I had been gone so long that I had missed out on all of your work! Glad to see that you're still pushing forward just like your art has. I love the abstract effects and the different capabilities you have shown us lately. Keep up the fantastic work, Gary!

sorry for late reply i dont do much on deviantart at the moment, not much seems to happen on it, thank you so much for the kind words very much appreciated, i had some luck recently when I won the award at the royal institute here in London for the celt painting, its lead to an invite to exhibit at a gallery or 2 so seems juried shows may be worthwhile...hope your art is going well, thanks for staying in touch, all the best for the future.

Sorry for my very late reply as well. Yes, Deviant Art continues to test my loyalty, haha. I'm so happy to hear you've gotten recognition for your art that you finally deserved. I hope over time more eyes get to see the great stuff you've been doing. Good luck on any knew juries and exhibits you may still be going to.Β

Thank you for such kind words, they are actually v obviously hand done up close but looking for the realistic effect (if thats the effect im after) at a distance, i like the idea of order out of chaos...quite a bit to learn yet and many thanks for looking

I like that concept and explanation of your work very much. It's a very good way to explain it. I saw you explain that, I believe, about your rhino painting. It's so wonderful and then, like you said, you see little details that seem to be extraordinarily out of place. It's like a digital photograph: from afar it is so rich of detail, and then up close, you'll see colored pixels. It's a very interesting concept. I love searching for things like that; sorta debunking what I'm looking at is real or not. It's a fun puzzle to me and you made that puzzle perfectly well. Great job!!

Thanks yet again. I think exercises in realism are good, maybe even necessary to find the skill to put what you intend in a piece (otherwise if you're smart you can explain away mediocrity) but I think theres a limit in a way. When I did the glasses I actually got a bit bored trying to replicate square after square using a grid, it became a chore even though the creative effect/element was produced before , as the reference...you need to enjoy and feel as well I think, sometimes fresh instinctive strokes add life to it,,,and as for "talent", see what you can dig up about a substance called myelin in the body....ill leave it here

I believe the same thing. Even having a background in other types of art can help you accomplish your goal. I love realism, but I understand what you're saying. I got truly bothered by the repetitive "copying," but I found myself to have fun in a way. I tried my own "style" by adding a little color here and there. It felt it was my own, in a way. You're right. You gotta sorta have the feeling of the moment and embrace it. Myelin, huh?

yes Myelin, its part of the biochemical process of reinforcement when you practice...i.e the more you practice the better you get (at anything) ...not a great believer in talent especially in non physical aspects (obviously if you are 7ft you have a good talent for basketball for instance) , i think effort (or being pushed in some cases, like Mozart) creates higher performance...its good really gives us all a shot at getting better as long as we put in the effort, so maybe character is more important than talent?Β
yes some realists are unreal hahah....try googling Ivan Fraga and look at the portrait of his girlfriend...jaw dropping stuff (took him a year!) . also I guess the buzz can come if it does actually come out convincingly.
nice chatting, all the best to you

Ah, I knew what myelin was, but never thought of its purpose, haha. Ah, yes. Muscle memory. It's my best friend. I believe the same thing, you can't just magically have "talent," it is always hard work, which I don't mind at all. I rather work for it than not have it at all. I know some people who are extremely envious when seeing someone who's "better" than themselves, and they seem to forget maybe they just happen to practice more than themselves, haha. I've seen this attitude from even beyond artists. That's why I tell myself that jealously doesn't get you anywhere. You should praise those you look up to or are astounded by and understand what they must have done to get so far. It helps me inspire and motivate myself to continue forth. I'm astonished by the story of how Mozart and Beethoven were forced into music. It's a sad, but interesting detail of history.
Ooo, interesting. Will do! Have you heard of the animated movie that took more than a man's lifetime? I believe it was called "The Thief and the Cobbler." This particular individual, from the '60s, tried to succeed in using his full potential to his art... he took, I believe, 30 years to TRY to finish it, but the company he had been working for had forced him to rush his masterpiece, during the 90's-ish, and never got to truly complete it. Its story is similiar to Disney's "Aladdin," which people feel Disney had copied off of "The Thief." Now even 50 years later, people are still trying to complete his movie. I saw some of it. It's very elegant and unique. You should have a look whenever you have time.
Same to you. Thank you for replying to my comments. Some people don't like to or want to chat, haha.

Interesting subject isnt it...can involve what strengths you are born with physical, mental, and emotional, etc...then maybe drive, ambition, pride...big subject.
yes mozart etc could be an example of what we'd call hot housing , but must have had some inner qualities that responded to teh stimulus, i guess some have that but I believe all can improve by trying.
No I havnt heard of it but will def look it up, theres a new film being made about van gogh (I think its called loving Vincent) , all done in his style by a 100 or so artists hired to paint like him (wouldnt that be something)...trailer on google looks v good
Pleasures mine...have a good weekend.
