Welp, someone made that mod for all that Doom/Animal Crossing crossover fanart:  www.moddb.com/games/doom-ii/ad…

A little touch I absolutely love, Isabelle not only gets sad and starts drinking, if you cheat and use the resurrect command she cheers up and throws the drink away. It's adorable. Don't worry about her dying, she's invincible.

But if you go to general settings, and scroll to the bottom, you can turn off notifications for badges, that includes llamas ^^ Hope that's helpful to you!

Here's a question, what's the most creative boss fight specific mechanic you've ever seen in a game?

Mine would be the Fury in Metal Gear Solid 3. The Fury is a man with a jetpack and flamethrower, now this might not sound too crazy for a game and it isn't, the reason why is because of the water pipes throughout the area you can shoot to spray water under them and put out fires. The game doesn't bring attention to this like most other games would, but rather lets you figure it out yourself (or call for advice on the radio). Yes you can put yourself out, but given that the fires take quite a while to go out on their own you'll need to put them out yourself. The best thing about it is that it uses the same basic controls as the rest of the game and makes use of the game's stealth mechanics because the whole fight is about trying to outsmart the boss as it is outfighting the boss and the fire makes it far easier to be spotted.

ManaHasu In reply to McDoomington [2020-03-26 12:03:42 +0000 UTC]

That sounds awesome! I haven't played any of the Metal Gear games, but I do know about how some of their bosses can be weird when it comes to how to defeat them. I honestly can't think of many games I've played where the final boss had a strange but awesome way to beat it. I guess the final pacifist boss in Undertale is one of the ones that sticks with me so much since it comes very suddenly and game restarts are needed, but the mechanics are still something you're familiar with.

I'm also a big fan of the final boss in Bayonetta, it doesn't do anything too weird, but first of all, midboss fight check points are a god send and it does such an amazing job at making it feel like you're actually fighting a goddess, something big and intimidating. I love it!

(also, super sorry for the long reply time, I wanted to have time to properly respond rather than just skim and give a short answer )

McDoomington In reply to ManaHasu [2020-03-26 16:05:39 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I thought Undertale in general was an easy answer (although to be honest, a better one).
Personally I recommend Metal Gear Solids 1 and 3, those two are the best ones. 2, 4, Peace Walker and 5 all have what I call "franchise bloat". MGS1 because it has the best story, MGS3 because it has the best gameplay of all the old school MGS games. MGS4 doesn't really work if you haven't played MGS2 (a lot of plot points are ones left over from MGS2 that were never meant to be answered) and even then has a lot of problems. Peace Walker (a Playstation Portable spin off included in the HD collection, which is how I got it) from what I've played is okay story and gameplay wise, but it's story kinda depends on MGS3 to an extent (that said kidnapping people by balloon is pretty fun).

ALL the games in Metal Gear that can have cutscenes have an overabundance of them. For good and bad (it's a bit annoying in the other games but MGS3 manages to make the over-exposition work due to being a bond parody, so it's completely in character for the villain to explain in unnecessary detail). You can also put C4 (TNT in 3) on enemies in all the games.

MGS1 is pretty detailed for a Playstation game, it's not going to have things like the physics, breakable objects and shootable pipes in 2 and 3. You can use the cardboard box as to hide yourself amongst cargo and sneak into places in 1, 2 and 3. It also has the best story of all the games coming off the heels of Metal Gears 1 and 2 (I haven't played them but I've done my research for the purpose of recommendation).

MGS2 is decent, but it leans a bit too heavily towards cutscenes, and while Kojima certainly did his research on meme theory if I wanted a lecture on a subject I'd probably attend a fucking lecture on the subject. Gameplay-wise a lot of the improvements in 3 would have been very useful here, and it's combat feels too dependent on the first person aiming. Bosses also don't make any use of stealth unlike in 3 and there's three boss fight themes, the first of which is used only once and the second feels a bit too goofy and used far too often. This game allows you to shoot pipes in the prologue (which takes place on a ship) to cause steam to shoot out (and hurting enemies touched by it), but I never really found it useful. Some of the detail that exists in 3 is in 2, but this was MGS's first game on the Playstation 2.

MGS3 is the most light hearted game in the series I've played and the most fun cast. It also has the best boss fights in the series as there's a good variety. Ocelot and The Pain are all about combat, The Fear hides from you, The End is a battle of stealth (here's a secret though, if you save and wait a week, or just set the clock forward a week, he'll die of old age, you can also kill him before his boss fight, I mention this because his fight can be quite slow paced), The Fury's fight is a tense ambush fight, Colonel Volgin is back to being purely combat (but this time hand-to-hand combat) and The Boss tops it off with a climatic final battle combining both stealth and combat.

MGS4 is okay, but it's story exists to tie up loose ends that weren't meant to be tied up. Bosses in this game are pretty disappointing.
And finally 5 is good but not as good as the pervious entries, it's like Far Cry 3, it's core gameplay is great but it's pretty repetitive. You can also kidnap people in 5 and it's even more fun to watch them fly into the sky terrified. You can also get creative and plan C4 on them then balloon them to creative and improvised anti-attack chopper bomb.

You got any favourite stories that are just utterly stupid? Like both bad in concept and execution?

Mine's Resident Evil 6, it's the epitome of Resident Evil's increasing focus on action, there's some gameplay problems that really can't be solved by any amount of optimisation like buttons having too many functions, too many quick time events and the game in general being bad at teaching the player how to play. But the story is really something special, both in terms of uniqueness and retardation. It's completely serious, the scale is absurd, the campaigns (there's four) are hilariously divided in their focus, resulting in something trying to entertain everybody and entertaining nobody (and even then Leon's campaign, which is the horror one, is still more focused on action than horror), and the game has absolute fucktons of content for the Mercenaries mode (bonus horde mode with no story) including a crossover with Left 4 Dead.

Oh absolutely! I have quite the love for terrible stories and bad things. I mean, I don't mean this in a mean way, but I'm a big 3D sonic game fan and their wild stories lol

I actually skipped RE6, I played 5 and felt like it strayed too far and I didn't bother with the next one. I do love it when stories like that take themselves super seriously though, it adds to the hilarity! Also, I'm so glad that quicktime events are a dying breed and that RE seems to be going back to the horror it used to be

McDoomington In reply to ManaHasu [2020-03-19 03:44:21 +0000 UTC]

I think the 3D Sonic games hit the story version of the polygon ceiling, they can do more with the technology so they do regardless of if they should. That and plain old sequelitis.

But yeah, I recommend getting RE6 cheap if you can (it helps that the overblown budget resulted in Resident Evil returning to horror). Also, watch SIKSHADOW's music videos. The music's fairly decent but the real star of the show is seeing SIKSHADOW's edits to the game for his videos (usually texture edits referencing silly dialogue, both in the game and from sentence mixing).  www.youtube.com/user/SIKSHADOW…
