Don't worry about your art sucking! That's just the inner critic everyone has. I think that the best way to earn respect is not to be really amazing, but to show that you're trying to improve. There's some fancy saying that goes like "Perfection is the pursuit of perfection." You won't improve if you don't put yourself out there!
