No. When Shauna and Sun came to Alola, the female Alolan player Selene is Sun's bro. She stayed behind while Sun and Shauna moved away. When Gladion embarked on his Odyssey through Kanto and Johto, he met up with and became smitten with Moon in Kanto and expressed interest in marrying Selene once his career in Alola was done. So after a few years, Gladion went to Kanto, married Selene, and moved to Spikemuth where they gave birth to Marnie and Piers. That's why Piers and Marnie have both got faces that closely resemble Gladion: Sword and Shield take place 20 years after the Ultra Sun/ Ultra Moon arc.

Honestly, that Mario pairing got pretty boring for me. Despite everything they've been through, neither one is making an effort to further develop their relationship. It's gone on for so long, that I no longer care.
Meanwhile, say what you will about Bowser, but at least he's pursuing a meaningful relationship.
