When I was young I use to draw with coloring pencils and would try to get things accurately down...I think I was better then with color, lol. The color portrait and my elf illustration (from my gallery) are from some time back when I practiced a lot. Because I stopped for a long time, I am slowly trying to get back in. Recently I have been practicing with color again. My recent attempts are not too bad but they not that good either. The only really good color one was the Elisha Cuthbert from years ago.

If you interested, and I don't mean to plug anything, but I have a group called MasterStudiesAndMore if you would like to join. Here's the good and bad of the group:
The con's: we are a small group, you may not get that much exposure as you are hoping for, we don't focus on original works (unless we are doing a challenge, which we are currently)
The pro's: because we small we interact a lot and everyone encourages each other. It's a fun little group of people who like to illustrate and are looking for ways to improve our abilities and we experiment with different mediums (it's not just about uploading but  learning). We do master studies (choose an image you like, replicate and post it alongside the study), we then give you crit and try to let you know what it is you may be lacking and help you get better!!! that's the idea...it actually works. Me and ro5ert
started the group and if you look at both our study1 images compared to our latest study, there is a big improvement!!!

Have a look at our group page, see some artwork and read some comments to see what we are about...if you like what you see and you are interested, it would be fun to have you. Also it would be cool to have more people who are good at color (I like that your colors pop and that they don't clash. You should not take your skill for granted because if this is your beginner then I can't wait to see what intermediate and professional looks like    
P.S. you are not obligated to join my group. I only mention because you are keen on learning and sometimes joining big groups were there are amazing artists can be a bit intimidating...still join those groups, our group is more about the,'well what can I do to get better in order to compete with those guys'

You got me thinking about what you said - you like weeby things  . I like anime and I know there are lots of movies that I have seen with the most beautiful scenes. My group is trying to find ways to make ourselves more, I guess fun...may be more accessible. What we currently do is find an image from long ago and redraw the image - learning how they did color, anatomy, lighting, ect. This is very good and helpful, in a very academic way. However, there could be a lot to learn from artists of today, eg: Bubbles  or Black  or Key To Opportunity  . 

Hypothetically..would someone like you who is not interested in drawing naked olden day people, be interested in doing studies based on maybe a movie or manga that you like. It would essentially still mean that you would be learning but in line with what you are interested in. I am trying to see if this idea is worth exploring. If not please let me know. thanks.

Hey default!!!,
Ya we do 'master studies' (which is more realistic, not many weebs back then, although no one really has thought to do any surrealist artists which is strange...never thought about that). We do it for the sake of learning proportion and understanding flow and all that good stuff. It's cool if you don't want to join, what you could do is have a look at the affiliated groups we have - they are much bigger groups that have many artists on them. May be you might come across different artists you like doing the style you like..plus they are focused on original work so it is weeb friendly . In fact if you look at:Voice From Darkness  or Afternoons  or even the group  www.deviantart.com/givethemlov… there are so many amazing artists to follow. Deviantart is full of weebs (really REALLY GOOD weebs) and...well...other stuff that gets borderline weird...people be drawing feet and eating children  (lol, I made it sound like they are eating children while they are drawing ) . Deviantart art has room for everyone so not to worry . Don't be a stranger tho, you can always ask me anything, comment, ask for advise if you like or even just chat - always nice to meet new people
