You're welcome.

Not bad, wondering how a couple of eBay items I bid on have done. (I'm off to check after this.) How about you?

Hi Barb! Great to bump into you here! I was checking out iron-gibbet's Requiem Mask and he mentioned you. Needless to say, I was pleasantly surprised.

Wow. Your collection is amazing! My jaw dropped to the floor and now I can't find it.

I especially love your mini Erik in his mini lair with all the little Christine portraits adorning his Wall of Crazy.

This is probably a dumb question, but is your collection insured? They look like museum pieces.

Mominator In reply to EvilClinky [2010-08-06 06:36:35 +0000 UTC]

Ah HA! Another site where I can nag you to finish your story. ;D

Need a hand finding your jaw?

LOL! I just took a look at your PotO limericks.

Here's a couple of "Real Ghostbusters" (the cartoon based on the movies) limericks for you. (Written about 15 - 20 years ago):

There's a group in New York setting precedents,
ridding folk of unwanted ghost residents.
From spooks you'll be free
for a nominal fee
of only five thousand dead presidents.

That Egon is such a cute guy
the girls of New York would just die
for one little peek
at his slender physique.
Too bad he can't figure out why.

I've never given a thought to insuring any of my fannish stuff, it's never really seemed important enough to - they're mostly just toys, after all - but you're right, I WOULD be sorry to lose any of it.

I've been collecting miniatures for more than 30 years now. Mini Erik & Genevieve and their accouterments are only a small part of that collection (the rest is boxed up right now), and I've only had them (M.E. & stuff) for two or three years.

None of items are of a good enough quality for a museum - the furniture is mostly pressed wood - but it IS a step up from typical miniatures. I appreciate the compliment, though.

I still have to make "cavern" walls to cover the bare wood (I'm thinking crumpled up newspaper or papier machΓ©, spray painted to look like rock) and find a drape for the mirror. Maybe another mirror or two and then mini Erik's mini lair will be done.

Except, with miniatures, you're NEVER done finding accessories to add. (Well, I'M never done, anyway. )

Haha! Great Ghostbusters limericks! Especially Egon's. Ah, memories. I used to watch that cartoon when I was a kid. My favorite character was Slimer, even though he looks like a giant floating ball of phlegm, lol. Hmm, why is it I always seem to gravitate toward the freaks and ugly characters? Like Erik. I'm beginning to see a pattern here...

Speaking of limericks, I found this really cool (and kinda dirty ) one. It was written by someone called DeadFish. Maybe you've seen it before:

There once was a Scotsman named Warren
Who wore a kilt and a sporran
It was shocking, they said
When he stood on his head
And the women all saw something foreign.

Wait, what? Your Phantom collection is "just toys"? "JUST TOYS"?!? Blasphemy! If I had a collection like that, I'd light candles and incense and kneel before it every night.

Ooh, I think the spray-painted papier machΓ© cavern walls is an excellent idea! I can just picture it already. It'll be fun to make, too. I'm so excited to see the finished product!

Hey, thanks for the llama! What is that anyway? I mean, what does it mean, having a llama badge? I'm not on here very often so I'm not very familiar with DA terms like that.

Mominator In reply to EvilClinky [2010-08-13 08:01:51 +0000 UTC]

ROTF! What a funny limerick!

Years ago my husband and I bought "Lecherous Limericks" by (of all people!) Isaac Asimov. At gatherings (or conventions or something) he would ask people in the audience, or friends, for a subject and would make up a limierick on the spot. Talk about talent!

Anyway, he included one in his book that he did not author, but liked immensely:

A newlywed couple named Kelly
spent their honeymoon belly to belly
because in their haste
they used library paste
instead of petroleum jelly.

Thank you. Egon's limerick has always been my favorite.

Those two, and a couple more, were published in a Ghostbusters fan magazine years ago. I spent some time working on meter and rhyming, then the editor/publisher "edited" them and ruined EVERYTHING. I don't remember all the changes she made (too traumatized), but she added "Spengler" to Egon's name. Totally threw off the meter. (sigh)

I've written some "Forever Knight" limericks, too:
("Forever Knight" - about an 800-year-old repentant vampire who was a homicide cop in Toronto.)

There once was a crusader, Nick,
to whom LaCroix gave the dark trick.
On blood he would feed,
it's a vampire's need,
but oh, how his conscience would prick.

Nick's partner, a guy named Don Schanke,
one night sought a li'l hanky panky.
He went to that haven
for vampires, the Raven.
His conduct sure made Janette cranky.

There once was a general, Lucius
who led a life rather lascivious.
"Do you want to livia?"
asked his daughter, Divia,
upon the meltdown of Vesuvius.

I suppose they're not strictly limericks, since they aren't really funny, but I like 'em.

Remember what I said about never really finishing with the little additions to a minature tableau? Since writing last I added a wardrobe to the seamstress' portion of the shelf, and a coffin (shades of Leroux!) to Erik's lair.

Not quite sure where the coffin will go - probably behind the piano and organ where it won't be seen (but I will know it's there. )

Apparently "badges" are a big thing on some websites - social sites like Facebook and such, I think - and my guess is DA decided to jump on the bandwagon. I'm not exactly certain what the function is - some sort of popularity contest probably. The llama icons change when you've been given certain numbers of llama badges:

1-9 Regular llama
10-49 Super llama
50-99 Albino llama
100-?? Super Albino llama

There are several others: ninja llama, king llama, gentleman llama, and others I can't recall. The top one (so far) requires you to receive 20,000 llama badges! (I think most of those who have "earned" that one have cheated by sending out mass requests for llamas, either by hand or by some 'bot program.

As I said, a popularity contest.

You can also "buy" other badges to give to people. I think every ten (real) dollars gets you 80 points, which you can use to purchase other badges. Since I'm a cheapskate, no one will get one from me unless DA stops charging for them.

Hehehe, I just looove dirty limericks! Must get my hand on that Asimov book. Library paste! Ewww! There's also a book called 'The Pearl'. It's a compilation of really filthy stories, poems and limericks published and serialized back in--shocker of shockers--Victorian England. I'd post a sample here, but I might get banned or something, lol.

I'm not familiar with Forever Knight, but a vampire as a homicide cop sounds like an intriguing idea, especially Schanke and his hanky-panky, lol! That's a good one! I'm not into the whole vampire craze myself, but I like True Blood.

Ooh, new additions to mini Erik's lair! Will check it out ASAP! If space is an issue, maybe you could just stand the coffin up and lean it against the wall or something. Just a suggestion, of course. You know, so you don't have to hide it behind the piano or organ and the rest of us can see it.

Ah, I see now. Thanks for the explanation of the llama badge. Some people actually pay for these things?? To give away??? Guess you're not the only cheapskate around here. Count me in.

If you're interested in "Forever Knight" check out Hulu. Last time I looked, they had every episode EXCEPT my favorite. (Figures. My whole life is like that. )

Anyway, Nicolas de Brabant was a crusader who became a vampire in 1228. As Nick Knight, the homicide detective, for each killer he catches, he believes he's paying back society for all the lives he took as a vampire. (He stopped feeding on humans over a hundred years earlier.)

He's also searching for a way to become human again.

And yes, his partner, Donald G. Schanke, IS a bit of a sleaze.

There's also the human medical examiner who's helping Nick in his quest for humanity; his "sister" vampire and former lover; his maker/sire who does NOT want Nick to leave the fold; and various other recurring characters.

Rather different in feel than "True Blood." It IS twenty years older, and more limited in what they could depict. But I think you'd like it if you give it a try.

EvilClinky In reply to Mominator [2010-08-25 09:48:00 +0000 UTC]

But but but...how does he live if he doesn't feed on humans? It's not like he can just walk into a bar and order a bottle of Tru Blood.

Hulu doesn't play streaming videos outside the U.S. I'll check YouTube instead. You can find anything on YouTube.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Mominator In reply to EvilClinky [2010-08-25 17:43:39 +0000 UTC]

Nick drinks cow's blood (I always thought of this as vampire vegetarianism. ) His vampire sister/former love interest owns a bar where wine is mixed with blood - human, of course - for the "special" customers.

There ARE some eps on YouTube, though last time I looked there weren't a lot. I do believe the pilot is posted there.

Interestingly enough, "Forever Knight" is NOT the original version of the show. The original pilot ("Nick Knight") aired in 1989 (FK came out in '92), starred Bruce Springfield, and was set in Los Angeles. The plot is the same, some of the dialogue is exactly the same, some of the characters are different; and though one of the actors plays the same character in both versions, ALL the other roles are played by different actors (the medical examiner even changes genders! Male in the original, female in FK. Gotta have that forbidden love to pique the viewer's interest, you know. )

If you can find any episodes to watch, let me know what you think of the show.

This doll obsession passion of mine is all the fault of the wonderful "Forever Knight" fan author Susan Garrett. In the dealer's room at MediaWest*Con, she would always have her "Nick" and Janette" dolls on display, in wonderful, custom made historical costumes.

So, as all unimaginative fans do, I copied her.

When the ALW PotO movie came out and smacked me right between my fannish eyes, I tried, I REALLY tried, NOT to get sucked into collecting PotO dolls. REALLY.

You can see how successful I was.

You're welcome!

Frankly, I don't quite know what's going on with the llamas. I HAVE seen people with OTHER llamas. I think what happens is when you reach a certain number of llamas, your llama changes. 100 llamas seems to be a super albino llama, or something like that. It's a white llama with a red cape. I've also seen a ninja llama and one or two others. (One person had been given over two thousand llamas.)

I've been given llamas from people I've never heard of before - and wasn't smart enough the first couple to return the favor. Ah well, live and learn.

Kind of a popularity contest I suppose.

I think they might have more in mind for the future. Each person has spaces for a bunch of badges, but it doesn't matter which version llama they currently have, only one of the spaces is filled. I had figured each different llama would have its own slot, but it doesn't seem to be working that way, which is what lead me to the conclusion that there will be more in the future.

But what do I know?

(like we did on a phantomgerry forum I'm on, when they had karma points)...

Well, whatever, they are cute.

I just checked the list of who had sent me llamas. The first person on the list has received more than fifteen thousand and sent out over EIGHTY THOUSAND llamas! I WAS going to belatedly send them one, but they've obviously figured out some automated method of giving them out and frankly, I don't believe that deserves to be rewarded. It's cheating as far as I'm concerned.

Gee, aren't I the grump.

LOL! Glad you like 'em! (I do, too. ;D)

I think you can find all but one of the episodes on Hulu. I looked once for Keyklee. Wouldn't you know it, though, Hulu had every episode EXCEPT my all-time favorite ("Only the Lonely.")

Yeah, I started watching FK back when it was first on (1992. Hard to believe that was EIGHTEEN freaking years ago!), have all three seasons on DVD; watched (and mourned the early demise of) "Moonlight" (and have IT on DVD as well), as well as "Buffy" and "Angel" and the remake of "Dark Shadows" - not to mention the ORIGINAL "Dark Shadows." (I was one of those kids who would hurry home to watch it after school.)

Yeah, angsty "good guy" vampires have always done something for me.

My FK dolls were not an original idea - FK fan author Susan Garrett used to attend MediaWest*Con and would bring her Nick and Janette dolls every year. She'd dress them in different outfits - some historical, some modern - and that was when the bug bit.

I spent YEARS putting mine together. Finding just the right dolls, outfits, and accessories. They still aren't quite perfect, but they're good enough for me. I found a "Soldiers of the World" action figure who was perfect for LaCroix. I'd been dreading trying to make a LaCroix from a Ken doll (FAR too happy of an expression), but this one was perfect. As a soldier, he wasn't smiling; he had a longer face, and his molded hair (hidden by a hat until removed from the box) was a crewcut - PERFECT! (I did have to paint it white, though.)

And man, have I done the kit bashing! For example:

The pic of Nick with the gun in his hand:

the duster was from a Neo (Matrix) action figure
the (working!) handcuffs from a policeman action figure
the suit from a Dragon (<-brand name) action figure
the gun - probably from Cotswold Collectibles
Nick's head was from a "Big Brother Ken" doll
Nick's body was from a "Frank Sinatra" doll (Articulated at knees and elbows)
/I/ customized his "police" I.D. by printing out (in VERY TINY print) Nick's info, then pasting it over a photo I.D. (conveniently included the Dr. Ken set mentioned below.)

Natalie handing Nick a protein shake pic:

Nat's (first season) hat was part of a handmade painter's outfit sold on eBay
the scrubs were from a Doctor Ken clothing set
the lab coat was from a "Doctor Ken and Little Patient Tommy" doll set
the socks, sneakers and protein shake bottle were from a jogging(?) outfit
Nat's head - I can't remember which doll she came from
Nat's body was from a "Horse Riding" Barbie (Articulated at knees and elbows.)

Nick as a crusader:

chain mail custom made for me (well, for Ken/Nick. ;D)
the surplice/tunic thingie came from a "Monty Python and the Holy Grail" doll
the brown undertunic (whatever) was designed and sewn by ME.
the chain mail tights also came from the Monty Python set
the (real metal!) sword and (real metal!) sheath were from a Historical Reproduction action figure.
the shield ALSO came from that Monty Python doll
head - another Big Brother Ken head
body - another Frank Sinatra body
the horse is a WWII Dragon (brand) horse. (Couldn't pass him up, as his coloring - save for the two white socks on the front legs - is PERFECT for Nick's horse in
"Queen of Harps."

I also have LaCroix, Janette, Schanke, Tracey, Fleur and Sylvaine (the ballet dancer whose death made Nick swear off human blood completely) dolls. Oh, and Nat's cat Sydney, too.

Obsessed? Who, me?

Thanks.

My favorite acquisitions for the FK dolls are the chain mail, the working handcuffs, and a six-shooter pistol (like Schanke's in the show) with a chamber/barrel - whatever you call the part that you put the bullets in and can spin it - that actually rotates out so you can insert these teeny, TINY little brass "bullets."

Maybe someday I'll post more pics.
