I agree. That is my favorite album right now. The Mars Volta used to be a band called At the Drive-in. They split. The other guys formed a band called Sparta which rocks too. For some old school rockin out like that, check out Drive Like Jehu. They are amazing, but the album may be hard to find.

oh, and another thought... you don't NEED photoshop. it helps, but you should learn to make the camera do everything you want first. Think about it this way. You learn to drive in a 1986 lincoln town car. You win races in that piece of junk. What happens when you get into a Porshe? See where I am going with that?

shoot shoot shoot. digital is great because you don't have to pay for lousy shots. If you get an idea, do it. Play. grab the forks and see what you can do. Have fun.
Look at art. All types. By the masters. Go to the museum. It is so much cooler than looking at it on the net (makes a good date, too, especially if you can talk art) and don't hesitate to copy what you see. After you copy others for a while, you will develop your own style.
You interest me because you are creative. You are trying to say something with your images. That is a huge asset. Now go crazy and never give the camera back to your mother!!!!

hey i'm a portrait photographer too!! only im at some silly franchise store taking 20 dollars pics :-\ but my summer project is to get lights/rolls of backdrop stuff and secure those to the ceiling, and then start doing my own crazy stuff
