Ohh you seem to like languages a lot your english is really good! Which year of high school are you in?
I studied photography last year and before that i have studied and worked with programming and media. Now im studying outdoor life and handicrafting with focus on traditional ways of doing it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-28 16:29:04 +0000 UTC]

Wow that's really something! What do you make in handicraft? What are the traditional ways?
And thank you I'm a year before graduation.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-28 16:50:39 +0000 UTC]

I guess what im most pleased with making so far is the anorak i have a photo of here on dA and a pair of skis. But ive also made other stuff like 2 tarps, a wooden mug, a compression bag, smithed some hooks, some wooden spoons and probbly more i cant remember now. Next projects are a sleeping bag, bindings to my skis and maybe later a canoe. But ive only been at this school half a year so far. In time it will probably be a lot more! I still have one and a half year left.
The main thing in my education is outdoor life, the handicraft is more to make the things we need when we go out in nature. So by traditional i mean we do longer trips, mostly on foot, canoe and skis and mostly use natural materials, make camps like they did in the past and such.
Oh and at school i live in a tipi. Its in the background on my anorak photo.
Is your school big?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-28 17:31:18 +0000 UTC]

That sound amazing! I know I wouldn't last long in foot trips or camping haha. But seriously it sounds like such an experience! Where do you go in the trips? And regardless, that's a lot of handicraft in just 6 months. But I wish you all the luck in the future
My school is kind of big I think. We are 2000 students.. In Israel, you'd think your school\city\etc is huge until you check about cities in the rest of the world and then you realize how small everything here is haha

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-28 17:50:48 +0000 UTC]

2000 is really huge for me! Mine is only 300 students, 200 living at school. But can you belive my school last year? We were.... 30 students!
I'm sure you wouldnt have any problem with hiking, its much easier than you think when you actually do it! How is nature in israel and around there?

It varies a lot where we go. First trip was hiking in the mountains for a week then we arrived at some cottages where we stayed another week. Second trip was canoeing in rapids, we started from school and followed swedens biggest river downstream for 5 days. Third was also canoeing, we went to some really small rivers a few miles away from school and paddled for a week, it was the most challenging trip so far. Then last trip so far was quite close to school, we split up and camped alone. It was quite cold, -20 degrees celcius first day then it got a bit warmer next days.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-28 19:15:27 +0000 UTC]

Wow only 300? That's awesome.
It must be so fun being able to travel near school. Do you travel in Sweden or in the Γ…land Islands? (I'm not sure if they're connected..)
I imagine how beautiful it must be.. Are your photos in Deviantart from there?
And, -20 degrees?? I'm freezing with 19 degrees haha.

Israel is divided to several areas.. As I said, there's this one area with snow in the north, there's a desert in the south (in the border with Egypt), the Mediterranean Sea, the Dead Sea, several beautiful valleys, and protected reservations all over the country. I think I've seen almost every part of it.. But if I had to choose my favorite place it probably wouldn't be a like a public one.. I think I most enjoy the fields around my town. It's nice walking there.
By the way, it's very nice talking to you! I'm always happy talking with people all over the world
Can you send me a link to a song in your native language? I really want to hear what it sounds like.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-28 20:10:44 +0000 UTC]

I study in sweden now but i grew up on Γ…land. If you look in my gallery i have folders with names where i took the pics. Γ…land is an autonomous island wich is part of finland. So we are kind of half our own country.
It's really great being so few, you really get to know people well. After just half a year i know the names of most people in my school.
You just need the right clothes when its cold but winter really makes me more resistant to cold. I was out in just t-shirt the other day when it was 2 degrees.

The nature i enjoy most is by the sea, and a good second place would be in the mountains. I'm a bit jealous that you have deserts there... I always wanted to visit one some day... Its really high on my list of places i want to visit! It sounds like your nature there is really awesome! I think what makes swedens nature stand out most for tourists are the forests. There are forests everywhere and really big ones.

It's nice talking to you too! Glad i met you here
This is one of my favorite song in swedish, title translated is "The girl and the crow" [link]
Here's translations if youre interestedΒ [link]
Do you have any song in your language i can hear?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-29 00:11:59 +0000 UTC]

I can relate to the feeling of knowing people well, with town so small (:
I love forests! There's something about it.. It feels like you're disconnected from the entire world. All you can see are the trees and hear the birds and insects. Does any of that makes sense?

I like the song a lot! It's different from music I'm used to listen, but I love that the language sounds fluent, not staccato.
Here's one song from one of my favorite Hebrew artist [link]
I couldn't find a translation.. Sorry!

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-29 05:45:43 +0000 UTC]

How big is your town? Yea i get what you mean with that feeling I can get that on sea when its very thick mist and youre on a boat or small island. Or during a big storm.

Yea I think its quite fluent i thought that song is good too since she sings very clearly, almost like talking and the video had text what is the song about that you linked? It sounded really nice!

Im on the ferry now going back to Sweden, ive been on Γ…land for Christmas.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-29 10:11:46 +0000 UTC]

The song is called "Thorns". It talks about missing an opportunity.. The man is someone who came from nothing, and he was looking for something he couldn't find. He says that everyone has the right to dream about something they want, and that he wishes he could row in the sea far away. It has a lot of metaphors so I had to fill up the blank with my interpretation (-:

Well I don't know exactly the size of my town, but it's just the feeling of belonging that makes it appear small and welcoming.
Oh and Merry Christmas!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-29 11:27:03 +0000 UTC]

Oh sounds quite nice i like songs which tell a story. Theyre usually more interesting to listen to. If you spoke swedish i would have some good examples

I grew up in a small village with only like 20 people so there i really knew everyone. But still Γ₯land islands only have 28000 inhabitants so i know lots of people there! Do you have any plans for after high school?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-29 11:50:50 +0000 UTC]

Maybe I'll even learn Swedish some day

I really want to work in the Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs.. For once, it involves languages, and also I think it's interesting because of the connections you get with people around the world. But I guess that'll have to wait cause I'll be in the army first.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-29 12:11:35 +0000 UTC]

Yea why not give it a try

That sounds like a fitting job for you! Is the army there mandatory? Even for girls?
Γ…land is a demilitarized zone, so we dont have to be in the army and no army is allowed on Γ₯land.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-29 12:42:26 +0000 UTC]

Yes it's obligated and for everyone, but some people don't go.. Like really religious people\with disabilities\married.
But not everyone are fighters, there are a lot of different jobs there.. There are of course girls that want to be fighter-soldiers or pilots (which are naturally more of a guys-jobs), but most of them do other things. I know it's necessary but I think it's dangerous, and frankly kind of scary.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

KaniJonas In reply to shayke8 [2012-12-29 13:11:21 +0000 UTC]

I dont belive fighting war with war is a solution for anything. But unfortunately the people with power seems to think so...
What are you going to do in the army? Do you know already?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

shayke8 In reply to KaniJonas [2012-12-29 15:04:32 +0000 UTC]

I don't know what I'll do but I hope it'll be useful at least. If I'm going to be there, I'd like to contribute as much as I can.
I think war, regardless to who or where, is ridiculous. But I know that under certain conditions there isn't another option, and sometimes you have to react fast. I've lived through it, and I think no one should have to, no matter where they came from.

But yes, I get what you say. I wish it was peaceful, too.
