Not really. I can get bits and pieces(From Bollywood movies) But I wouldn't be able to carry a conversation. Literally, me attempting to speak Hindi is putting hai at the end of every sentenceΒ .Β

I notice that Hindi, like German, prefer to stack all the verbs at the end of the sentence
In Sanskrit you can have almost every word order, cause the relations between the words entirely ae included in the endings of the nouns and verbs ..

Hmm. Oriya(an indian language I speak)also stacks the verbs at the end. Never really noticed these things before.

The modern Indo-Aryan languages in India I guess are closely related, at least in structure ..
May I ask, are you born in India?

Ooh, I could almost have guessed it Maybe it comes from the word "desh(a)" (land, landscape)?

Litiuna In reply to FractalMonster [2016-05-01 21:47:06 +0000 UTC]
Wow! I searched it up and you're right! Dang.Β
Lol knowing the meaning of the word root makes Desi seems like such a unifying word. Hah Indians are everything but. I mean we even don't have a language that the majority of people speak.

I'm always
.. and the whole of my Panini-journal has this rot "dish" as an example
Nehru tried to make Hindi as a national language, but that was not accepted in the south (I've been told). But even if Sanskrit has very few speakers, it's accepted as a litugic, scientific language in the whole of India
BTW, how did you find my journal about Panini?

FractalMonster In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-02 00:18:17 +0000 UTC]
Now I am not I tried to learn a little bit Hindi before suddenly an occasion to go to India showed up. It was the NovemberΒ 1983 I visited the Northern India (very nice). Sanskrit I've studied a little bit on the university, but in Sweden we only learn to read and translate classical stuff. That's a little bit sad, cause it sounds very beautiful when listening to recitation of classical texts ..

FractalMonster In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-02 10:28:30 +0000 UTC]
Stuff from Mahabharata, dramas and poems from for example Kalidasa.
That was what was included in the courses. My main interest, the native way of describing grammar, was entirely outside the courses ..

Ooooh Mahabharata. I used to love that as a child Even watched the tv show for it. Have you heard of the Ramayana?

FractalMonster In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-02 23:45:17 +0000 UTC]
Mahabharata, the biggest epos in the world I also seen a TV series for it in Sweden Ramayana of Valmiki, yeah It's said it was Valmilki whom invented the Shloka-meter (4 padas, each of 8 syllables in a certain combination of shot and longΒ syllables)

Litiuna In reply to FractalMonster [2016-05-03 00:00:37 +0000 UTC]
epos? What's a Valmiki? Is that the author?
π: 0 β©: 1
FractalMonster In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-03 00:07:42 +0000 UTC]
Epic (sorry I used the Swedish word "epos") is a great literal "book", such as Mahabharata, Ramayana, and yeah Valmiki is the author of Ramayana

π: 0 β©: 1
FractalMonster In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-03 10:33:45 +0000 UTC]
Well, it was long ago I studied those things. The main story in Mahabharata is a very big war between to big families. Then there are stories within the stories, a fractal phenomena Such a "within story" is the tale of king Nala and who he married Damayanti. That was the first "longer story" that often is interpenetrated in Sanskrit classes. Then there are the characters in Bhagavadgita, Krishna, Arjuna, Dhritarashtra, etc ..

Was the reading hw to just write a sentence for each word or to define them?

StormStrikeElectric In reply to Litiuna [2016-05-05 01:20:56 +0000 UTC]
I believe it involved definitions? We can ask tomorrow, I also need to know. Also, do we draw a picture for each?

Okay so... To block someone you go to settings. There will be several categories - select the one under "Private" titled "General." There, if you scroll enough, there will be a big text box describing how to block someone. There, you enter the username of the blocked user (exactly the same way). Only one username per line though.
To share something, you can find an option somewhere.. Idk where though, I'm on mobile. Or copy the link of the deviation or journal, and write it in a journal or status update.
I hope this helps clarify some things. ^-^
