# About me
Artist Statement
I have been working as an established freelance artist since 2010 through my business Jlee Creative finding creative solutions for my clients. I have been creating art since before I could remember, and have seldom thought of anything else than to pursue that dream.
I tend to work in various mediums from canvas to digital painting. And while I embrace more modern digital mediums, traditional means still seems to come more naturally to me. Although my style is diverse, I will often find my inspirations in themes of divinity, self-awareness, and the depths of our solar system.
I opened myself up to commissions in 2010 with close friends and family, and though those small beginnings have long passed, I have allowed myself to naturally replicate those interactions between artist and client, developing a strong, creative relationship as our project progresses to completion.
I am currently earning my BFA in animation and visual effects at the Academy of Art University and expected to graduate in Fall of 2019.

most of the work during the past 2 years is done in coal and some have a little of both in them - medium is listed under each work - all of my earlier drawings are done in graphite - they both have their advantages but i prefer working in coal more now because of the very dark tones i can get with it - not as much of a pain having to build up dark like with the graph ..*

yeah that's true. I want to try it but it's hard to sharpen them becuase the coal is always breaking. i have gerneral's pencil sharpener. is there a better one?

i know exactly what you mean - i used to use a mech. sharpener that always worked fine untill it finally broke down - all the newer ones i tried were too powerfull and snapped off the tips .. basically breaking the sharpener - very frustrating - never have been able to use a razor blade to sharpen them either, some people can! - i finally found this manual sharpener made by Dahle: [link] -i have the 155 model but im sure any of them would work fine - will fit many sizes of pencils too - and you can take it apart to clean if it does break off inside which is real nice
