Hey Luther sorry for the late reply and my long absence from DA. I've had a few setbacks but I'm getting back on track. I hope your pushing forward, I'm working through my art issues . I've kept up my figure drawing so even though I haven't produced draw dropping stuff I'm pretty pleased with my rough figure building. I've messed many sketch books over my months of absence.

sup bro! glad to know you are still at it I've been without a pc for a while so hadn't been uploading but i got more serious towards traditional work. I think I'm gonna go down that route for now and come back to digital at another time. we both know real art improvement isn't about draw dropping figures, not for what we are trying to do, gotta crack stuff wide open and put it back together again, which isn't pretty, it's a massacre for our subjects

stay strong, our day will come!

Thanks bro! yeah man you haven't been on here in ages! but same here man, just drawing away. been doing a lot of traditional stuff lately. Been playing around with oil paint. its a type of oil paint called Alkyd oils (winsor and newton griffin alkyds)
hows your studying going man! reaching new heights with skill I'm sure

Excellent yeah, traditional give you more confidence when you switch back to digital. Your observational drawing is really really good, I can see you have been pushing away with that. I have been copying hands from reference quite a lot, it's been said that the artists that excell with hands take their work to a next level. I remember enjoying drawing but when it came to hands I was like damn I think I'll make a cuppa tea. So now I'm tackling my weak area.....

LutherTaylor In reply to AstromChang [2012-12-11 12:45:11 +0000 UTC]

sweeeet!! yeah man, gotta jump on those weak areas and own them, let them know who's the daddy haha
Mainly Landscapes are major weakness for me. reading up on a book for colour theory and then plan on reading Jack Hamm's 'Drawing scenery'. best of luck bro

btw thanks for the complement on the observational drawing. I've been implementing a different process which is consistently measuring and finding relationships between line. I can't remember if I showed you this link but hereeee:

[link]

similar to how I draw but without the plumb line and a few other setups. Just straight going by eye and using simple lines to gauge distances/find relationships.
very similar actually to when people do Barque drawings. simple lines and then go into detail when proportions are correct. method can be applied to any object. go hard bro, my faith is in you.

ah bro, also check out your local galleries and look for some exhibitions in illustration and fine art. definitely a route for art to be considered.

No problem! Saw that you posted a link to to Deviant Lesean Thomas' FB group. I don't really have any suggestions when it comes to art books. I usually use the internet as reference. By the way, Blood n Concrete looks tight!

Thanx for the love, blood n concrete means a lot to me, its straight ghetto fighter. get fit, get educated, get money. talkin bout educated- art books - Andrew Loomis Burne Hogarth - George B bridgman.

You can almost be sure all your fave artists have been through or touched on a least one o dem books. copied em out over n over, memorized em got their anatomy down. internet is good, but buyin books, especially by these authors is better. when you get good, write n draw something special n good to you, express yourself in the best of ways with new skills. dont fall in a rut, create something worthy of time, thats what i say to my self when i write my own stuff. stuff that I own.

The female anatomy is what I find difficult in drawing. Those curves always trip me off. But thanks, I'll be sure to purchase there books. Keep up the good work!
