I love all your designs, they are very phenomenal. Β I almost like these better than our uniform people, FJM. Β Almost, because, well, people tend to love the uniform they spend a season marching in.. But great work!! Can't wait to see more!!!

THANK YOU!! Totally get the "brand loyalty" thing - the company for which I design serves a very diverse client base - might wanna check out their stuff HERE:Β  stanbury.com/designs.htm

Again, thank you - and best to you in your marching & musical goals!!

What kind of markers do you use in your non digital renderings? Like in the DCI XL throwback illustrations

Hey! Great question! Not Copic! Ha! ...Way overpriced and unnecessarily packaged, IMO... Probably great if Manga is your thing, but I digress...
I have been a Prismacolor guy for decades - both markers and especially colored pencils...
But here's the "hook" - I don't start in pencil. I found that "muddied" the renderings - Instead, I discovered Sharpie ultra fine point markers in light beige/tan or light slate blue/gray were ideal for sketching the figure and forms prior to coloring - it doesn't run while coloring so initial lines remain in place... I'll use progressively darker fine point pens and markers as I get nearer completion...
Hope this helps!

That's a really cool technique, I would have never thought of that. I've had a deviantart account for years, but I've never really posted anything. This past year, I've been kind of enraptured by drawing band uniforms, and I'll start posting a few on here. I would love to get some input from a professional.

I dig the new Coats uniforms. There seems to be a bit of reluctance on the top Facebook comments, but I disagree. While I loved the old Fullmetal Alchemist uniforms, I really also like the long military-esque coats. Sure, they'll be a little warm, but if Academy in Arizona can pull it off, I'm sure Bluecoats can.

Hey - thanks... Material of coat & bibber (pants) construction is a lighter-weight synthetic broadcloth Stanbury calls "Xtreme Dri"; has moisture-wicking climate control properties, like Under Armour... Plus all the flexibility you could want in a uniform... So, I'm sure they'll be fine

In case you ever get bored, I would personally LOVE to see a "re-imagined" version of the Racine Scouts uniform. They're one of those corps that will probably NEVER change their look, but I'd like to see what they could potentially look like if they ever did.

At the request of the corps, I actually did a slight update for them a few years back - never went into production, but who knows - might become a reality someday...

I am a 2011-2012 member of the Phantom Regiment. I just aged out this past summer and have been looking for a unique tattoo design from our chevron. I like your concept of our image, and I really would like to talk to you about getting one designed soon. My email is zamprelli24@gmail.com. Please contact me at your convenience. Thanks!

How do I become a band uniform model? Band uniforms are seriously my most favorite things to wear. It would be a dream come true!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Becorps In reply to Chachizzy [2012-09-14 21:16:31 +0000 UTC]

Hello - I haven't been on in a while to check in on this site... Becoming a model for a band uniform company is simply a matter of physical proportions and geographical convenience... We do our photo shoots in Missouri - and we ask for certain key height-weight proportions. Speaking very generally here: If you're a size med-lg in off the rack clothing and are near or between 5'5 - 5' 8" you're probably a good candidate - There is, of course, a moderate stipend that comes with the "job"; other than that... not sure what else I can tell ya...?

Thank you for the reply! That was very helpful for me! I'm not quite in the correct body size, though. I'm almost 5'10" and size small.

Have you heard of Gold Drum & Bugle Corps? They're an Open Class corps located in Southern California est. 2005. They have had amazing growth in recent years but have yet to develop a strong visual/graphic identity. Would you consider drafting some designs?

Hmmm... thought I replied to this a few weeks back - guess i didn't hit send... Yes - in fact I really enjoyed seeing them when I lived out west; even put together a few sketches for the corps in the '07 off-season... Would certainly love to work with the corps and get a new, unique image put together soon!

...Dare to dream. I wish I could work with great BOA bands like P-C - they run with a different designer though...

BTW - Truly an awesome show this past season - maybe too much for the average audience member - Felt it should have been at least top 5 @ grand nats.

Heh, thank you VERY much. We worked our butts off on that show. We missed Finals by just 0.05 of a point. And the year before with Beneath the Surface, only by 0.25. It's a pretty big slap in the face missing it by THAT little.

I absolutely admire your gallery and designs!
How do you exactly get on a career track similar to your's? I imagine this would involve some graphic design?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Becorps In reply to AshleyScene [2010-10-12 21:18:36 +0000 UTC]

Thank you... My career path is rather a-typical though...
I studied studio art in HS & College; played in band, later got MS in Art Ed. No fashion courses until AFTER I started this job; didn't even do marching band in college (wasn't one on campus)... but marched drum corps.
I'm not a great example of studying with an intent to pursue a career, I guess... I have been a band geek for years, loved marching, and always sketched band and corps uniforms for "fun" in private - a friend asked me to post some of it on a message board, and it got lots of attention - from there, several corps/bands sought me out for uniform design independently, and then Stanbury got word of my work and hired me. ...Dumb luck driven by desire and a smattering of skill - So, if you want a career like mine, put your work out there and roll the dice - you might get lucky too!

...On a more practical note, yes... you should take classes, study hard, and turn in work on time - whatever... BUT whatever you're "in to", spend as much of your free time studying that - learn it inside and out so when you make designs based around it, you can speak not only passionately, but with expertise.

Thanks again for the kind words...
