# About me
Amateur photographer , graduate student, & music junkieI prefer shooting 35mm film and have just started to feel like I am producing halfway decent pieces. I'm hoping to get more into digital photography eventually, but it's difficult to do so without anything other than point & shoot cameras.
I love to chat, so if you have any constructive criticism to offer or if you'd just like to say "hello", feel free!

Hey! I have ultimate stalking skills (and by ultimate, I mean subpar) and just followed your tumblr. HOORAH. Also, how's life at Mary Baldwin?

WHOA, how'd you find it?! lol, it's going pretty well. It's that time of the semester where everything's due though. How's life at UMW?

I found it because I stalked your journal entries. Ahahahaha, I'm neptunius btw. UMW is pretty good, I snuck into a dorm that was under construction. It was fun! I also felt like I was going to get murdered like a B-grade actress in a bad slasher flick.

Ah, I see... Yay, following you now! Aren't you a B.A.? Haha, sounds like fun though. What are you majoring in?

Happy New Year to you too! I didn't... I won't have to use them this semester, so I'm not sure when I'll look into getting them fixed. I'll probably fix the Yashica first because my main concern is getting it's screw replaced. The CLA's will probably happen a lot later because they're really expensive (at least from the one business I checked out), and right now I don't have the money for anything new or any repairs on what I have.

I know. I have about 4-5 rolls of film that have yet to be developed; it's just pricey to pay to have them developed. Thanks for the words of encouragement though; you do the same as well!

It is, but I'd love to continue. I'm considering doing a 365 project with film, maybe next year, provided that my cameras work. By then, I should have a digital camera though, so I could do a mix of digital and film work.

What is the 365 project? just one shot a day? I never knew how that worked. Anyway that would be cool, what digital are you looking at?

That's it; one photo for every day of the year. Right now I'm looking at the Canon SX40. It's a superzoom point and shoot. I really want a DSLR eventually, but this will be better and easier for me to take to concerts. I'm hoping to get it over the summer; I might get a DSLR over the summer after that (hopefully).

I had the SX30 so you can look at some of my older shots to get a feel for it. They are pretty cool cameras and the sensor is really good in that one now, they changed it when it went to the SX40 to the CMOS.

Thanks. I just looked at a bunch of them, and read your review. The long exposures and macro shots are pretty impressive... I'm dying to get the SX40 in my hands! How was the SX30, as far as manually controling some of the features?

Mockingbirdkids In reply to Autumn-May [2012-01-23 22:21:03 +0000 UTC]
It's alright except be forewarned that the manual focus is crap and that max aperture is 8. Another annoying feature is that the max shutter on AV and TV is 1 second.

I'll keep that in mind. Are there any similar models you think would be worth looking at?

Mockingbirdkids In reply to Autumn-May [2012-01-25 19:58:56 +0000 UTC]
well ... It's a couple years old now but these are what fall into the same category as the SX30IS. That being said the just look up the current models of whats in this post and you will be able to see the differnces. I think with the CMOS in the Canon SX40 now that camera is prbably the best point and shoot out there for the zoom feature. [link] but you have to remember that you can use CHDK (Canon Hackers Developers Kit) on the Canon. You can control things like shutter speep upwards from 15 seconds to infinity basicly and do interval timing for timelapse stuff. Check it out! and add me to facebook

Where'd you get CHDK, and how much was it? Apparently your name is ridiculously common... Can you send me the link to your profile?
