I do, lass! I have the first two albums-- I heard they just reformed!

They have?! I didn't know that actually. I've been listening to a couple of songs on those first two albums a lot recently.

"Dreams" with the volume set to Maim on my exquisite Denon amp is purty much a religious experience...

"Dreams" was actually the song I sent the southerner some weeks ago! Is there a volume louder than Maim on your exquisite Denon amp???

Thank you! We've officially moved...for the 8th time in my life. I love this apartment though...it's on the 9th floor like right on top of Lake Michigan. How are you?

9 is my favorite number...
I'm okay-- kinda hassled and frustrated--> -- basically, my usual self.

I'm in North Dakota right now! We stayed in the mountains in South Dakota for a few days too... and we were ALMOST going to go further down and visit Denver, but we didn't have time! Are you still hassled and frustrated??
π: 0 β©: 1
SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-08-19 21:29:26 +0000 UTC]
Yes, for truly it is my destiny!
When I was a kid I had a friend whose family traveled with the military; he'd just come from North Dakota, where he called everyone Nodaks!
I'm finally reading art spiegelman's complete Maus in the morning with coffee-- Maus 1 was as difficult an object to find in my closet as ever an object has been!
π: 0 β©: 1
zenatz19 In reply to SRaffa [2011-08-20 18:57:18 +0000 UTC]
Why are you hassled and frustrated?
LMAO, Nodaks... People always tend to ask me if my father's in the military when they hear my nomadic history. All the people we've met in the Dakotas have been really friendly by the way. It's strange...it makes me realize that people in Chicago are rather aloof!
I remember when we were talking about Maus a few years ago and you told me how it was lost somewhere in your closet!! You found it?! What do you think of it now?
π: 0 β©: 1
SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-08-20 20:54:28 +0000 UTC]
Well, I love art spiegelman, for one thing, and getting to read the entire arc now, instead of just the first book-- I'm in awe of it, and I'm absorbed by it, for sure.
I'm hassled and frustrated because those are the two capacities most prominently hardwired into my personality!

zenatz19 In reply to SRaffa [2011-09-15 04:39:52 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's awesome! You make me want to read it again...
Nah, the two capacities most prominently hardwired into your personality are kindness and talent. And I'm a person with an objective point of view, so I must be right!

SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-09-15 07:29:44 +0000 UTC]
Give me a little sketch of what's going on with you these days-- school is fierce, your new home is challenging but pleasant enough, things are good with the southern man, you've got time to read for pleasure? Okay that last one was just a total pipe dream...

SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-09-17 20:33:26 +0000 UTC]
Hey, I'm gonna wanna read those Helicon things-- and you gotta show me some drawings! I can't believe so little of your time will be spent on trains anymore! We'll have to fit you with a brand new nickname...
You're going to love that art class, I purty much guarantee.
Barnes & Noble had Jonathan Franzen's latest, Freedom, available as a bargain book, unbeknownst to me-- but they're able to order one from the "warehouse", and so I'll have a hardback copy of it on Monday, for less than seven bucks... Happy? Oh YEAH, I yam.

I have a drawing I finished a year ago that I could technically upload this minute if I wanted to, but I am now unreasonably TERRIFIED of submitting stuff here, since it's been more than 2 years since I last did... I don't think most people would care anymore, you know? But...I'm taking the art class right now and I love it! I love that I HAVE to draw all the time now, unless I want to fail the class. The professor is really very awesome and nice. It's great getting feedback on what I'm doing. This is her: [link] I was just talking about her with Diego actually.
Have you read Freedom yet? Year of the rat...that is an amazing deal! What've you been up to in general recently?

SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-10-09 20:59:33 +0000 UTC]
Count me among the people hoping you'll post it here, and damned soon!
I'm right at the half-way mark in Freedom-- it's great!
[link] Good times.
Uh, lots of movies, less internet, less time for everything for some reason-- this obsession with a mid day cappuccino has been cutting into my walkies time, and throwing the whole schedule off by an hour or two every damn day!
How are you? I'm totally in love with St. Vincent, aka Annie Clark...

zenatz19 In reply to SRaffa [2011-10-28 21:56:19 +0000 UTC]
Yeah that's her...she actually gets more awesome as the weeks go by. We're working with brush and ink now! I'm really liking this medium so far...
I love that you have a new beverage obsession... how's autumn going over there?
By the way, your syntax is curiously terse these days... Have you noticed that? Maybe it's just with me though
π: 0 β©: 1
SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-10-29 00:43:54 +0000 UTC]
I'm terse in nearly every aspect of my life currently-- I blame the extra caffeine. I miss seeing your art, and your writing, 6trains-- I miss your various muses.
We had one of the prettiest autumns ever; how bout Chitown?
I'm currently obsessing over the chipotlΓ© fried chicken over at King Soopers...

zenatz19 In reply to SRaffa [2011-11-06 02:51:34 +0000 UTC]
It's not a bad thing! It's just a stylistic change...
I've been writing tons of academic essays, but I haven't really been creatively writing at all lately...like, I've pretty much stopped writing poetry. Is that a bad thing? I just don't feel the NEED to write it? But umm if you really wanted, I could show you the drawing I'm currently working on...
Chicago's autumn is beautiful as always. We have a lot of trees that are still red and yellow over here. My art class is meeting at the MCA on Tuesday by the way! We don't have King Soopers over here so I can't obsess over that fried chicken with you!

I do want to wee your drawing, please...

I just read this random review online, and the person said that chicken was "INFUSED with heat!" Wow I really wish I could find some right now actually...
Check your email sometime soon! Hopefully it doesn't suck completely...

O_____O You're a gallery mod again! Or whatever the fuck dA calls that position now. That is AWESOME! You seriously make this oft-superficial and airheaded place a hundred times better for everyone. There is something about you that brings together two worlds... dA is becoming so mainstream and capitalistic, and I feel like you have always been some sort of underground leader. I'm in a terrible mood today and dA is just extra irksome to me now (why the FUCK are journals like deviations now?) but basically all I'm trying to say is that I'm happy you're doing this again!

SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-11-20 22:38:57 +0000 UTC]
I'm happy when you're happy-- and I don't know what the fuck dA calls the GM thingie anymore either!
You and me have always lived in downtown dA; where the record stores and ChipotlΓ© are.
I haven't tried to write a journal in the new shenanigans yet, but I just KNOW I'll find it irksome...

zenatz19 In reply to SRaffa [2011-12-03 01:36:36 +0000 UTC]
Your DD writeups are as interesting as always, by the way... It really annoys me that most DDs lack writeups now...to me that means that the GM was either lazy or that they lack both the communication skills and the artistic experience to put into words why a particular piece is good. I dunno, in my opinion a true experienced artist should be able to tell you at least a little about WHY something is good...
lol sorry I keep ranting to you about dA. ;_____; Our downtown dA still hasn't been gentrified yet, luckily...

SRaffa In reply to zenatz19 [2011-12-03 04:04:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, clearly tis the season to rant about dA-- I'm actually KEEN to hear all of it-- caps, because, as God is my witness, I've never used the word Keen before-- my sisters, when they were tiny, would find small toy parts-- like a small hammer or comb-- and they'd say, "KEEN FOR BARBIE" which I still think is just the best phrase ever...
