MerlindaDragon In reply to RiHouston [2012-02-23 01:04:01 +0000 UTC]

Well, I wanted to make sure that I knew what the outcome to the contest was and I figured the best way to do that was to +Watch. Hope you get more entries soon!!

And thanks for the luck with DA2 Rivalmance! (Damn Anders... I don't know where that piece came from!) It's actually my first contest entry, and I really entered on a lark (and because one of my readers from suggested it to me... I don't think that I would have known/entered otherwise). Good luck to you as well. (Between you and me, if that chipmunk thing gets a prize, I will boycott that group for the rest of time. I don't think that follows the theme at all... but maybe I'm just missing something.)

RiHouston In reply to MerlindaDragon [2012-02-23 02:40:13 +0000 UTC]

Ah! And here I thought it was my l33t art skillz or winning personality that drew you to me. Note to self: Create more contests with prizes and draw more half nekkid mages and templars to add to the gallery. Right!

There is no need for you to worry that you will be stuck wondering what the outcome of the contest will be. Having been in several now myself, I plan on notifying all participants via Note as to the journal update letting them know that the judging was complete and to view the results. Also, I am one for handing out prizes once the winners are announced because I have had some take a few weeks to get to me. I hope that in being prompt and courteous that I will have more interest from folks for future contests I might run.

As to the DA2 contest: Yeah, high school and popularity. Or maybe I honestly just don't "get it" and the new chipmunk movies were just that awesome. Either way, the gal used a base from another artist and did minor adjustments so I feel everyone else put in more time and effort so I am sorry to see it go unrewarded. The gal who runs the group is super nice, so give it another chance since this contest turned out to be a strange one. Personally, I was a bit surprised you writers didn't get more votes since I have seen ya'lls names on submissions to the Bioware fan sites pretty regularly since I joined dA and ya'll seem to have a strong following. I thought you peeps had more sway with your lackies. You should have a button somewhere on your profile page labeled: DEPLOY MINIONS!

This is why I am judging my own contest rather than putting it up to popular vote. I think that in my situation that since I was the one who set the criteria I should also be the one judging each piece based on its merit. So far, the two entries that have been submitted more than met my criteria so I am pleased. I didn't want to put restrictions on a minimum to offer the prizes since I think that isn't great for those who decided to give it a shot to have the chance to not get anything at all for their time or efforts. By the way, I don't know if you noticed the edit, but I am allowing up to two entries per person so just an f.y.i. in case that slipped by you. I edited on Feb. 17th and I am not sure how well that was understood.

MerlindaDragon In reply to RiHouston [2012-02-23 18:23:48 +0000 UTC]

I did see that, though I don't think I have another OMG moment.

Well... maybe I do...

I haven't actually voted--I don't think it's right to vote for yourself in a contest--so I don't know how the votes are panning out. Really? The writing isn't getting any votes? Damn lazy people who don't want to read! As for 'lackies,' I wouldn't say that I have that many, really. I could really count them on one hand, which I don't think would sway the vote at all. Though I did ask my followers to vote... whether they did or not is beyond me.

"Deploy Minions" button. I'll work on that.

And don't think that's the only reason I'm following you... I didn't mean for it to come out quite that way.

RiHouston In reply to MerlindaDragon [2012-02-23 23:48:07 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha! Yeah, I know what I would do for this contest, and I plan on doing it at some point just for fun. So many Bioware games, so many awesome moments! You truly should get your hands on Mass Effect (I think I remember you saying you haven't played that). I love games with depth-not that crazy kind of depth where you have to remember everything and keep a stenographer handy to keep stuff straight-but depth with characters, story development and exploration. I also like to be able to go where I want without the game forcing me through corrals to lead me to the end of game story. I could talk games all day long, so I won't bore you with my obsession, I'll let my art bombard you instead!

Voting, well, I have voted in the contests I have been a part of because it is a good way to check out the ideas others put forth in either writing or art and seeing how they depicted it. I like to vote for the person I think best embodied the spirit of the contest and the challenges set in it. I guess you could vote for yourself if you wanted, but to be honest, I usually have more sophisticated artists/writers that I am up against, so finding my own favorite from their works is never tough. Besides, you can't see the results without voting which is the other reason I tend to vote more regularly (whether I am a part of it or not). If you look at the other entries and truly believe yours is the best, I see no reason why you shouldn't vote for your own. Maybe one day I can do that, but I am SO far away from that level of art.

Oh, and as far as the watching joke, I didn't mean I thought that, I just needed any flimsy excuse I could find to add half nekkid templars, ex templars, and mages to my gallery.

MerlindaDragon In reply to RiHouston [2012-02-24 00:04:36 +0000 UTC]

You so silly.

And, no, I haven't gotten to ME. My friend Voce has told me about it--the major plot, about some of the characters, &c.--but I haven't played. It seems like it may be deja vu from DA, though, as she's gotten my OTHER friend, Eryn, into it and, as with DA, I'm the last on the bandwagon. I dunno, though... spacy sci-fi's not generally my thing, so I may fall off that wagon if I ever climb on.

And don't feel too bad about your art level. My stick figures are outlawed in seven states.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RiHouston In reply to MerlindaDragon [2012-02-24 00:36:55 +0000 UTC]

Hmmm...it isn't deja vu with DA because...shoot, I keep having to erase my answer because I'll give away the good stuff. Trust me, there is enough difference that you'll be hooked. Don't commit to buying it, but just give yourself time to play it. Borrow it for a day or two and then, if you don't like it at least you tried. I am using the same logic with you as I do my four year old, but you really should at least give it a shot, I was skeptical as well and I am so glad my husband talked me into it!

Only seven states? Hahaha, poor stick figures, hopefully the states weren't the scenic ones. I have this one picture that I actually kept all these years from my childhood, it is the only artwork I have kept from my youth. I made it in art class when I was 4. The teacher told us to paint something, anything we wanted. I was excited because I was what all my teachers called "a daydreamer". Here finally I could put to paper some of the beautiful pictures that floated around in my head. So, I got my paper and all the colors that were available in that art class and set to work. There was a blue sky with some fluffy white clouds and green grass. I had this awesome idea to make a forest filled with animals. I thought it was an awesome idea, but I thought in my 4 year old mind to start with something small so I chose a ladybug. I pushed the paintbrush's tip to the paper and made a red dot. The dot wasn't quite oval-y enough, so I made it a little larger. It was still looking lumpy, so I kept right at it. Needless to say, I am the current owner of a picture of a super gigantic ladybug standing with his antenna in the clouds. Dream big, or not all all I guess. I remember at first my reason for keeping that picture was simple. I would make that forest, one creature at a time. I would add ALL the animals together and then tape all the paintings to show my vision to that now forgotten kindergarten class. Now, I still have this painting, but my reason for keeping it has changed. It is to show my son that you should never give up on an idea just because it doesn't turn out the way you want it to. That ladybug is feared by pest control companies in all the land, it is legend. Maybe you should keep all your stick figures and that is your army of-Legion. Oh shoot...you won't get that joke unless you play ME2. Play ME to get my silly tie in jokes!

I meant deja vu because I'd be undergoing the same situation I explained in the description for "It Starts." And I may play it one of these days... but I have to get through Awakening and DAII first. I'll never forgive myself otherwise!!!
