Without Brunelleschi, Duamo di Firenze would have never been finished, nor would Cosimo de Medici have gained as much notoriety as he did in that time.

It was because Giovanni Medici(Cosimo's father) was the brilliant man who started the Medici bank, and commissioned Brunelleschi to finish the Basilica; his amazing observances, and ideas were what gave Duamo its name and reputation as the largest free standing dome in the world at that time. Thusly putting the Medici on the map. I wouldn't call them notorious, more like famous because they were well liked by all the people in Firenze. They were kind, humble people and I quite loved them, especially Lorenzo because I identify with him the most.
