I have a hard time with the scanning and cleaning up my sketch part. do you draw your stuff on paper first or do you start digitally?

i usually sketch digitally
my scanner isn't quite big enough for my sketchbook so it's a pain in the butt to edit stuff

you must have a tablet to sketch digitally. im relatively good with a mouse but not that good.
