mutual agreement between Brooke and Michael.

A friend of both mine and the band sent me this:

About TAOP's there are few reasons I guess. Mike told me that he feels that he pretty much archieved with The Axis everything he could and at this point it would be only a rehashing what they have already done before. And another lesser reason would that Brooke is moving to London. Temporarily or permanently, I don't know for sure.

I hope they don't stay broken up for so long, at least temporarily. But I can understand that there are some reasoning to it.I just hope there could be some new releases at least in the future.

Yes I hope so too, they wereΒ one of my favorite bands. They just need inspiration, they don't want their sound to get stale.

How about Industrial Doom/ Ambient? rather than Industrial Black/ Ambient.

(I know this is Brooke's page so... giving you ideas man, obviously your fans didn't want you split up)

Can you tell me how good is Stephen King's Crouch End?

I found this little piece of writing in the wikipedia article of the short story:

"A song by British black metal/dark ambient band The Axis of Perdition uses excerpts from the story as lyrics."

Which song uses Crouch End as inspiration?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Brainwronged In reply to morkner [2013-07-27 21:43:52 +0000 UTC]

Hello
Sorry for the late reply, I am busy with academic work and getting ready to move to another city so don't have regular web access.

The song 'forms on the other side of silence' from Ichneumon uses a sample of Tim Curry reading an excerpt from Crouch End. I'm not a massive King fan but it's actually a quite a nice creepy story even if the Lovecratian elements are a little hackneyed. I would recommend tracking down Tim Curry's spoken word version as his performance is brilliant.

Yes we decided to fold Axis. We have done everything we wanted to and much more. the story was finished and we had started to feel it was a burden. It's not very pleasant music to make and we did not want to disrespect it, ourselves or the people who enjoy it by continuing it out of a sense of obligation and duty. It also represents a chapter of our lives that is over and done with. Speaking personally I have to immerse myself in some pretty horrible memories and states of mind to get in the zone and that's something I don't want to do any more. It's not healthy and pretending felt dishonest. I'm not the angry, seething mess I was in 2002 an have no desire to be that ever again.

The other reason is that our studies are taking up more of our time. Mike is doing a music PhD and I am studying a geology degree. As well as being study intensive I pay for mine myself working full time. So that does not give me a whole lot of spare time for music and I would rather concentrate on projects I enjoy more. Also I just plain enjoy geology and palaeontology a lot more than music. As fun as it is completing a music project, getting a nice review or playing live. They pale in comparison to being in the field mapping or splitting a nodule and being the first person to see a fossil that has not seen the sun in hundreds of millions of years.Β  It really is a major kick for me to go out mapping, logging and collecting samples and then turn that into a story of millions of years of history. Being able to look at rocks and landforms and then read that story from them is something that brings me a great deal of joy.

As far as music goes I will be continuing with Hesper Payne and Halo of the Sun and a few one off things here and there as time allows. Mike will also be continuing with his own projects but you would have to ask him about them .

so there would be no chance of TAOP reuniting in the future?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Brainwronged In reply to morkner [2013-07-27 21:59:12 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely none.
We may make discordant and ugly extreme metal again in the future but it would but under a new name and not in the same conceptual world. TAOP is gone andΒ  has returned to the void from whence it slithered.

Hey Brooke,I've been meaning to ask:

How long will it be until an 'Axis' release?
I really have gotten into 'Tenements' so I was wondering what's the new concept for the next album.

morkner In reply to Brainwronged [2013-01-18 19:44:49 +0000 UTC]

Is it going to sound like 'Transition Hospital/Sewers' albums? or Tenements. I ask because I noticed Tenements wasn't as well received as your earlier works.

Personal preference, I really enjoyed your earlier work.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

Brainwronged In reply to morkner [2013-01-19 12:18:39 +0000 UTC]

Except for Ichneumon We always work with the concept first and then the music kind of globs round that. Because of that creative method while we can't rule out doing something in a similar vein to older works it will never happen intentionally. We are not the same people in the same circumstances as we were when those works were written and recorded so it's pretty much impossible to recreate the conditions. In the liner notes for the SYL album City Devin Townsend talks about a similar thing with people wanting him to remake that album and why its not going to happen.

Totally understandable friend! I guess those people who don't change, or "evolve", can not be considered human, as everyone and everything evolves constantly.

Axis is just a mutable weird thing really. All our other wors are fairly standard but Axis refuses to conform. Whenever we have tried the results have been terrible. But not in the good way.

Hey, if you like hearing ideas from fans, I have a good one.

Have you ever thought about a Hesper Payne/Aarni split, both of you seem knowledgable on the Lovecraft stuff, both are doom bands, both are absolutely wierd.

Brainwronged In reply to CrucifyTheWolf [2013-01-19 12:13:36 +0000 UTC]

Sorry Mike will beat me (again) if I let anything slip. We have a number of concepts we are toying with. Some you could call direct sequels to previous works and some are exploring areas of the universe we have not touched on before or if so not in detail.
