Like... pickle? Or bombastic? Orrrr... tittle?
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-16 15:19:59 +0000 UTC]
Pickle is like "inlagd gurka" in swedishXD
Bombastic is almost the same; "bombastisk"
as it comes to the word "tittle", I have no idea what it meansXD
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-16 15:42:47 +0000 UTC]
Woah, two words = pickle? Sweet!
What does it mean literally?
A tittle is the dot on top of an "i." Ohman, so educational!
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-17 09:41:10 +0000 UTC]
hahaXD It means literally "pickled cucumber" in swedishXD
oh, okay! XD so I guess it would be "pricken ΓΆver i:t" in swedish, or something like thatXD it literally means "the dot on top of an 'i'" XD I don't think we have an actual word for "tittle" really
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-17 13:39:25 +0000 UTC]
Oh... well, that's not very exciting.
What about "water-based lubricant?" Because I have that stuff ALL over my elbow, at the moment, and it's pissing me off... so I'm hoping it's a very angry-sounding phrase in Swedish... so I can yell at it... or something.
Do you have a word for maroon? Like... the colour.
My friend from Finland tells me there's not a word for it in Finnish. Pretty freaking crazy. : D
(I'm pretty sure dictionary editors just sit in a circle for hours and come up with words for ridiculous things, just to make English a more difficult language to learn. You know the little plastic or metal bit at the end of a shoelace? It's called an aglet. )
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-18 09:21:07 +0000 UTC]
"Waterbased lubricant" can be "vattenbaserat glidmedel" or "vattenbaserad smΓΆrja" you can also say "smΓΆrjmedel" instead of "smΓΆrja" in swedishXD but I think in your case that it is the second option you need to focus onXD I don't know if it's angry-sounding enoughXD what do you think? O.o
Why do you have that on your elbow?
No, we don't have an actual word for it either, it's like "mΓΆrk brun till lila rΓΆd" which means "dark brown to purple red" roughly translated in englishXD but it's a lot easier just having one word for it
(hahaXD yeah, perhaps soXD Or they are smart for doing so, so that there are fewer words!^^ Really? If you hadn't explained that I wouldn't have known what it wasXD)
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-18 09:49:32 +0000 UTC]
Freaking hell. Sounds pretty angry to me... although, I'd probably pronounce it incorrectly. Let's hope my elbow doesn't speak Swedish.
Oh, I found a packet of it in my friend's bathroom, and proceeded to lubricate everything I could, but then I'd lubricated the entire house and I still had some left in my hand. So I rubbed my elbow in it. It's logical.
Hurr, interesting... Do you know of any words in Swedish that we don't have in English?
No, all native English-speakers are absolute assholes, and delight in the pain of others trying to learn their language. Including me... to some extent. >___>
Erinaceous = like a hedgehog
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-21 07:43:02 +0000 UTC]
hahaXD yeah, let's hope it doesn't if it sounds that angrilyXD oh, I see^^
I can't think of anything that exists just in swedish and that english have two words for it or more, since swedish takes many words from english and french and a lot of others as well^^' But I do know that english have taken a word from us!^^ "smorgasbord" which in swedish is "smΓΆrgΓ₯sbord" and means, roughly translated, "sandwich table"
Oh, really?? I think it's fun to learn new things in englishXD hahaXD
OkXD it has a weird name, I must say
Julgran - Christmas tree
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-21 11:08:23 +0000 UTC]
Homg, I didn't know that was Swedish! Cool, cool... I love that word. English speakers tend to like stealing words for food and meals and turning them into something related, but completely innaccurate. We're a very hungry bunch.
*takes notes*
Okay... *scribble scribble* How do you say piglet? I love piglets. ; w ;
Hmmm, it's hard thinking of strange English words... Uh... "nudiustertian" is the the day before yesterday, but never use it or you'll get beaten up. : |
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-22 09:51:36 +0000 UTC]
hahaXD it is^^ an odd word, reallyXD but I don't think we use that word in the same way for us, it literally is a table with a big sandwich with lots of stuff on it and we use it for special occasions ^^
Piglet has two different words for it, which really means the same thing^^ first one is "spΓ€dgris" and the second one is "kulting"^^ They are cute
The swedish "Γ€" is pronounced almost like the "ea" in weather^^ "ΓΆ" is pronounced almost like the "u" in "murder" and the swedish "Γ₯" is pronounced sort of like the "o" in "oh"^^ just so you know
It sounds almost like something is nude weird wordXD okay I'll try not to use it^^ I don't want to get beaten up
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-22 11:59:35 +0000 UTC]
Yeah, it's just a wide variety of something in English. It's just that "buffet" sounds a little ridiculous when you say it without a French accent.
WHY ARE THERE TWO DIFFERENT WORDS FOR THE SAME THING?! This is what I don't understand about Scandinavian languages...
Yes, I'm familiar with the pronunciations from learning Finnish, but I still can't pronounce "y" properly. *sigh*
I'm glad I'm not the only one who thinks that. XD
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-25 11:02:45 +0000 UTC]
it really does^^'
I don't know but we mostly use the word "kulting" rather than "spΓ€dgris"^^ Scandinavians are weird, I know^^ Nice well, I've heard scandinavian languages are quite difficult to learn, especially swedish grammar, so it is understandable^^
hahaXD
GOD JUL!!! MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!! I hope you will have a wonderful day and many presents^^ Since we in scandinavia celebrated christmas yesterday, we are mostly going to take it easy today^^
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-25 13:29:29 +0000 UTC]
Hee, thankyou! I actually... didn't get any presents.... because my family obviously doesn't love me, even after I bought/made them all presents and baked 8 dozen sugar cookies for them. *sob* I bought myself a slushie machine, though, so at least I have something to keep me occupied.
How was your Christmas? Hopefully the weather wasn't as miserable there as it was here. Did you get snow? : 3
Oh, what do you do to celebrate Christmas in Sweden?
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2010-12-30 10:25:24 +0000 UTC]
You didn't? *pat on your head* It's good that you bought yourself something that you wanted, and slushies are great!XD
My Christmas was awesome!^^ My nephew and both of my sisters were there and we had a Santa for my nephew^^ He was afraid of the old Santa from last year, so my sister (not spaceflikkanXD) told him that she had asked to send a new Santa for him, and this year he got an approval from my nephew^^ So cute!
Yeah, there has been snow here since november^^' there's just piles of snow everywhere, and it's snowing almost every day!
We celebrate christmas here by eating ham, swedish meatballs, potatoes and stuffXD and it's a swedish tradition to watch a special Donald Duck show at 3p.mXD after that we open presents, and then we do whatever we wantXD
How do you celebrate christmas??
π: 0 β©: 1
TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2010-12-30 11:28:44 +0000 UTC]
Awww, cute. XD I bet you have good Santas in Sweden. If you don't mind me asking, how old ARE you and your sisters? Is your eldest sister much older than you two? D:
Man, you're so lucky. It was nearly 45 degrees here on Christmas Day, and I'd gnaw off my own leg to have snow during Yule.
Donald Duck? Christmas? In Swedish? I must see this. What's the significance of watching this show?
Yeah, pretty similar here(FOODFOODFOOD), except we celebrate Christmas Day more than Christmas Eve. We open presents in the morning, then eat, then lie beneath the air-conditioner for the rest of the day. A lot of people go to the beach or have barbeques, but my mother is from the US, so we have a more traditional Christmas celebration. Actually, we went to an Advent service on Christmas Eve, and it was quite nice... very good choir and an actual string ensemble, which I was quite impressed by. The music is my favourite part of Christmas. : 3
π: 0 β©: 1
Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2011-01-02 12:18:48 +0000 UTC]
I don't know about thatXD perhaps we do? O.o
hahaXD I'm 20, Spaceflikkan is 24 and my oldest sister is 35^^ so 15 years older than me and 11 years older than spaceflikkanXD so yeah, she's a lot older than us^^' we also have a brother that's 18, soon to be 19
It sounds waaaay too hot for me^^' Snow is special during Christmas, makes it more magical, somehow You have to come to Sweden to see it for yourself^^ But it can be reeeeeaaaaally cold during winter
Yep, Donald DuckXD hahaXD Well, it has been a Swedish tradition since 1960's, I believe, and has been shown since then, so both my mother and my father watched it when they were kids^^ and I watched it since I was a kid, so it has been around for many generations^^
Okay it sounds fun that too^^
Choirs are great, and I would also love to see a string ensemble sounds really impressive! Music is lovely on Christmas^^ I love a swedish song named "Julen Γ€r hΓ€r", which means "Christmas is here". The lyrics are great and meaningful^^
[link]
Although it's not the best version, it has english subs^^ It was the only one I could find, but there are better versions of the song
Happy Late New Year!^^

TariSaralonde In reply to Deathinheaven [2011-01-03 11:37:17 +0000 UTC]
Well, considering this little nephew of yours has a CHOICE of Santas, you must have some decent ones... all of ours are creepy and HO HO HO with Australian accents. >:
Can I marry your brother? Kthx.
Yeah, it's too hot for me, too. I'm very pale, blue-eyed, brown-haired, relatively short with a long torso, and otherwise geared for cold weather... not sure how I've survived all this time in Australia. I've never seen snowfall, so I'm eternally jealous of you Nordic fellows.
That's so cool. D: I don't think we have any traditions like that, here... but when I lived in America, we always watched "It's a Wonderful Life" at Christmas. I hate that movie.
*sheds a tear* So... BEAUTIFUL! ; w ; I'm sure there ARE better versions, though. XD They're probably the worst duet I've ever heard, despite being good singers separately.
Happy New Year~
Oh, and I melted several times during your vlog. I think I love your accents too much...

Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2011-01-17 09:41:28 +0000 UTC]
hahaXD well, perhaps so^w^ That sound very... scary^^'
hahaXD if he wants to, then sure who am I to stop it?
Oh, then maybe you would like the environment here in Sweden? Although in summer it can be incredibly hot! But perhaps nowhere near Australia in temperature, but still hot... for me^^' Our winter is mostly cold^^
Well, the only time one really have to see snow fall is during christmas, and I feel bad for you! Someday I have to drag you over here somewhere near Christmas so that you can see snowfall^w^
Oh, I couldn't agree more!XD Yeah, they are so bad together!XD and apart too, at least the guy is...^^'
hahaXD Thank you~ ^^

No, no. I'm not going to ask him. I'm going to TELL him we're honeymooning in Russia.
How hot does it get in Sweden? My friend in Helsinki says it rarely gets to 30 degrees where he lives.
You may have to do that... must... see... SNOW.
Oh, the English dub of Kuroshitsuji is out! *runs around* Well, I'm excited, anyway. If you'd like a link to it online (it's not illegal... what are you talking about?) juuuuust drop me a line.

Deathinheaven In reply to TariSaralonde [2011-01-23 09:13:23 +0000 UTC]
hahaXD do so XD I want to see his reaction to thatXD
For us, especially on sunny (not windy) days we get about 30 degrees here even if it rains we can get about 30 degrees in the summer. But it's like that only in the summer, rarely in Spring and in Autumn. In winter we can get up to -30 degrees here
hahaXD
I think I just have to see it just so that I can hear the voices so I'd appreciate it^w^

Thank you!^^ I'll watch it whenever I have the time hahaXD I'll try not to kill myself when I hear it

Yeah, it's like how you can only do that cool thing with the spaghetti and the straw when no-one's watching. I know what it's like. -___-
And hell, if you stop say "wideos" I'll die. It's so cute. And "JouTube". Ffffff adorable. <3
