Someone asked why my cat girl Joy lacks a tail. It's a two-part answer. To me, a tail on a biped makes zero logistic sense. Also, I just really hate having to pose the tail! X3

We shouldn't try to explain the physics of fantasy. Total waste of time and effort.

For my Star Wars Day splurge, I spent a whopping $5.00 on GOG to get the two remaining games in the X-Wing series I was lacking: X-wing vs Tie Fighter and X-Wing Alliance. Both work perfectly with a wired Xbox One or Xbox 360 controller.

Darn, I already had all those games - the originals on the box, and the GOG resurrections. Didn't care for Rebel Assault, though. They were bad then, and are still bad now.Β

Rebel Assault I and II were bad, but I appreciate what they were trying to do with the FMV genre. Certain sections of those games succeed more than others, but as a whole they're failed experiments.
What I love about the X-Wing and Tie Fighter releases GOG has, is they include all three versions of both games. Some people prefer the floppy releases to the CD-Rom re-issues, others prefer the Windows 98 versions. They're all there.

It's amusing how I was so taken away by Dark Forces I and II back in the day, but it just looks too horrible to me nowadays. I have tried playing them, but it gives me a headache, and a little motion sickness. Those ID games in 2.5D just won't cut for me anymore. They were good in their own time, but didn't age well.Β
I still had good memories from having played Jedi Academy I and II, until I played them again from GOG. I wish I haven't, because reality told me a different story. I prefer to keep the good memories, because standards have changed, and even I am not the same person anymore. They have a good mix of action, shooter and adventure, but I just don't have the patience to get stuck at places, trying to figure out what to do or where to go anymore. And that's not particular to old games, unfortunately.

I on the other hand can always go back to those 90s games. There was something about that era in gaming that stuck with me. I sat and played Doom 1 to completion, start to finish not to long ago. I guess that time in gaming had such an impact on me that I can look past the aged visuals. Its the ones that have really esoteric control schemes that I can't get back into.

Right now, with all the gaming backlog I have to catch up with, I have been playing C&C Generals: Zero Hour for days! How old is this stuff?? LOLΒ I even found out there was an awesome mod for it called "Contra 009", which gave even more hours to spend with it.

A well designed game will keep you coming back. Especially if it's moddable.

I have never played mods from other games, but I have to say, this one was very well done. This is one of these games from Westwood Studios before it was acquired by (sorry for the "E" word) EA.

EA was a good company once upon a time, but like all entities that get too big for their britches, they changed for the worse.

And as they grow larger, start buying out other studios, breaking and closing them out like they did with Westwood, things get to a point where they just don't care anymore. For example, I had a problem with my Origin account, tried to contact them, but... they have no tech support. There is no way to talk to them. They are so big they can't even talk anymore, or at least care to.

Origin is another brand name they've perverted.

Origin = EA, which cannot be a good thing. More recently, there was a problem with my Origin account and I cannot buy ANYTHING from them anymore. From them or any other stores that link to their account, like Humble Bundle. Right now HB is offering 75% on some EA games, and I can even add them to my cart, but when I press the pay button, it claims the product is "not available in my region", when the main text on the game description claims it is. I called HB, and they claim there is no reason why this happens. They say it's a problem with Origin, and they have no one to call for support. Well, EA has no tech support anyway. There is no way to talk to them. I even tried creating a new account at Origin, but it doesn't let me set a payment method, or buy anything. I have seen plenty of other people claiming the same issue at the EA forums, as if that would have any effect, but there are no replies - at least nothing that would be useful. How great is that?

I'm working through mine as well. Doesn't help that I keep getting tantalized by shiny new things. X3 I still have Fist of the North Star: Paradise Lost for the PS4 to get through from Christmas, but I keep finding deals on other stuff on PC. And they finally made a new good Terminator game! Terminator: Resistance is what the later Bethesda Terminator games were in the mid 90s, but with today's technology. I don't regret spending $40 for that at all.

I am waiting for Terminator to get discounted... It's getting rather lonely here at DA, where people simply stopped commissioning these days. No money, no games... Good we still have GOG.

Terminator: Resistance is something of a redemption arc. The developer made one of the absolute worst movie games of all time with 2014's Rambo. They learned their lesson in a big way. Everything I wanted in a Terminator game is here, and nothing I don't want. They even stick to the "Only The Terminator and T2: Judgement day happened!" continuity.

The reviews have more praise than complains, so it seem like a good pick. I will buy it when I get more commissions.

simplysherbert In reply to ken1171 [2020-05-07 00:12:26 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, they just released it as "Doom", and damned did it hit all the right notes. For contrast, 2005's Doom 3 was a good game, but it just wasn't a good Doom game.

I liked that new Doom game. It had a rather nostalgic touch to it. A corridor shooter with puzzles and platforming, pretty much like nearly all of the Star Wars shooters games did (Dark Forces and Jedi Academy). Maybe that's why I liked the newer Force Unleashed I and II games. They also had the same kind of gameplay, plus Vader was there, and you could even play him for a little while.

There are 2 new Star Wars games I haven't played yet - Battlefront II, and this new Fallen Order. This first I am not sure if it can be played solo (or if 90% of the content is multiplayer), and the latter is still too much for my wallet, even at 50% off. I need more commissions!Β
