No worries, my class mate Zadiela recommended you. Your dogs animation is that same dogs bollocks, totally awesome. Been worrying my pants off lately about finishing uni and then not being able to get a job, so any advice you can give would be swell.

I studied traditional animation at NEWI in Wrexham (but I think it's changed it's name) and I did a MA in computer animation at Teesside uni. The course at NEWI was very self taught though, I owe most of what I know to books and lectures from industry proffesionals. My biggest tip is to tour as many decent animation festivals and job fairs as you can, it's how I got my job

Yeah I think me and a few class mates will be looking into some festivals, seems a good way to judge what companies are looking for. I'm guessing it's best aswell to try and learn some cg programmes? I took a few tutorials in maya but it seems to have slipped out of my head

Cool I would probably suggest getting some 3d under your belt before you leave just in case, when I left uni I really struggled to find much 2d work, in fact pretty much everyone in my class that's found work in the industry now is doing 3d.
As for 3d uni tutorials I never really got them into my head, mostly because they were far too generalised, snippets here and there about modelling, rigging, texturing, particle systems, animation and rendering, with no real focus.
My suggestion is to choose a specialisation (like animation in my case) and focus on that completely.
I pretty much just grabbed a rig and taught myself.
Check out this link to get some free downloadable rigs for Maya

the very first excercise I would do is a walk cycle, companies love to see decent walk cycles, and you'd be suprised how few people bother to do them. (A good walk cycle is actually quite hard to do.) Games tend to animate on 30 or 60fps (i think that might be the same for for high def film and tv too), I'd suggest doing it at 30 to start. Give us a shout if you decide to do it and I'll help you get set up.
As for festivals animex in middlesbrough was a really good one, I ended up talking to a pixar animator a disney concept artist and several games studio's and I think it's on again soon
Also if you tell me what area you want to get into I should be able to give you some advice on what to have on your reel.
Good luck! Sarah

You're very welcome Yannick, your artwork is amazing, and you have some fantastic tutorials, (I really need to crack how to create backgrounds for my pieces and sort out my colouring)
