# About me
I take pictures. I'm spending a year in Australia to do this, and also to get over the extreme trauma that was graduate school.I've worked in exciting places like zoos, museums, ecology labs and college classrooms. I have also worked in very boring places, like engineering firms.
I have an unhealthy obsession with crocodilians,
Old photos in this gallery are REALLY old, and awful, but also probably a fun and exciting testament to the fact that it is possible to improve at photography with time and practice, or at least proof that I occasionally get lucky.
(If you +fave a photo, I will check out your gallery and love you forever, but I tend not to post 'thanks for the fave' messages, because I think they're a little silly. BUT I STILL LURVE YOU.)

Thank you very much for faving my picture of the American Alligator. I looked through your gallery and your work is beautiful--I think it's awesome that you liked my photo enough to add it to your collection.
I'm an undergraduate student, and I'm thinking about applying for an internship helping study the effects of mills on river systems in terms of their impact on amphibian populations, mostly salamanders. I'm leaning more towards a veterinary major than ecology or herpetology, but it's still an interesting way to spend my free time next semester. What about salamanders do you study?
Sorry to bug you--feel free to tell me to go away. Your ID just caught my eye and I was curious.

Sorry I didn't message you back sooner. My life has been crazy.
My work is developmental in nature -- I'm interested in how environment affects skull development in tiger salamanders. The species of salamander that I work with has two very distinct morphs -- one is 'normal,' but the other, produced when salamanders are stressed and crowded, has a huge head and is a vicious predator, even cannibalizing other salamanders. Understanding the difference in developmental strategies between the two could basically help us to understand what kind of flexibility exists in the salamander skull over evolutionary time.
I don't know if that made any sense...
Anyway, best of luck with your work! It sounds pretty neat.

Haha, now I'm sorry that I didn't message you back sooner. My life has been insane. I've just now gotten a chance to go through your gallery--you have some beautiful shots in there, by the way. Your emerald tree boa was a gorgeous boy. I'm sorry you lost him.
That did make sense, and it sounds fascinating. Do they breed true to their morph, or does the variation only develop as the young salamanders are growing? Or is that what you're currently researching? I know that sometimes salamanders raised in large groups won't grow to be as large as they normally might, but I wasn't aware that some of them would grow larger and react so aggressively. Do you know if that happens in species other than the one you're working with?
Again, if I start to bother you, just tell me to go away or ignore me.
