It's doing pretty well. I dove into the revision process early (most writers do that after finishing the novel), inspired by some books I picked up. That started late last year, and since then I've filled a notebook on character profiles, themes, and possible outcomes, really trying to define where I want the story to go. I realize now it's going to need more length than I'd originally thought, because - novice that I was, and still am - I hadn't planned the story with a definite beginning, middle, and end!

I'm getting closer to knowing how I want it to end. I'm still working on "intense profiling" of my characters, which I should have done years ago. I told Robert (remember *robertsloan2 ?) I wanted to attempt NaNoWriMo now that I've graduated, but that depends on whether I can secure a job soon or not. Hopefully sooner rather than later.

There's something kind of magical about "first projects" of this magnitude. You cut your teeth on them and learn everything you know about the craft all in real-time.

I can say that the learning process on this story has been invaluable. Stories written afterward will be quite a bit easier, but I want to write something that's quality, something that others can relate to. I wanted to finish Brainsick as soon as I could; I thought during high school that I could get it done in a couple years. Ha!

It has been! I had a relaxing break home with my family and friends, saw friends again the day I flew back to Oregon, and had a good turnout on what could have been an expensive car incident (it suddenly shut off while driving to school with a friend on Monday - loose battery cables was all it was). :3

Getting used to my schedule: night class on Monday (6:00-9:45 PM) followed by THREE classes on Tuesday (8:00 AM to 9:45 PM in total). I hibernate on Wednesdays. XD

Inorite?! Oh my goodness, that... that's got to be THE most unintentionally hilarious line I've ever heard.

Gandalf in Fellowship of the Ring comes close though, but it's not his fault. xD When they're trying to get into the magical door to the Mines of Moria, and the riddle is "speak, 'friend,' and enter," he says in this terribly dramatic voice, "MELLLL-LOONNN!" which is Elvish for Friend...

And my friend who I'm seeing it with nudges me and goes in the same tone, "Pass the MELL-LON!"

WHEEE. >D Oh, there's this one part in Return of the King which will FOREVER be hilarious to me, which is SO VERY UNFITTING because it's right when Denethor reaches the climax of his CRAZY, sets Faramir on fire, then sees he's alive, then catches HIMSELF on fire, and goes tearing outside and plunges off the cliff of Minas Tirith while the huge battle rages around him, and you see how insignificant he really is. (Never happened in the books, but DAMN if it's not some cool creative license!)

But this terribly dramatic scene... is forever made lulzy for me... by the fact that upon my first viewing of this scene, as he falls off the cliff to his doom, I hear a very soft, very high-pitched...

"WHEEEEEeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee...!"

This sound was in fact made very quietly by another friend (gawd I have irreverent friends xD) who I was watching it.

But I THOUGHT IT WAS REAL, and PART OF THE MOVIE and he was ACTUALLY GOING 'WHEEEEE' AS HE FELL. I only found out that it wasn't later. But it TOTALLY SHOULD BE.
