Thank you so much for your reply Chelsea!!!Β Β

I hav a doubt to clear..

once i get my eyebrow piercing healed, i sure can remove it right???

from my research i hav found that frequent wearing of the labret causes it to migrate!!

so if i not wear it often provided i make sure that piercing is not closed, can i prevent migration in this way??

Hoping for your reply!!

regards,
MickeyΒ Β

Not wearing jewelry could prevent migration. but until a piercing is fully healed ( eyebrows take a long time ) and well established, the likelihood of it closing up is high.Β

As well as that, leaving it out and checking to make sure it is open can also be problematic, as it can cause irritation and damage to the tissue, which would thin the tissue, and could if damaged encourage that tissue to close up.Β

Most people find that it is more problematic taking out and putting in jewelry over simply leaving it in. My recommendation, if one is concerned about migration, is once it is more healed, wear curved bars with smaller balls ( 4mm, maybe 3mm), and perhaps wear titanium, as it is a lighter metal.Β

It will not guarantee no migration, as nothing can, but it can help.Β

the problem is tht cartilage bump has developed and is taking long time to heal...

ChelseaHeller In reply to Samahel666 [2018-09-21 19:10:11 +0000 UTC]

Those bumps are piercing pimples, which is a bump developed due to a build up of sebum, which is skin cells and body oils. Its especially common on cartilage, as the fluid gets trapped between the skin and cartilage. They do take time to do away.Β

The big thing is make sure to wash and soak the piercing frequently.Β
I recommend washing a minimum of 4 times daily. If you already are, some people need to wash their piercings more often ( I do myself). Up the washing a bit.
On top of that, soak the piercing 2-4 times a day in the salt water solution. Mix 1/4 teaspoon sea salt to 1 cup warm water. If you use too much salt it can cause more crusties and irritation, which can make the pimple worse.
Bottled water is best. If using tap water, boil water for 5 minutes. Make sure water cools enough where it will not burn you.
Its best to submerge piercing when soaking, so put water into a bowl or other container, most of the way filled, and submerge ear into it. Its easiest to do sitting at a table. soak for 5-10 minutes. After soak, use a cotton swab (Q-tip) to clean it to remove any sebum that may have drained. This will help reduce crusty scabs.Β

I would use the tea tree oil only once a way to avoid drying it out too much. Put a drop on a qtip and apply to bump.Β

Hello! A little birdie told me that you do piercings and stuff, so I need to ask you a question. I got an industrial piercing two days ago. Everything is going just fine. I just want to know if you have any tips for keeping it clean and how to care for it and make it heal without complications? I hope you can help, thank you~!

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ChelseaHeller In reply to emsae [2014-11-16 16:31:12 +0000 UTC]

Hey there! Yeah, I can help out with that. I give out a lot of aftercare after I do a piercing.
1. Clean your piercing with warm water and non scented hand soap.you can also use a q-tip to get behind jewelry. Rinse with warm water and made sure to get all soap off. Do this about 4 times a day if you can to keep it clean.

2. Do not use alchohal, hydrogen peroxide, or other such things to clean a piercing. They are far to harsh, hurt, and can really dry out the skin. As said, soap and water, and I suggest a saline soak.

3. As said, use a saline soak at least twice a day. You can make it yourself with sea salt that you can buy in any store. It's 1/4 teaspoon sea salt to 1 cup warm water. Make sure it desolves, and is in a container or bowl that you can easily fit your ear in to soak. If in a pinch at the time a couple of cotton balls soaked in the water pressed to each end of the industrial can be used, but it's better to submerge the piercing. This decreases scabs, allows the piercing to drain fluids, and promotes healing. Soak for 5-10 minutes.

4. If you are looking for a product to help heal the tattoo, I recommend "Emu oil". Only if you are not Vegan! If you arent, this stuff works great. A little drop rubbed into a piercing when it's clean can decrease a little discomfort, swelling, and also promote healing. Gives it a little moisture as well. You can find this at www.desertpalmsemu.com
I recommend avoiding thick ointments and lotions, because it can cloclog it up and cause pimple problems

5. All piercing gets Sebum, which is skin cells and body oils that collect in the piercing as the body tries to heal and you sweat. It's milky white in appearance and smells rather like funky old cheese. Which is where it gets the nickname piercing cheese. It's normal especially on cartilage that takes a long time to heal. Soaking will decrease this stuff. If you get a build up of the stuff it can form a piercing pimple, which is both uncomfortable and fusterating, but can he fixed with extra soaks, it will just take a while to soak out.

6. Cartilage piercings are a long healing piercing, because the piercing must grow skin around the cartilage. So be patient and don't take out jewelry, even for changing. It can take 6 to 9 months, possibly longer if a person is a slow healer. It should heal by the end of a year. As I said, that is a worst case.

7.a lot of people think you have to rotate jewelry, especially due to the earlobe piercing kiosks you see at malls. They claim if you do not move it the skin will "grow over the jewelry", when in reality what some times happens if the jewelry is often times too tight and the jewelry pulls into the skin. With a piercing done at a good piercing establishment, the jewelry had enough room for swswelling and large enough tops it does not happen. Body ppiercer now recommend NOT TWISTING JEWELRY. Reason being that moving the jewelry a lot can loosen the "fistula", which is that tube of flesh growing around the jewelry. It slows healing and can cause a loose fistula that can slide in and out of its proper place, which can make inseinserting jewelry a little tougher at times. Try to move it as little as possible.

8. Always wash hands when handling piercing.

9. Check that jewelry is tight regularly, because the ends unscrew. I suggest also buying spare ends in case one falls off as well.

If you have any questions on top of this, feel free to ask!

Thank you so much, this really helped! It started to hurt a bit two hours ago, and I even cleaned it. It started hurting about an hour after I cleaned it.

ChelseaHeller In reply to emsae [2014-11-16 20:02:14 +0000 UTC]

Because industrials take so long to heal, they are tender quit a bit. Try soaking it if it's really uncomfortable. It some times helps. And make sure to get all the soap off, that can cause irritation if some lingers
