You can get how many pageviews you want if you've got a proxy

i have just searched around using google and read some wikipedia about proxy.. it is really interesting thing, but i guss proxy just change your real ip to another.. it does transfer all trafick not directly to ur pc..
so it will only be one more pageview to get as many as he got... i guess he had to change proxy each time page loads for a fev month non stop lol. maby there is the other way?

Proxy doesn't change as much as it hides your IP behind someone elses.
And since pageviews on dA isn't counted by one hit/day from every IP there's a loop hole to give yourself pageviews.
If a visitor clicks on your page the next time you click on it you'll give yourself a pageview.
So it's pretty easy to write a program that uses two proxy servers who constantly refreshes your userpage. You can basically get a pageview/second.
People get banned for stunts like that every now and again.

Because some people think that lots of pageviews = coolness.
They fail to realise that without actual people coming to see your art, you've got nothing

But it usually results in people sking these questions because they've found the person through the today page and also looking at their art. XD

Yeah but it's a risky business. If the admins catch wind of the the proxy thing they'll ban you. And by getting on the Today page you certainly make it easy to be noticed both by admins and by other people who can report you.

Because they really do think that pageviews are the epitome of cool.
Same reason people have signatures like:
"How to get more pageviws [link to their page]" or why they spam people's pages with "random deviant says HI!" stuff.
It's not really about getting people to look at their art, it's about winning a popularity contest by cheating. :\ Which is a case for the nearest shrink.

To me there's a difference between making a joke and tricking people. It's not likely that people will happily wander round someone's gallery when they've basically been tricked to go there
