I disagree with you there, they give you guidelines and depend on what you know, what you've learnt, what you understand and what your willing to explore is what they are fundamentally saying, they give you a project, how you do it depends entirely on your limits and what you want to explore beyond. your the teacher at the end of day.

Well Malcolm seemed to suggest I should go for the animation course once I complete btech, I also met a lad called Sean on the animation course now who's gonna show me the ropes with Maya and in return I'm helping him with human form and character design, I got a cintiq 21 ux here and really want to get Into digital art but just getting to grips with some of the progs, like Photoshop, manga studio at the mo. But I may do the art foundation cos I'm enjoying trying a bit of everything, where as I traditionally before college was just pencil, fineliner and ink and markers. But loving painting with acrylics and watercolors and just experimenting in general. See how I feel anyways when I complete course. seeya around :r

Thats fair enough, everyone has their own views on it ^^
I personally like the course I'm on, though on a foundation
course you have alot more freedom to explore things at your
own pace and with whatever you like
