Hello, Hanna, I was wounding if the slots for fan characters where still open for purchase? If so I'd like very much to put in a request for a few characters.

I'll be officially opening them up not to far in the future, so please hold onto those requests for just a little longer.

Thank you, Hanna. I'm going to apologize now in advance, I know you request that we only include a brief description/background of the characters, but I am in fact going to go OVERBOARD with that and there's nothing you can do to stop me. Your forgiveness if that came off as rude. You are of course free to ignore most of it and just read the vital bits for drawing them. Just wanted to let you know it is going to happen one way or another.
I will probably ask you to clarify a few things on the religions of the world of Archipelago and their parallels today, along with certain questions about the geography and organizations like the mages guild if you would be so gracious as to humour a humble reader of your art.

I was wondering have you considered setting up a Patreon? Would love to contribute what I can to keep making the comic easier on you.

I've been thinking about it too, but there's not much extra I could do to offer to Patreon sponsors. There aren't a lot of 'extras' to
offer and it takes all the time I have just to update the comic itself. It'd be something more like a tip jar.

I don't think extras are needed, though I always thought it would be awesome to see your sketchbook sometimes, nothing better than seeing doodles.
Small payments weekly is much easier than lump sums, I would pay for like a subscription fee. Waking up Monday, Wednesday, and Friday is so much better because I get to jump on a new page.

Hey!
So I know you're currently working full time job and updating Arch three times a week, but I just wanted to throw something out there.
Would you ever consider making tutorials? I really love the way you draw hair, body language, expressions, etc, and I would find it extremely helpful if you made step by step instructions of how you do it. Heck, even a video of you drawing them (like a recorded livefeed) would be really informative.
Just a thought, maybe something for later down the road. Hope you have a great rest of your week.

So what I'm meaning to say while trying not to sound dumb or stalker-ish is- your art is super awesome! ^^'

Gosh, I can't wake up fast enough every other day. First thing I do, is whip out my phone and pull up your comic. It practically makes or breaks my whole day.
On a side note, I know your journal is super outdated, but are you available for a commission?

Six and seven are currently in the works but after I got a full time job I had to put the publishing process on hold for a while. I'll be working more on publishing everything after book ten is finished.

Hello! I have a few questions.
Do you storyboard or use another method to plan out your story? Do you write it out and then draw what you've decided? Or just wing it?
I'd like to start somewhere but I'm so nervous.
Also, do you have any tips for backgrounds and animals? I can draw people just fine, but my other skills are abysmal at best. I use free lineart to create animal characters ;-;
Also, I really love this comic, it's one of my favorites and I've been following for a long time ( even though this account is quite new hahaha ).
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Ginshika [2014-12-05 15:49:56 +0000 UTC]
To answer your first question, I don't really storyboard or script my pages before I draw them. I know what I want
to happen in the story, and I've tried scripting it out before hand, but inevitably I can't really tell if I've got it right or not until I'm
actually drawing the page and see what's working and what isn't. That's just my way of doing it, it's not a superior way it's just the method
I've found to work best with my process. Lots of comic artists script/storyboard before they start drawing. I recommend you experiment a bit and find
the process that works best for you. You may not even find that out until you're actually working on a comic. I definitely recommend that you start
though. Actually making your comic will teach you so much more and so much faster than you learn in the planning stages. You'll make mistakes, but they're
mistakes that everyone makes and have to be made to learn. If you're nervous, then you care about what you're making, and if you really love what you're
working on that will show through to the readers.
As for backgrounds and animals, I'm afraid I'm going to recommend that old staple of observing and practicing. When I started drawing Archipelago
I wasn't really comfortable drawing people! I liked drawing animals better. Archipelago forced me to learn, through practice and patience and a couple of
art classes. If you're struggling with something, just keep drawing it until your brain and your hand figure out what looks right.
Thank you for reading, and good luck with your own project!

Hey there!
I'm coming up with a challenge for the holidays and I'm a little stuck on holiday traditions on the Archipelago, so I need some help.
I remember Spindle making a reference about the winter solstice back in book 8; is the Archipelago's version of Christmas?
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-30 04:41:21 +0000 UTC]
Roughly, yeah. The Archipelago has two big winter holidays, one of which is a very sober religious celebration for The Fishermen, focused on remembrance
and faith and perseverence through the winter. The winter solstice is much more of a party and presents occasion.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Reptilian-Angel In reply to TheSilverTopHat [2014-11-30 04:46:24 +0000 UTC]
So how does the Fishermen celebration work?
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-30 07:23:30 +0000 UTC]
People light candles, usually they stay at home and enjoy a quiet holiday with the family, read passages from the Fishermen's book. Different
denominations and cultures celebrate it differently but it never gets as rowdy as the winter solstice.Β
π: 0 β©: 1
Reptilian-Angel In reply to TheSilverTopHat [2014-11-30 15:45:23 +0000 UTC]
And the winter solstice? Is it just one big party or are there more parts to it?
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-30 16:25:06 +0000 UTC]
Usually there's present giving during the day then lots of drinking and dancing and partying at night (after the kids have gone to bed). The general attitude is of 'bring it on, winter!'. There are usually lots of bright hanging lights and decorations (no Christmas trees, not enough spare conifers on most islands). Various islands have different explanations for where the presents come from, including the winter solstice faerie mentioned. Usually the presents show up at the foot of children's beds, but traditionally the children can't go looking for them until after sunrise or else they might scare off whatever has come to bring the presents.Β

Hello, me again! Just wanted to ask a few questions about our favorite demon hunter and seranith butler, Willium and Tin-Can!
First, back i book 3, Willium mentioned both he and Credenza living through Snow's wraith? Does that mean he was a slave of Snow's and escaped at some point? Or he faced off against him at some point? If yes to the second does that explain the scar on his cheek?
Second, Tin-Can, (Might I add, I ABSOLUTELY loved the "Sexy Seraniths meme" you did on him, I am totally digging the human Tin-CanXTabitha couple now!) Also back in book three, I noticed when he shot his eye-beam magic at the Shadowmandyrs, he had markings over his shoulders and throat at the time? Is that kind of like Alice's magic, just swirling and binding over his body like hers did? Or was it just a spur of the moment idea because I didn't see anything like that later on in book 5 when Snow and his crew came for Tin-Can's soul.
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-22 02:39:03 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, the markings was a sort of magic/lighting affect thing I tried out but in the end the eye beams by themselves were striking enough.
Willium never personally ran into Snow but he was Credenza's age during the height of Snow's career, so he grew up hearing horror stories about
whole island villages and sub crews wiped out. He might have even lost friends or family to him.

Reptilian-Angel In reply to TheSilverTopHat [2014-11-22 04:13:06 +0000 UTC]
Aw . . . Poor Willium.
So what about the scar on his cheek? I'm now assuming it was from one of his battles with a demon?
π: 0 β©: 1
TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-22 21:32:29 +0000 UTC]
He doesn't have a scar on his cheek, he just has really sharp cheekbones.

TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-11-22 23:43:38 +0000 UTC]
I think he DOES have a scar on his right hand underneath the glove, a series of teeth marks from a fight with Nim when they were children.

Who knows with them, they used to fight all the time at that age and sometimes it got out of hand, usually from cultural misunderstandings.

Crazy theory. Snow was the one that corrupted The Great Raven. Time or Dimensional travel had to be involved somehow. It's just a theory mind you. Then again, weirder stuff has happened in the webcomic.
I can just imagine himΒ beingΒ like the serpent in Genesis. Tempting The Great Raven with delicious possibilities, appealing words, delusions of grandeur and supremacy. Dragonfly's new body simply helped sealed the deal.

Hey, I need some advice from writer to writer; I'm in a major lack of motivation slump right now, I try to work on this one chapter for weeks and it's driving me crazy because I feel like I'm purposely keeping myself from finishing it!
Am I being lazy or has my brain just run dry of motivation? Any ideas?

TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-09-22 02:07:33 +0000 UTC]
Creativity has natural highs and lows, if you're experiencing a low point that's not a failing on your part or the project you're working
on, it's just part of the life-cycle of writing. I suggest taking a break from trying to force it to work, maybe read some new stories or stories
that you really like. If you force yourself to work on it, it's only going to build up a dislike for working on the chapter. Take time away from it, maybe
rethink what you're doing with it, and come back to it again later.

I just thought of something just now; since the Archipelians rely heavily on sea-related vehicles, do they have anything they would use in emergency situations?
Such as life-boats and flare guns and such?

TheSilverTopHat In reply to Reptilian-Angel [2014-07-16 19:39:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh sure. The little submarine that Tin-Can and Prince Paollo escape in is an escape sub for such emergencies and is packed with supplies.
