again, you seem to know me fairly well... i do like it... i like that it asks the viewer to see them similarly... and presents them with equal interest and seriousness...

that said, i would like/love to see this artist treat this image as a visual note to do something more with the idea... if (a) that makes sense and (b) doesn't sound condescending...

i hope you don't think me odd (or rude/argumentative), but i took a moment to do a bit of research on california law... just to satisfy my curiosity... and this is what i found...

[link] page 15 and page 33... both seem suggest that lane sharing (and thus, by implication, lane splitting) is a problem... admittedly, however, it does not make them explicitly illegal...

[link] page 396 (laned roadways), page 400 (overtake and pass to left and pass on right safely) seem to suggest, that proper lane usage is required by law... allow, admittedly they do not specifically outlaw lane splitting...

finally [link] appears to give a codes for violations given when users are straddling lanes and/or passing in an unsafe manner (page b-14, violations i 21658(a) and i 21751)...

i suspect that the idea that lane splitting is allowed is one of those 'urban myths' that represent what we want to be true... like cures for hiccups or ways to fool lie detector tests...

all this reminds me of a conversation i once had with my wife's uncle... he used to ride a 'rice rocket'... and swore that the law said that he was allowed to ride between cars, provided his speed was not more than 15 mph greater than the either vehicle's...

(chuckle)... maybe i should be sending this to him and not to you...

According to a cycle rider site, it says that lane sharing is not specifically 'legal' but not 'illegal' either. I'd say that puts it in the same category as jumping off a 3 story building. . . nobody says you can't ...but well,you take you risks.
