Lilith is Sumarian, much older than the Greek equivalent. Sumer is the oldest human city ever found and generally referenced as the beginning of history. The pronunciation "Lilith" is relatively recent though, the Sumarian demon was "Lilitu."

Oh really? What sort of pie?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-11 19:21:09 +0000 UTC]

Lactose-free pumpkin pie! I made it with coconut milk, because Katie is fixing my computer that a virus tried to eat. There was also cheesecake that my mom got me last night.

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-11 23:37:28 +0000 UTC]

Virus? That's no good. I hope Katie can patch everything up for you.
The pie and cheesecake sound awesome, though.
I still have yet to make my belated birthday cake, I'm thinking red velvet.

I was at Katie's yesterday and it was doing a lot better, but Explorer still wasn't loading. I think she managed to fix that about a half hour before I took off for my bus, and it was doing a few malware scans and then a full system scan (I think she'd already done 5 scans of various things...) and she's gonna reinstall Win7 for me, which I've been meaning to do, but it would take me so long to back-up the files and she can just stick them into some free space of her 2 terabite drive... Lots easier. I may be heading back over there tonight if I can borrow the car and picking it up, or she might bring it to me at some point, or I might bus up there her next day off... Either way, little computer is going to come back much healthier than he was when he left.

That's good to hear. My mum just had her computer overhauled, and it apparently works better than ever. I expect her to break it within 2 months, though. She can't get it through her head to read pop-ups and not just automatically click "ok"...amongst other things. Her computing habits are...well, she shouldn't have a computer.

How has Sand3 been, aside from birthday shenanigans and computer issues?

Feeling perkier and sleeping less, still trying to find a job, working on referbishing the house, and about to start finishing the room in the basement to turn it into a bedroom.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-15 20:30:54 +0000 UTC]

Perky is good. Less sleep...were you sleeping a lot previously? I've had no luck in the work department either. Everything I've applied to has shut down or been unresponsive. I would like to be able to work from home if possible, but there is very little out there which is legit that I could do. I kind of want to work in a shipping depot, as i prefer tedious work that doesn't involve the public. So, did your folks move as well, or did you move in with friends?

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-16 20:02:20 +0000 UTC]

I'm living with my sister and Mike, parents are still in LFP. Yes, I was sleeping about 14 hours before, now I think I'm actually less than 8 when I'm up to date on my meds.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-17 04:21:51 +0000 UTC]

Oh! I had no idea they were in Wallingford. Now I am less confused. ^^
Are you and Heather still together? Last I saw her was about 2 years ago at TPB with Chesna.
I', glad you're on a decent sleep pattern. I'm finally getting about 7-8 hours on average, as opposed to my usual 2-3. Sleeping enough does wonders for one's mental state. ^^ So I take it your doctors finally found some good meds for you? I remember the last batch you told me about kind of made you into a zombie thingy.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-17 20:18:26 +0000 UTC]

No, Heather and I are not together anymore, that ended amiably about a year ago. As for meds, I finally got a competent doctor, rather than my old doctors finding a new combination for me.

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-18 14:30:34 +0000 UTC]

That sucks, but I am glad you guys parted on good terms.
Competent doctors are FTW. It's about time you had one. What do they have you on now?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-18 19:05:12 +0000 UTC]

Ah, it was very mutual. She is too high-maintenance for me; I can't handle the level of drama that comes in that package and she can't handle my level of mellow. I am on a combo of Fluoxitine (being dialed back from my previous dosage) and Bupropion now. Mike pointed out a few months ago that he thinks that the underlying cause of my issues might be ADD or something of the like, which would be highly probable since it's very commonly tied to dyslexia.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-19 02:33:41 +0000 UTC]

Ah, yeah I can't handle the high maintenance thing either. Too much effort in most cases...in my experience.
Mike is a genius. That makes perfect sense. I'm just glad you have a good doctor now. The wrong meds and/or doses can fuck one over royally.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-19 19:56:34 +0000 UTC]

The big problem is that my previous doctors failed to mention that the way SSRIs work as anti-depressants is to mellow you out and calm you down. That's not so great if your main depression symptom is chronic exhaustion.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-20 00:00:30 +0000 UTC]

...how the hell could they forget to tell you the ins and outs of your meds? It's their job.

Sand3 In reply to Kalinar-rae [2010-10-20 21:06:57 +0000 UTC]

Because I was seeing a psychologist rather than a psychiatrist, and my general practitioner. Neither of them are actually trained for this and there's also some diffusion of responsibility going on.

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-20 23:33:48 +0000 UTC]

Typical. This is why I tend to never trust doctors and the like. Last time I did, it was a case of malpractice. The "muscle" I pulled in my chest was actually acute bronchitis and nearly killed me due to the fact my esophagus had been crushed flat by the swollen airways to my lungs. Fun times.

So, do you have anything spiffy planned for Halloween this year?

No... I do not... Maybe I will go to Twisted Flicks if I can find anybody to go with.

Twisted Flicks is great. ^^ I'm going up to visit my family for Halloween. Not my favourite thing to do, but it beats staying cooped up here.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Kalinar-rae In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-24 06:38:20 +0000 UTC]

Maybe. It really depends upon what time Flicks is and whether he and I can gather the funds to cover tickets. We kind of have a schedule to keep in the evening since nobody we're going to see will be home until later.

I made a bonfire in your honor. My friends and I made Meat-on-a-Stick and ate it with our bare hands. ENJOY YOUR PRESENT!?! owe;

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-10 23:52:08 +0000 UTC]

I enjoy it in a kind of freaked-out way, due to crazy people apparently having fire-themed rituals for me. I hope you didn't make a Guy of me to burn...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-11 00:11:28 +0000 UTC]

We should have. -.-
But the closest thing to that was roasting marshallows...
Unless you count the meat?
I like ANY excuse to burn things, and my friends have just gotten used to me holding celebrations for people they've never heard of. They think I have a lot of cousins or something.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-11 19:22:14 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha. I didn't get to burn things this summer, I don't think... This is sad... I didn't notice until summer was gone.

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-11 20:33:39 +0000 UTC]

Thats TERRIBLE! One of my favorite parts of summer is burning stuff! But its still fun during fall! You must BURN THINGS. Like annoying people! Annoying people with fake lisps!
I met one today, and I can see why people hate them. AUGH.

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-12 19:59:38 +0000 UTC]

... Do you mean with, like, collagen in their lips or those silly wax lips for Halloween?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-12 22:25:47 +0000 UTC]

I mean when people pretend to have a lisp because they think its "cute". When you can tell its fake because its so bad.

If a person actually HAS a lisp on the other hand, its okay. They have an excuse. I have a friend with a natural lisp, they hate it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-13 18:40:48 +0000 UTC]

OH! LISPS! I totally missed that first S. A side-effect of dyslexia, I'm afraid. Okay, that makes a lot more sense, yes. Oh God, I hate the faked lisp that's supposed to be gay or something. What, is the implication that homosexuality is linked to bad orthodonture or parents who just don't care that their kids can't talk? It drives me crazy, especially as someone who has to make a conscious effort to keep a natural slur/lisp out of my speech.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-13 18:55:01 +0000 UTC]

I used to think people were overreacting, but now, I have to say I agree. With a real lisp, I don't mind it so much, because yeah, they try to keep it out of their speech. But the fake ones, they think its supposed to be "cute".I had the misfortune of meeting a guy with a fake lisp recently, and it was absolutely the most annoying thing I had ever heard. It is not. I met the guy because he was hitting in my friend, the one who has a natural lisp. He found it annoying too.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-14 16:23:07 +0000 UTC]

It's one of those things normal people do because it's cute and it's just incredibly insulting and condescending to anyone who lives with it. Like calling people with disabilities "differently-abled," that is so ridiculously pedantic, like we're too fragile to handle the fact that, yeah, we're missing a few important functions that most of the population has.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-15 01:27:48 +0000 UTC]

I'm lucky enough not to have to deal with that sort of thing, but I can imagine that it would be rather annoying...

"Don't call her disabled! She's "differently-abled!"."

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-15 20:15:28 +0000 UTC]

God, it's like a slap in the face. I seriously just want to pound on people who use stupid 'euphemisms' like that.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Valley-of-keatons In reply to Sand3 [2010-10-15 20:24:53 +0000 UTC]

Well then I am VERY VERY glad that I don't. You might come after me with a Mag-lite! Those things are dangerous.

A certain someone I know on the other hand, really needs a smacking. She is constantly correcting me about how I shouldn't call them "disabilities".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Sand3 In reply to Valley-of-keatons [2010-10-16 20:03:45 +0000 UTC]

Tell her that the disabled people find her offensive and that Timmy from South Park is statistically the most popular cartoon character among the disabled community.
