Lobo-Illustrator In reply to acrux53 [2012-07-26 19:59:19 +0000 UTC]
I'm not, no. Which I guess surprises people xD
I decided to move away from home ya know, I needed the space. I think for myself when it comes to art, I gain the skills on my own as long as I keep working at it and practicing. Whether I study in London or in Derby. It all depends on me. Even if people think London art schools are better...(BS) lol
Plus once I finish my MDes in Illustration I'll move back to London so I'm in the best city to work, I'm not missing out
Man that was longer than intended, haha. I think I've had to explain myself a lot to people when they've asked me that. I'm not a great artist if I'm not happy in my own home, so studying in Derby was the best plan.
You going to uni this year?

acrux53 In reply to Lobo-Illustrator [2012-07-26 20:06:40 +0000 UTC]
i guess youre studying illustration? xD ahh yeah, i guess people need to be in their own environment to do their best :3 yeah practice makes perfect- i guess art school just gives you that reason to practice and improve, but really its their own work that makes them improve ahh, london art schools arent necessarily better- it just depends on who you are ooh, londons good for art and illustration haha its alright! xD yeah having the best environment will always help- because my bedroom is the place i draw and stuff, if i get art block or sometihng, i change it- i put new stuff on my walls, and change it xD
and im doing my foundation in september at a uni, then going to do a degree after

Lobo-Illustrator In reply to acrux53 [2012-07-26 20:20:48 +0000 UTC]
Indeed I am
Yeah, it's why I have no motivation right now because I'm home, feeling hopeless and my room is tiny that I don't feel comfortable working, especially because I work best in the dead night :3 (I mean dude I don't even have room for a desk...)
Practice is definitely key honestly. I've seen people gradually get better and better, I even saw that in myself. It's not about the school, it's what you make out of yourself in that school. Even in Derby we still get bad ass artists to talk to us
Which uni you going to? You excited?
I actually skipped foundation...to be honest my first year was basically foundation, you get to practice different materials and still get set briefs. And all the grades in your first year don't count to your degree, just as long as you pass each module.
So in a way I thought it was useless...no offence (plus I didn't wanna pay the big bucks aha). I know some people still need it because they still haven't fulfilled their potential. (Gosh that sounds snobby ) That was just personally for me.

i like illustration :3 yeah.. i always struggle at home. i mean. my DA galleries not that good.. but i justhavent uploaded my good work where ive worked hard :3 ooh i love drawing at midnight ohhh that sucks! have you got somewhere else for a studio? yeah, ive got so much better i hated portraits, now theyre all i seem to do.. trying to come out of my comfort zone a bit x3
im going to falmouth in cornwall! :3 yeah i am! bit nervous, its so different to london.. but, itll be amazing if i make some good friends and have fun ahh yeah, im doing a foundation just ti find out which field of art i want to do, say illustration or fine art, for example ahh dayummm its expensive! O.o ahaha its okay some people skip it, i just wanted to have a bit of fun and see where it takes me

Me too haha. In a sense it involves everything from animation to graphic design. I feel like it's a broader subject
Same I've obviously done more stuff at uni, but nothing I felt great about to show xD
If I was at uni, I could head out to the shed. (like a huge Shed with loads of studio space, it's used for print screening <3) But nah, here I just have my room or the kitchen table. ugh.
Yeah I know what you mean, I'm actually trying to branch off realism and juxtapose images more. I've got so many ideas but there's no urgency for me to start anything right now. It's so annoying xD
I actually thought of going there But mum wasn't happy about it being so far lol. I've heard great stuff about the place though
I have a friend from near there, and I think he said people there are pretty easy going :3
That's good, better to make the right choice in the end
I'm sure you'll love it! Freshers was mega xD Probably like the 2 best weeks of my life, so much happened. But ya know, remember that the friends you make at the start usually don't stick to the end. Might not be the same for you. But I definitely experienced that. I'm surprised you're going away for foundation, because usually you don't get loans for a foundation course.

yeah the foundation just makes you do everything- so its meant to be pretty intense for a while. xD yeah, i mean ive done some good paintings and drawings that im proud of, just, never put them on DA xP i getcha, at the start of this summer, i had so many ideas for stuff, even random things like stenciling and spraypaint that just popped into my mind. xD ah ive been trying to branch into realism, ive never really been realistic xD want to combine realism and expressive stuff xD
oh yeah, my parents initially werent happy (i dont think they still are in the way that theyll miss me, but they want me to go). ah it was really nice when i went down there! so hopefully ;D yeah the people seemed nice, ive spoken to a couple who are giong there too, who are nice.
ooh freshers, thatll be epic ;D we get a foundation fresshers for the first week, but then we get a freshers pass for the undnergrads parties too ;D yeah i know, people dont always stick together, or they change- i just hope i have a good time who ever im with! did you make solid friends in the end?
and haha im surprised too! xD my art teachers convinced me into it really.. and it is a LOT of money.. O.o but, ill survive. im sure i can like eat potnoodles forever

Ah as long as you create your own style
I'm trying to broaden myself in techniques and materials. I don't really think I have a style but people tell me different lol.
I'm sure they'll get over it :3 I get along better with my mum being far away lol.
Did you have other choices?
I'm sure you'll love it. First week is mad, everyone just wants to meet new people aha.
Yeah. I made a hell of a lot more friends than I did in college lol. The people that I stuck around with first I'm still friends with them, but definitely not close. (issues have occurred, certain things happened lol) But I've got some close friends. Would you believe I'm moving in to a house with 3 lads haha. I get on better with guys it seems. But we're all close. My flat mates in halls were awkward at the start haha. First semester we had our doors closed most of the time. It was only in January when we had a new international flat mate that things got good. (plus she was an american version of me, besties for life haha)
I'm surprised you didn't just stick around for foundation, since its free if you're under 19. Well go you as long as you love it. Tesco sells noodles for 11p haha. Student tip for you :3

yeah, i used to be uber expressive, but now my styles changing alot x( but thats apart of it i guess :3 yyeah! im trying to use stuff i dont use often, though i still hate coloured pencils.. >_<
haha im close to my family, but, im coming back home, so its okay xP yeah! i got into the university for the creative arts in epsom- they told me in my interview that i was definatey in which was weird but it was just too computery, i mean, it was nice and you could tell theyd invested alot of money into it. but it just wasnt me. the best thing about falmouth is where it is, and how lively it is. i also got a portfolio drop at oxford brookes uni, but i skipped it because my falmouth inetrview was the day before. so god knows if i would of got in for that.
i hope so! its a big change, but im sure itll be good. i mean ill be really nervous to begin with, itll be so weird. but, ill get used to it! haha, i hope i make alot more friends than i did at college! XD ah yeah, i mean, itll be nice to still be nfriends with the people i first meet, but maybe my friend groups will change or ill get closer to other people, who knows? ironically, our freshers is a mad hatters tea party and hat making workshop before the party- so it literally will be mad
ahh im sure youll have fun! youve only done your first year right? :3 haha yeah im sure we'll be awkward too xD but, its to be expected i guess oh at home, i ALWAYS leave my door open. so, it will stay open at uni too i expect. ahaha! that sounds awesome! :3 hope i meet someone like that xD
ooh my foundation is free too! its jsut living costs thats the problem hahaha, you know, ive spoken to a few people about it, and youre probably one of the only people to talk about it properly and give good tips and actually help? xD Thankyouuuuuuuu!

Haha yeah same. I'm still sticking to my main materials. But I do like to use something different once in a while or mix media.
Ahh cool My old art tutor studied there. I remember when I went for my interview to Bedfordshire, he told me I was definitely in even though he wasn't allowed to say. But I didn't really like the area and the people just didn't seem my type.
Ah well you're gonna have to apply again next year anyway You gonna stick in falmouth if you like it?
Yeah it's weird, I was nervous for a whole week! But then it feels like you've been there forever
That sounds pretty awesome. For some reason we have a fetish for fancy dress, literally every wednesday at Walkabout! I love Halloween though, everyone just gets involved xD
Yeah first year was done I was the only one that ever left my door open, so flatmates were always waltzing in aha. I can't wait for this year, because I get to have a double bed and my own house. No damn rules and stupid fire alarms blaring every week. And the lads are hilarious. Even if one of 'em is a bit of a man slut xD
Yeah at least you don't pay for the course, but I know how expensive the living costs are, especially even this year. I used to pay £81 for rent in halls and now it's gone up to £89. But for my house (which is a bigger room and double bed and just more private) it's £57. BARGAIN! Even if I do pay bills, we split it in 4 ways But if you can afford it then go for it!
Ah I'm glad I'm helping I just know I would have liked if someone told me a few things before I went.
Any time

im really tired, so i hope this isnt gibberish.. xD
yeah, i stick to what im comofrtable with, but its nice to try other stuff. i love mixed media stuff :3 oooh coool! yeah the woman that interviewed me told me too when she wasnt allowed to say xD i mean, in every room there were like loads of mac computers, and the technology was really good- but i just prefer traditional stuff really. i would hardly use them XD
yeah.. gotta apply in september xD and yeah, i think so- they let you bipass all the project bit and get an interview if you did the foundation with them. still wondering where to apply to for my other choices though >_<
yeah.. ill be really nervous, but hopefully ill settle in quickly falmouths quite a confusing place to get to know where everything is too xD ahaha fancy dress eveyr week sounds funny! i love halloween, hopefully thatll be fun ;D
good luck for the next too! im sure itl be great aha, im used to people walzing in my room - so i dont mind xD
that sounds like a good deal! youl be a lot more comofrtable in somewhere like that ;3 haha yeah i can imagine pahahah xD
ooh my halls are like so expensive.. like i heard £110 a week? i cant remember if its still that expensive though O.o i hope not. £57?! thats so good!
thankyou so so much!

At least you checked it out aha. I chose Derby mainly because they do MDes in Illustration and not that many unis do that course. So I accepted as soon as they offered, I hardly looked at the place except for when I had the interview xD. Derby is pretty tech savvy as well, full of macs and what not. But for a more traditional ambiance I just go to the shed. Messier area so it feels more creative :3
But for the last year of my MDes course I have an idea of transferring to a different uni. But I dunno, it's all up in the air at the moment lol.
Fancy dress every week is madness. I went like nearly all the time on the first semester. Second semester I completely backed out haha. Then again I hanged with different people and I didn't like the club much where they did all the fancy dress. I prefer MOSH which is more rock and etc. (more Moshing, who would have thought lol)
Thank you! I think it will be even better because we all get on so well :3 my room is downstairs and all the boys are upstairs, so it's like an invisible wall of solitude when I need it aha. Although I told matt (man slut) that he better not be banging chicks on the sofa. haha
Yeah that's the usual rate, it depends on the uni and what sort of room you get. If it's an ensuite then that's the usual price. But it's a robbery, a standard and an ensuite are like the same size rooms, but you have a small corner of a bathroom, which feels like you're pissing in your own room tbh. I hated it whenever I went to my mate's flat.
£57 is awesome! Although it's a 12 month contract, so I had to pay some rent through the summer Bye bye money.
You're welcome

yeah it was nice whats an Mdes? O.o yeah sometimes you dnot need to go though, you can just tell you wanna go there xD i accepted UCA in epsom when told me, and then when falmouth got back to me a couple days after my interview (though they said it woudl take 2 - 3 weeks O.o) i then rung up UCA and said i didnt wnana go anymoer xD my spelling is so bad, im sorry xD yeah falmouth was a mix, and i liked that. i just thought the other place was just too much though it was amazing. haha messier areas are so much better for art, yet my parents still insist i shouidl tidy up.. im sure youll figure it out and decide whatcha wanna do X)
ah it sounds it! sounds expensive too xP you must of bene so tired fancy dressing all the time were they funny fancy dresses? xD haha, i havent been clubbing yet, dont have an ID yet.. D: but im not sure if ill like it- i prefer pubs xD but hopefully i will
yeah! youll have such more fun being with people youre close to and happy with. ooh thats good, cause when you wnana be alone you can, but then you can just go upstairs and have fun xP ahaha manslut xD sounds like a good nickname ooh man that qwould be a bit awkward for you xD
yeah i get an ensuite which isn t very big ahaha yeah, it is quite expensive for what it is, but halls are good for making friends initially. ooh noo, that sucks! although, it means at least you can live there all the time, some unis make you leave dyuring holidays? :S

Lobo-Illustrator In reply to acrux53 [2012-07-29 15:08:33 +0000 UTC]
Mdes incorporates undergraduate and postgraduate together in a 4 year course. So at the end I get my Masters
haha don't worry about grammar, I'll forgive you xD I had so many offers, but waited 2 weeks to hear from Derby before I accepted anything haha. I even dropped out of the Bristol interview because I wanted Derby that bad aha.
Depends how good you wanna look tbh xD My mate used to buy proper £40 fancy dress clothing(Ridiculous). I would just usually improvise, or go as normal but watch others look like fools. I think the best one was onesie night :3 Most comfortable night ever. aha. Dude we had nights from Avatars to Pirates aha. I didn't really like the club much though because most people there were pretty slaggy. Like everything felt like a competition from the way you dress to your make up, and the guys were just up their ass. MOSH is cool because everyone is chill and we're just there for the music and to hang out :3 (Bro - fest much aha)
Before uni I never went clubbing either. And a mate of mine only liked pubs, but a week later he was going to all the night clubs, half the time drenched in bubbles and paint. He partied hard. So I'm sure you'll love it, or grow to like it :3
Yeah! Although I wouldn't have minded living in halls again, because sometimes meeting new people is cool. But I prefer the privacy of my own house, plus cheaper rent and a better room! Win! Manslut aka Matt always takes the piss out of second or third years staying in halls, because to him it means they have no friends aha. He's so deep sometimes. There won't be awkwardness because he promised he wouldn't do it! aha.
Dude you should have seen when we were looking at houses, the estate agent was showing us the rooms in the house that we're now renting. And matt was like, 'I don't give a shit about the room as long as I got a place to sleep and wank off'...I died aha. (But he was stuck with the smallest one bed room xD)
That means you'll have to clean your own bathroom, mwahaha xD Definitely, I had friends in practically each set of halls (not bad for an introvert eh xD). But a lot in mine obviously. You start to meet loads especially if you're invited to different flat parties and hanging in the common room.
Yeah, next year I might stay during the summer if I find a job. In halls they don't let you stay in the summer, because it's a term contract. Mine is a 12 months because it's a house.

ooh thats so Coool! i was thinking about doing a ,masters in the future.. like if i cant work like as an artist or something in art like that, then sometihng like art conservation or curation- that would be nice. but thats so cool! i dont think many places do that for fine art? that would be amazing to do though! XP oooh yeah, you just know when somewhere is better than another, or more suited to you :3 i missed my portoflio drop for oxford brookes for my falmouth interview.. im not sure if they give eveyrone portfolio drops though, or based it on my personal statement >_< but even so, it looked great there.
haha thats true xD woah thats expensive! must of looked good though xP i would just go as a normal person, that sounds more fun haha i have a tiger onesie, that would be fun pahahaha that sounds awesome! xD ooh that sucks that you didn tlike the people though, but you have good reason not to, i would rather be more relaxed in somewhere like mosh. haha maybe thatll be me but i cant dance either, so im not really sure hwo thatll work out might be a bit weird at first, but i might end up liking it
yeah, im in halls for my foundation obvs, then, maybe for my first year of my degree, because if i go somewhere random, then i wont know anyone again yeah that does sound like a win, being able to do what you want with no rules xD haha do you call him manslut to his face? xD haha, yeah i guess thats true, but i imagine most people move out x) but maybe they find halls more stable than finding their own place? leats you know its deffinately there if you cant find anywehere :3 haha just hope he keeps that promise!
pahahahaha that must of been so awkward for the estate agent! XD XD that sounds so hilarious :L
its better than communal bathrooms xP ah that sounds cool! trheres about 150 people on the foundation this year, which is quite alot i think- theyre nromally about 100. its pretty impossible not to meet people i think xD im sure ill be okay! itll just be weird to begin with, and ill be a bit nervouss, but itll be alright.
yeah that sounds like a good idea! itll probably be alot nicer in the summer ( hopefully.. but it is england- lets be honest.) ooh that makes sense. im allowed in my halls to stay during christmas and easter, because its a 40 week contract. :3 that sounds cool- you can just do what you want x) although, at halls, you cant decorate much can you? ._. at your own home you can as much as you like

I think Bristol would have been awesome, but Derby had MDes. And Bristol intimidated me a bit because of the way they do interviews, but I know I'm good aha But like they even gave us a project to do. So I was like fuck that haha.
He basically used his maintenance loan for alcohol and fancy dress while his mum paid for everything like food etc. I have a black cat onesie :3 I think we were trying to do a world record as well, dunno if we did though xD Dude I can't dance for shit either, I used to get really embarrassed and shy. But now I'll just pre drink (to gain some courage) and be on my way! Especially in MOSH it's dark so just go for it! aha one of my mate's (also housemate soon) just dances like a grandad it's so good.
Yeah stick to halls for your first year of your degree, it helps to know people where you live. I know a lot of people that felt left out because they lived at home, or because they lived in a house. So they only knew some people in their course and through others. But halls is the best social scene and you're close to everything. It's awesome! I call him Botty! Because he has the most unlucky last name haha. But I don't think he would mind it if I did, he'd probably relish in it xD
Having no rules is the best. In halls they use fire alarms every week in each room to test them, so you wake up scared for your life. And if someone in your section of halls fucks about, don't be surprised waking up at 1am to go outside haha. It happened so many times that our Chinese flatmate (that we didn't talk to) just stayed in her room like happy days. You also have to tell the office if you have anyone staying over etc...but no one really cares. No one does it aha. We also weren't allowed our windows open if we weren't in the room, because of PIGEONS!
The estate agent actually found the funny side of it, plus he was late to meet us. So it cleaned the slate xD communal bathrooms isn't that bad! I only shared with 4 people, plus cleaners clean everything every week
I'm sure you'll do fine, you sound like a good guy.
Well either way next summer HAS to be different. I'll try saving up money and possibly go on holiday with some friends, but who knows. I don't like relying on others. Ah yeah same but I went to Luxembourg for Christmas
Well I dunno about yours, but in mine we had like a huge corkboard on one wall. I had loads of posters and pictures and drawings. Everyone makes it their own, no ones room looks the same at all. I dunno how much I can do at mine, but I want to add loads of fairy lights! And I'll be putting lots of drawings and pictures on my walls :3

yeah if derby was the better place for you- sounds like tis awesome tbh xP hahah if you youre good then it doesnt matter does it? yeah falmouth uses a project thing to just get an interview.. it was so pressuring doing one for the foundation at the same time as alevels XD
hahaha that sounds fun xD im using my maintainence loan for maintainence XP i need an ID before i can go out clubbing and alcohol and such xD hahah that would have been the most awesomest world record! haha, im at the embarrased and shy stage btu maybe that will help! just go to a dark place, drink alcohol, and dance away xD nothing wrong with grandad dancing! thatll be me xD
yeah i think will stick to halls, but then once i know people itll be fine yeah, it must be difficult to live outside the uni >_< im sure halls will be fun hahaha botty xD pahaha, he sounds like a funny guy xD
yeah ive heard about the fire alarms.. theyre going to be annoying XD btu they sound funny but i think thatll probsbly wear off how comes you didnt talk to your flatmate? xD hahaha xD really?! eveyr time i want someone to stay over?! O.o lovely. is there like a limit to how many times? xD because of pigeons?! thats the stupidest reaosn ever! xD although, falmouth is by the sea.. so, maybe seagulls? XD
