It comes off to me, that while both can be attracted to and have sex with women, they have a bond far deeper with each other. In those days homosexual behavior wasn't generally such a bad thing, especially with warriors, so they probably did have romantic/sexual attraction which they likely acted upon.

It's nice to see we have a similar interpretation <3 And well, I did a huge paper for school a few years back about "Homosexuality and the Warrior Culture".... Going through Sumeria, Greece/Rome, Japan, and so on. I know because the subject fascinates me. And I use knowledge to fight the homophobia created in the same of Yaldabaoth (Old Testament God). Why should such a young belief, meaning, monotheism, under the names of Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, decide who can sleep with who?

The name of the book is "Sexe et amour de Sumer à Babylone" from Véronique Grandpierre. She's got a good theory about the relation between Gilgou and Enkidu ! She thought Gilgamesh was very "hungry" and with apparition of Enkidu he found something enough "big" to calm his "hunger"... If you know what I mean... hu hu hu

And I think monotheist culture are not open to many kind of relations between people, and I find it so sad and cruel...

For example in the journay for Humbaba forest, they walk and perhaps fought all day long and after the sundown... next to the fire... They could make the count of their victory, explain their fight in a great debate and make increased their mutual heat... Their love of fight certainly... ha ha ha !

Hope you can find this book, it's really good to explain relations between gods each other and people too !

My interest of Mesopotamia is in Gilgamesh himself ! I met him in the manga Fate/Stay Night (not real good for me), but I was interest in one character : Gilgamesh. I wanted to know the real character and I found something more better, and thousand more manly, than I expected !
A great person, a great story and (oh joy !) a relation with an other great and manly character !

And behind him I found a rich culture I would like to study ! (I'm in archeology) But I can't for now...

It keeps the relationship alive. Many relationships die when one side loses respect for the other, the healthy competition keeps things lively and exciting. 

Gnostic Christianity is very interesting in that  respect. It is a lot more honest than most forms of the religion, which is why the Catholic Church destroyed them and tried to burn/hide all their texts.  When you look at Angels, and at Sumerian pictures of the Annunaki, there are certainly similarities

Fate/Zero Gilgamesh is SO MUCH BETTER than Stay/Night. He has more of the attitude and just feels more right, even if the coloring/outfit are kind of wrong XD (Just saying).
And yeah. Once you know the real story, it'shard for any other version to measure up. Their relationship .... just.... hnngg
The fact that the Fate series made Enkidu a girl PISSED ME OFF -.-

I saw Fate/Zero and... yeah his character is more like the original one !
But I prefer the one in Stay Night as Fate character more than Gilgamesh himself.

It's nice to love many things, it's good to an opened mind !

In the Epic of Gilgamesh I prefer the first part (because of Enkidu), the second is not bad but depressed Gilgamesh make me feel bad... ^^" So I draw him principally from the first part and from now I draw only times him before it...

Old stories from old civilizations are often interesting and exotic... !

The writers were trying harder I think... Many of the Fate/Zero heroes were more like their original selves....
And yes. He's not.... Gilgamesh-y enough to deserve the name XD

I was lucky enough to be raised in an open minded family. Even if it was tiny. I was free to learn about whatever I wanted. 

It makes sense. When you love someone, fictional or not, you want them to be happy.... And as an artist, you can choose when you want to draw them...  

Indeed. They are far more open minded about things like magic and technology, even if they don't understand what they're writing about. 
Have you ever read any of Zacharia Sitchin's work? He did so much translating of Sumerian tablets and it's fascinating reading

It's kind of a crucial point in Gilgamesh's life... And while I would bet at first he would try to not let it affect him, because testosterone fueled males try to not have feelings, when it truly hits that his companion is gone it would be beautiful and tragic in the same moment.

A lot of his works are very interesting. Given his topics I definitely think you would enjoy giving it a look. Some find him too "Ancient Aliens"/... But "The King Who refused to die" is an allegorical novel he did actually largely about Gilgamesh.... And talks about Sumerian sex rituals XD

When I was in art school I drew one board of Epic of Gilgamesh, it was the moment when he turn around Enkidu's body and lament himself... But the teacher didn't like it... Too bad...

I really like professional works about sexuality, that can teach me some new things from those times. That I can't learn from our epoch...

My comic teacher was blase from his job... He wanted to be drawer but must work as teacher... So I don't think he enjoyed to teach... And perhaps little homophobia, on my last picture of the board there was Gilgamesh close enough to Enkidu for kiss him corpse. And my teacher told me to separated them... ha ha ha !

If my comic teacher was homophobia my anatomy's one was not at all ! Ha ha ha ! On the contrary he didn't like girls !XD
So yes I was to an art school in Lyon !
