Actually I generally shoot in B&W with rolls like HP5, Tri-x, or T-Max (and when I'm poor with agfapan...). I also made some digital works, but don't like it to much like old argentic stuff that I can make by myself. So when you shoot in digital, it's always better (until today) to shoot the original in colour. If you have a reflex, you can shoot in both raw, and set the jpg image in black and white to have an idea of where you would go whith the post treatment. If no, shoot in colour and see a good tutorial to convert your photo into a huge B&W... if coloured original isn't good enought for you!
