I use photoshop to make them move, the newer versions have an 'animation' feature that's really easy to use.

I use photoshop and read lots of tutorials @____@ and then I place the pixels and zoom out and hope it looks good! Haha

Ah well I read a lot of tutorials on the different types of lines, and isometric pixelization and whatnot! And then I just put it to practice :> Learning the basics and fooling around with the pencil tool till it looked nice!
