weep.

I wasn't planning on doing my little pony art but now I'm starting to warm to it.. lol only joking. If ever a situation occurs where that's all I submit then you have my permission to shoot me before things get out of hand.

No it's just I feel like I'm stuck in an artistic rut and need to do something different otherwise I'll feel like I've accomplished very little. That's just the kind of crazy guy I am. I do massive amounts of brilliant artwork then I bitch and get depressed about how little I've done..

I wont reveal what I plan on setting out to do because then you'll know how hard I've failed (if and when I do) so for now I'm just gonna keep quiet about it and hope you notice the difference in my next few deviations (probably not the next one as I still have to complete a few regular ones before I start experimenting)

Please don't make me cry. I will be sure to come box your ears in or slap some sense into you should you choose to walk that dark path my friend.

To get out of my ruts, I go with a different medium, watercolor is my choice at the moment, to help me approach working a little differently. Also, I have NO clue what I am doing with watercolor and it is all one big experiment with pencils and paint. I think I might add some ink at the end to give it more definition. Personally I would rather do fewer pieces that I concentrated on fully, than to spread too thin and create massive amounts and not put my heart into it. At least you aren't posting WIPs all the time which is what I've seen some frustrated artists do lately.

I am excited to see what you are working on! Maybe I'll actually finish my watercolor pieces and can post a few. They are all personal pieces but they are taking so much time to create. I love the look, but I don't think I have the patience for that medium.

Oh yeah. I went out with my family for dinner at a restaurant and then went to cinemas to see a film. I also got quite a few presents. Lots of books, games and I even ordered an AC3 jumper!

That's amazing! It's strange because I was looking for some Assassin's Creed related inspiration a week ago
(I'm planning on doing a Rebecca Crane portrait) and a few of your deviations showed up. And now looking through them today I saw them for a second time and remembered seeing them previously.

Your artwork has improved. I'm liking a lot of your commissions. I'm actually trying to do something other than photo-realistic painting (getting bored of it and feel like I need to learn other styles) so I may call you for some advice pretty soon

Okay, I'm not sure how much I'm helping here but here goes. What I'd do at this point is create a new layer. Don't make it have any layer style i.e multiply,overlay,soft light etc. Just leave it as a normal layer. Now zoom right in and start with a feature. (I usually start with the eyes.) If you have a reference image of yourself nearby then that's a good thing to refer to. What you want to be doing is select a colour similar to your skin tone (duh!) but what I'd advise is to change your colour sliders to HSB. What that does is select the colour you picked and below in the S (saturation) and B (Brightness) sliders you have a very large tonal range to work with. This is helpful if you need to quickly switch to a darker tone. Set the Shape Dynamics and Other Dynamics (known as Transfer in CS5 and above) to pen pressure and brush to a hard brush (100% hardness) This will give your painting a more sharper look rather than a softer one.
I don't know how much that helped. Or if I made a very simple process sound more confusing than needed
But here is a tutorial I posted a while ago. [link] Don't know if you've read it before. It may provide more detail about digital painting from the foundation to final painting! But with skin tones it's best to zoom right in. And don't judge it till you've done the whole face. It may look unsightly in the beginning but with some patience you'll get it to the right level.

I was actually wondering whether I had actually said anything worthy of help. Sometimes I just waffle on when I'm asked something and because of that I forget what the original question was! Haha!

Skyrim is a great subject to draw as well. I was planning on doing a dragon but I guess I just forgot or left it halfway.

Thanks for the appreciation. I don't have any more tutorials right now. I'm currently working on a painting, but there is nothing new to it that I haven't already explained or used as a technique that isn't covered in the Iron Man tut.

That tutorial can be adapted to any digital painting to be honest. I did plan on doing some illustrations (more to do with cell shading) and perhaps try my hand at 3D rendering. But until then I don't know if I'm writing any NEW tutorials. I may post some work-in-progress' and I might just post another tutorial based on another painting of mine. Perhaps you (and many others) might see the difference between that tutorial and Iron man tut. more than I can since working on something for a long time can make it look just the same for me
