It's almost complete, just a bit rough around the corners. But I can make it look just like the real thing with a bit more effort and polishing, and paint! I won't be able to discuss the complete functioning of the model over here in this comment, so I'll just cover the few main functions and say that the gun works exactly like the real thing, and can be completely field stripped like the real thing (except for the plunger tube and ejector which are super glued in place). Barrel can move back and forth when slide is moved back and forth respectively. Hammer has two cock positions (first cock is lock and second cock/full cock is ready to fire). Thumb safety can engage the trigger bow; when pushed in the upwards position, the cylindrical bump on the inner side of the thumb safety moves in between the hammer and the sear, acting as a safety. Thumb safety is locked in the down position if hammer is un-cocked, and the grip safety can also engage the trigger bow. It does eject cartridges pretty well (notice the grasp on the cartridge via extractor in one of the pictures), but does have a slight problem with feeding (but I'll iron it out). Side grips are made out of layers of yellow cardboard glued together and sanded to get a natural looking wood-ish pattern.

Very sophisticated build! It's always good to see people going above & beyond and going for that degree of accuracy.

Hi, Hoborginc do you think there is any way to make a scar cartridge H the heavy model of this weapon that is compatible with the lightweight model you have?
Magazine of Scar H Heavy

Hoborginc In reply to raptorsniper [2019-05-30 23:53:50 +0000 UTC]
Sorry for the late reply. I've been off the grid for a bit.
It would have to be a new model, as the magwell and receiver would be longer. The barrel would probably be thicker, too.
I've considered remaking the SCAR as a SCAR-H, but, of course, with my current rate of output, it's not really something to hold one's breath for.
However, if I understand right, you're looking for a close-enough solution that just looks a little more like the SCAR-H, right? Would some modified receiver and magazine pages be enough? What color are you thinking about?

black color
I thought about adding the detail of the magazine SCAR H to a magazine of 20 rounds of an M16 but I have no idea how to start
I have already done 3 of your models and I hope to do the AK and Scar soon
your work is impressive
Is there a date for the m16?

Hoborginc In reply to raptorsniper [2019-06-11 00:04:35 +0000 UTC]
Well, there's a 20rd magazine packaged with the M4 (V3A31), but it's not really compatible with the V4-style magwell on the SCAR.
I'd have to make a new magazine, unless you want the SVG files to experiment with. (They're editable in inkscape or any other vector editor).
Not sure about the final date for the M16 release, but I've released the basic parts for now. Only the special parts are left.

Hey, I check in every once in a while for progress. So far this project is looking amazing! The magazine, the cartridges, the receiver, even somethings as simple as the handguard look great!. on that topic, any chance that an upper and a hanguard could be made to resemble a MK12?. I love your projects and one of the things i'd love to see from you is.. let me stop myself to say that in no way do i mean harm by my statements, nor do i mean to sound entitled) something new, You have multiple assault rifles and carbines, as well as semiautomatic pistols. I would even pay you to cover more ground. Now i know obviously that making these templates isn't easy. I am extremely patient even with my ADD. Sorry if this was bothersome, Thank you for reading, and thank you for all of your fantastic work and determination to give us the best papercraft models that exist.

Yes, I definitely plan to make a proper upper and handguard for the Mk12.
The reason for my slow output is just that I only manage to work on this stuff on the weekends, and even then not always. I really wish I could do more but circumstances don't really suit that right now. I know people are anxious for more, and I appreciate that, so I regret that I can't work on this more often.
In the meantime, if you're interested, here are some pretty-much-done parts for the M16A1:
Barrel V4 20 Pencil (May 2019)
Upper V4 M16A1
Mag V4A1 30
Stock M16A1 (V4)
The only things remaining for a finished build are the handguard and front sight, which are still in progress.

I can understand the slow output i really can. it's been an issue for me where one of my last cardboard firearms was made in August! I'm not in a situation with even less free time with work, summer school, family. Currently we've had alot of bad luck. first our Truck was wrecked while swerving away from a deer, and now, the Durango was rolled thanks to hydroplaning, and i was in that one. so i've been around helping with what i can. I try to find free time but nothing adds up. i printed your WWII M1911 but haven't picked it up yet. I made scale drawings to trace and cut for a Cardboard SCAR-SC I want to be working on. but it's all about time... I still again want to thank you for your hard work, and by no means do I intend to rush you or stress you out!

Yes, the one for the PM M4 Carbine (AR V3A31) has a rail on top. The carry handle is an A3 carry handle that attaches over the rail.

Hoborginc In reply to burgercookie [2019-05-31 00:40:30 +0000 UTC]
The reason I took it down is because the two USGI mags on there were superseded by newer versions I included in the V3A31 rebuild (all in the downloads on the M4 Carbine page)
As for the PMAGs, I wasn't too happy with the way they turned out (or the way they fit the current magwell). However, it looks like there is some curiosity about them, so here's the link to the PMAGs: Mag Polymer V3 30

new weapon? new accessories?
please something

Currently I'm working on the M16A1. May have to do some more test builds here, but the idea is to completely redo the receiver, magazine, etc. New stock and handguard are in the works as well. I'd also like to make the M203 and Colt scope for it, so they're definitely part of this project.
As far as other components, my next project is the Mk 12, so that will involve, at the minimum, new handguard, barrel, and optic.
No .50 cal or revolver on the horizon yet, however.

Hello bro, i´m building your m416 and i´m insterested in how do you do the pieces pieces or the plans for build a weapon.
And what tool do you use to fold the pieces better?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Hoborginc In reply to Danilostar007 [2019-03-29 01:05:37 +0000 UTC]
As far as construction goes, the first thing I'd recommend is using the blunt side of a scissor point to score all the fold lines on a page before cutting the pieces out. Use a ruler to guide it. This helps greatly in giving the pieces a natural place to fold, because if you try to do it otherwise, the fold line may be sloppy or slightly offset. When making a curved face, rub it just a little on the corner of the tabletop to give it a smooth curve. Finally, when making dark pieces, use a black sharpy to color the edges of the paper so they blend in better (or a red sharpy for wood-colored pieces).
As far as design goes, I start with a hand-drawn concept exploring how the parts are intended to fit together. Next step is to plan out the proportions, which I do in Inkscape, using photos as a reference when available. From there, it's a fairly straightforward (but tedious process) of taking each part and creating unfolded versions of it, also in Inkscape. I try to break separate shapes into simple ones, but there will always be imprecision with such a low-tech method, so the most important step is the repeated cycle of test builds and corrections.

Hey man, i build your V3 ar-15 like 8 years ago and it came out great. I wanted to to make another one of your great designs but I wanted to ask, what kind of glue do you recommend? Its hard for me to find something that dries fast and holds together. I used to use rubber cement but over the years the model has fallen apart.

Hoborginc In reply to LxGNED [2019-03-17 21:20:16 +0000 UTC]
I'm not very good with different glue types, so I'm pretty much in the same position. I've just been using regular Elmer's glue, the ccheapest kind, so far.

For now, I'm working on some rifle-length handguards, starting with the M16A1 triangular handguard. The problem is it's a pretty strange shape, so it's turning out to be more complicated than I initially thought.

Yes, changing the texture is pretty straightforward, but may take some time.
Here's the most updated package for the 1911: the WWI version. This one is dark gray.
One of the folders is labeled "SVG" and comes with the vector files used to make the PDFs and PNGs.
You can open them with Inskcape or another vector editor.
The following instructions are for Inkscape:
Select the surfaces you want to adjust, then, from the toolbar at the top, select "Object," then "Fill and Stroke." This brings up the Fill and Stroke toolbox, which has three tabs. The first tab, "Fill" has red-green-blue sliders (although you can choose hue-saturation-lightness or other types of sliders) to adjust the fill color.
My typical way of adding highlights and shadows is overlaying smaller, white or black shapes with very low opacity.
To save as a PNG, go to "File" and "Export PNG image." This brings up the Export toolbox. Select "Page" as the export area, and enter the filename you're creating (or overwriting).
To save as a PDF, just "Save as" a PDF.
