I wanted to ask you something, what do you do for colouring? This would probably be easier to discuss in PMs, but I've never really been able to get the idea under my fingers... I guess it doesn't help trying to colour more detailed outfits than Soul Eater or the like, but do you have suggestions?

I color different parts of characters differently, so is there anything specific you'd like to know my method for? Or would you just like a general rundown?

The main thing is the shading that you do in most of your drawings. I've never been the greatest at shading things digitally.

(All this is in GIMP 2.8) I just lay down the flat colors, then make selections using the Free Select tool where I want the shading within those flats to go, and use the Blend/Gradient tool (FG to Transparent setting, Linear shape) to add a quick soft shading to the desired areas. Then I use the Smudge tool and a big, soft brush to smooth out any rough patches left by the selection.
I'm still looking for more advanced techniques, but this is just the simple way I do things for now.

I use Photoshop, but I think I could get a similar effect. Not sure what the Blend/Gradient tool is like in GIMP, but it'll be interesting to see what it is like with some of my things. So, it's like you create a new layer for each section and do that for a gradient or something else?

It's officially just called the Blend tool, but I usually call it the Gradient tool, because it adds a gradient you control the length of to the selected area. I don't usually create a new layer for each selection, I create layers for the skin, hair, 1st/2nd/3rd/etc. clothing color, and a layer for misc. details. My shading selections are usually done on the same layer as the corresponding flat color.
