In the mood for a realistic military-spy thriller? I was wondering if you'd be interested in reading my new story, Enemy of My Enemy. southernwriter2.deviantart.com⦠It's about the Syrian Civil War.

I think we're both screwed. This guy just wrote a really good entry to the short story competition. lugal.deviantart.com/art/The-G⦠What do you think?

PeaceKeeperd In reply to SouthernWriter2 [2013-12-02 03:30:36 +0000 UTC]
I have complete confidence that we can stand up to that story.Β It looks good, but, like you, the final fight was anti-climatic and that alone could take away from the experience, especially when it seemed like a fight that was sure to be VERY climatic.Β I think we both have a chance in general.Β I'm not worried and I'm completely confident in winning 1st.Β Hopefully, you will be too.Β XD

SouthernWriter2 In reply to PeaceKeeperd [2013-12-03 14:43:19 +0000 UTC]
Now that I think about it, the story really loses momentum at the end. Besides the anticlimactic final fight, the villain has no dialogue. None at all. No personality. If there had been character interaction between True and Isengrim, that would have been more interesting. Two werewolves communicating, maybe with one trying to pick a side. Instead, the conclusion was more like "Something happens. The end. That's it." Honestly, I was looking forward to a werewolf death battle.

I read it again and it really lost a lot of momentum at the end, especially at the final fight.Β The villain was nearly justΒ a name and a character with no dialogue or life.Β The story itself would've been much better if it did included the above into the story.Β

Read the latest chapter. I really liked it. It was a nice interlude between war and violence. I've gotten a few chapters of The Return up, recently. I didn't know if you'd read them or not.

SouthernWriter2 In reply to PeaceKeeperd [2013-07-27 05:17:17 +0000 UTC]
Thanks, man. This latest chapter I'm working on is one of the most difficult I've ever done because how nuanced it is. It relies so much on emotion and a relationship that it requires a delicate touch and precision. I feel like I'm stepping into a minefield writing this one, because of how easy it is to screw something like this up. Wish me luck.Β

PeaceKeeperd In reply to SouthernWriter2 [2013-07-27 05:31:24 +0000 UTC]
Good luck, man. Wish me luck as well, I have a long way to go for Lyoko Warrior and I'm figuring things out as I go. The forward chapters as well rely heavily on emotion and also relationships. I can't even afford to screw it up, like you. I just gotta be careful where I step in future chapters.
It looks easy, but, I tell ya, it's not. I have to literally make myself cry at scenes to make sure it's good enough for the story.

SouthernWriter2 In reply to PeaceKeeperd [2013-07-27 05:37:37 +0000 UTC]
Thanks man. And you're right, it's not easy at all. It's funny, scenes of combat come easy to us, but stuff involving relationship dynamics are hell to write. Good luck, dude.

I know, man. Saw it on the news. It's a tragedy that never should've happened. He will be missed. He was an American hero and still will remain an American hero. May he rest in peace.
