Thanks much! I will certainly get you a pic of the finished product and once you see me oafish friend wearing it, you'll understand why he took to your image, lol.

Actually, yes, the folks at Custom Ink asked for a larger file as they are a bit worried some of the detail will get lost.Β  I you could provide that, I would be greatly appreciative.Β  Here's, my email to send it to: hrz2013@hotmail.com.Β  And just to confirm its "Half-Orc", the portrait I think originally posted on Elfwood?

Again, thanks for everything.

Thanks! Β I guess I should add that The Beast doesn't belong to me. Β He's actually a Marvel Comics character created by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. Β You probably already know that, but just in case I didn't want to take credit for a character I didn't create. Β

While I know of the x-men beast, your drawings were so fresh and hot, I thought you had your own character with the same name.Β

Stump is really cute too. Β You sure know how to draw stocky guys and make them so sexy!

NMRosario In reply to Soopahsoup [2012-12-21 20:32:38 +0000 UTC]

I was under the impression that the O5 was here to stay. At least that's what Bendis has been saying from the very start. Which I think is great, because if the original team goes back to the past and the book starts to focus on the modern characters again, then I'm out. I don't want this to just be a story-arc, I want it to be a permanent change.

I am definitely interested to see what old Beast is mutating into next. I'm hoping that Marvel takes this opportunity to put him back to his original blue & furry form (which he's had since 1972 - with a short transition back to his human form in the late-80s) and eliminate all traces of "lion-Beast."

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Soopahsoup In reply to NMRosario [2012-12-21 23:43:10 +0000 UTC]

'lion-beast' isn't terrible, the design is just a pain to draw and many artist can't pull it off, I prefer lion beast over the blue gorilla form thing any day, his younger more human state being my favorite, but design isn't everything, Hank will always be a good character regardless of appearance.

Really though? I wasn't aware of that, don't keep up with too much Marvel things, i'm moreso a DC guy. But that's amazing news!
I'm curious how much they're going to amp up the O5, hopefully not too much, maybe a bit to make it possible to compete with newer mutants, but i'd like them not to stray too far from their base levels

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NMRosario In reply to Soopahsoup [2012-12-22 14:39:03 +0000 UTC]

I'm actually kind of a recent convert to ape-Beast. I didn't really start to appreciate that version of his character until about 2009. But I tend to prefer the way he was depicted back in the 70s and early-80s. After Jim Lee's reboot of the X-Men in 1991, Beast's look started to get just a little too over the top for me.

The situation is just the opposite for lion-Beast as I've absolutely hated all of the earliest renditions of the character. It's only recently that I've been able to tolerate his look because the artists have been toning him down quite a bit and he's actually more of a hybrid between his ape and lion forms. As a result my favorite lion-Beast artists tend to be the most recent ones: Chris Bachalo, Nick Bradshaw and Stuart Immonen.

However, we can both agree that the original human Beast is the coolest version. But it will still be interesting to see what they decide to do with old Beast next... as long as they keep human Beast around, of course.

I'm also hoping they don't amp up the O5's powers too much, since I've always liked how they were one of the more underpowered teams who solved problems by working together. It's the fact that they are a family and not a rotating cast of characters that makes the O5 my favorite superhero team. Hopefully, Bendis realizes that the strength of the team is how they always stick together.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NMRosario In reply to Kaneandjake [2012-07-31 08:49:00 +0000 UTC]

I was in the Army from 1991-2002. I think my time in the military actually helped my drawing abilities grow a lot more than they would have otherwise. The biggest thing was just traveling around the world and meeting people and getting exposed to cultures that I never would have seen otherwise. I believe that broadening of your horizons will ultimately help your creativity in the long run. Also I learned that I can draw on anything. A lot of artists get so caught up with using the "right" materials or the "right" paper and I think that hinders their creativity. When I was out in the field or deployed to countries like Bosnia, I learned that all I needed to draw was a pencil and any random sheet of paper that happened to be laying around. Heck, one time I used a knife to etch a drawing into the side of a styrofoam cup, because there was absolutely nothing else around.

However, I will say that your experiences will greatly depend on what job field you've chosen and which branch of the military you are going into. I fixed radios, so I wasn't in any combat arms units at all. I might have been temporarily attached to combat units, but most of my time in the Army was spent in military intelligence, engineer, and signal corps units.

I think drawing all the time was actually what kept me sane during my 10+ years in the US Army. It was a great stress reliever and you'll also find that it's a good way to make friends and a name for yourself with your unit's commanders very quickly. Because there is always somebody wanting a tattoo designed, a portrait of a loved one, or an officer somewhere who will want you to design a t-shirt or paint a mural in his/her office, stuff like that.

Anyways, good luck and stay safe!

Nathan, you're Beast work is absurdly fun. Is there ever a chance we will see you do a furious Logan/Wolvz?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

NMRosario In reply to WadeFurlong [2012-07-30 04:19:51 +0000 UTC]

I drew Wolverine quite a back after I graduated high school and was in Initial-Entry Training for the Army. However, I don't think I've done a full Wolverine drawing since about 1992, right after I got stationed in Germany (which was 20 years ago! Holy crap, I feel old now).

I have considered revisiting the character recently, but with so many people drawing him and so many different versions out there, I'm just not sure if I have anything to add to the character. Plus, the Wolverine of the current Marvel Universe is nothing like the Wolverine I grew up with... at least in terms of his personality. All of his rough edges, which were a big part of the appeal for his character IMO, have been smoothed out and he's become a respectable member of the superhero community, rather than the undesirable low-life that all the other superheroes look down their noses upon (figuratively and literally).

That "I've got friends in low places," degenerate personality was what set Wolverine apart and made him such an appealing hero in the 1980s, but then his character got tainted by super-popularity in the 1990s, then mega-popularity in the 2000s. He's never been the same since.

WadeFurlong In reply to NMRosario [2012-07-30 10:55:02 +0000 UTC]

Crazy it's been that long. You seem to dig Hank which is cool. Logan has always been my guy since before you last drew him. I got fancy on the beast in the early 90s. You do a great Hank I must say, very natural and somewhat with primate form. Exactly why I think you could do a great Logan, but yeah... Yeah, I feelya. It wouldn't even have to be anything added to the character. I'd just like to see the beasted out WeaponX version maybe, you'd kill on that. Possibly just doing an interpretation of that ol' Logan you like, revisiting the memory of what appealed.
I must admit certain books have changed his persona and demeanor. He's different depending upon who the writer and artist are. Some books like Uncanny X-Force he does have that sly killer personality, as well as in some of the one shots. Just depends, but they have dumbed him down a bit, or cleaned him up, however you want to put it.
Anyway, consider it maybe, t'would be very cool to see. Whatever the case, what you're doing inspires my good man. Keep doing what only YOU can do. CheerZ~

Hi Nathan,
I mailed you on Elfwood but perhaps I didn't get through...
For my art weblog I'm preparing a post on Fantasy Dwarfs. I'd love to include four drawings that are not featured in your deviantART map: Hrothulf (they are on Elfwood) But I won't and can't use them without the artist's approval.

My Dwarf homage is quite ambitious, at the moment it's even expanding into a mini series. It gives an overview of dwarfs in fantasy in all shapes and forms; their clothing, armory, weaponry, but also their comic and erotic appeal.
Your Hrothulf art work would be one of the real highlights.

My weblog has no commercial intentions whatsoever, and I always make sure the name of the artist gets inserted into the JPG and a link to the artist's webpage mentioned underneath the image.
To give an impression of what I do with art, here's my blog.

Right now this is the only site where I've posted images of Stump. I originally designed him way back in 1993, but I've kept him pretty much under wraps until I started up my dA page. I plan on revealing most of Stump's origin when I get the comic done, but he's not a mutant. More along the lines of a genetically engineered super-soldier, but not exactly.
