Character Comparison 10: Boyfriends/CrushesAkira Tsubaki (Mysterious Girlfriend X) (Positive +):
The relationship between the main characters Akira Tsubaki and Mikito Urabe is a relationship that happened suddenly and had a very interesting starting off point; Tsubaki tasting some of Urabe's drool, developing a love sickness for her, and realizing that they do have feelings for each other. Their drool also connects them as well, and can let Tsubaki see what Urabe is thinking, as she appears to be hesitant when it comes to showing her emotions. Their relationship, however, more than makes up for the odd and spontaneous circumstances surrounding how the relationship started. They have not even kissed yet, but it is clear that they love each other from their exchanges to their reactions to each other. Urabe wants their relationship to move slower than usual but he respects and understand her feelings. He even learned through their drool ritual that she wanted to save their first kiss for just the right moment, which has not
I discuss a bit more about Jimmy Jr. in this journal, who is one of my least favorite characters in the show.,Β

Fantasy Baseball was a mixed bag.
The main plot while probably being the "Best" of all the Stan & Steve episodes to come from the TBS/zombie era thus far, was pretty damn boring as per usual when it comes to an episode with these two, especially since any episode dealing with them bonding will pretty much be pointless by the end so why should I give a shit especially when I hate both characters normally?
The subplot on the other hand was actually pretty entertaining making it theΒ making this the first episode for 2019 in which I thought it was better than the main plot. Sure, it was pretty much another case of it existed just to give Roger some screentime since he couldn't be shoehorned anywhere into the main plot, but the make up for it by having the craziness of his desperate attempts to make Francine happy escalate into a way that's pretty funny and not episode derailing. Additionally, this subplot does the same thing that My Purity Ball and Chain does where it ends with him actually being punished for his actions even though he attempts to get away (and fails).
So yeah, better than most of the episodes to come from the show so far this year but only for the subplot. Probably helps that this episode was written by Tim Saccardo who also wrote Casino Normale and (You Gotta) Strike for Your Right, two of the only worthwhile episodes of their respective seasons. So of all the show's current writers his track record's definitely among the best simply for being around for almost two years and having yet to write a single downright bad episode. Although this one is easily his weakest by far simply for having a very uninteresting and nonengaging main plot.

The season finale of AD! last night was about as "Good" as most of their past finales were, as in not very and them deciding to end the season out on a smelly ass fart was pretty much all the proof I needed to convince me that this season ties with Season 7 as the show's worst to date!

Well, Fleabiscuit was actually kinda boring which pains me to say for a Hayley episode.Β Basically, this episode suffers the same problem that last week's did where despite there being a decent idea for a story in there, they couldn't get it to episode length and were forced to fill the rest of it out with pointless padding. Granted, at least this episode was able to make it to about 15 minutes in terms of actual story material and the padding consisting mainly of bizarre FG style joke attempts or "Gags" that are lame attempts to prove how "Edgy" the show is now (Roger being sexually assaulted by Kelsey Grammer and him making out with Hayley which due to his dog persona is seen as bestiality). But I'll take padding filled with lame joke attempts over padding filled with pointless gore.
Still, it is better when compared to most of this season's episodes and was ultimately OK-ish enough to once again be an honorable mention episode (at least by the current bottom of the barrel standards of the TBS/zombie era).

Funnyish Games was better than all five of the last four episodes combined, but not decent or even good enough to be considered one of the three to five only worthwhile episodes of a modern season.
If you hate pointless gore and scenes that go on too long, then boy howdy is this episode full of both, to the point where there's so much of that that cutting them out (along with the pointless subplot which felt like an excuse for Kirk Rudell to once again shit all over Hayley by making her look like an idiot) would only make the episode just barely a little past 10 minutes!
That said, this episode also has an end of act 2/beginning of act 3 twist that would normally derail an episode but actually helps to benefit this one, especially since the majority of the episode preceding it was a little boring thanks to all the scenes that drag and pointless gore.
So yeah, not really good enough to be a fully worthwhile episode, but OK enough to be an honorable mention, at least for the bottom of the barrel standards of the TBS/zombie era.

Well, it could be worse. It could be an outright dead rotting corpse like The Simpsons is now.

I'd honestly say that American Dad! is the rotting corpse. Most times The Simpsons is just boring whereas around half of the episodes per season for AD! are just awful!

JohnMarkee1995 [2019-03-19 17:53:49 +0000 UTC]
Well, Top of the Steve was different when compared to most of the TBS/zombie episodes of AD!. That said, different isn't always good and this episode proves that. The episode honestly feels like it was written for Family Guy just based on it's premise of lampooning/pointing out clichΓ©s of spinoffs, to which there are so many and all of all of which not funny that they all fall with a very hard thud!
So yeah, not really a good episode, but still better than all of the last four combined.
At leastΒ the next two episodes will hopefully bench Stan, Roger and Steve at least from the main plot, because these last five episodes really showed how for one reason or another all three of them just don't work as lead characters 95% of the time anymore!

It's been Family Guy 2.0 ever since moving to TBS and entering into it's zombie era, this season though with episodes like The Mural of the Story, The Legend of Old Ulysses and this week's just solidifies it!

Twinanigans was better than all three of the previous episodes put together, but still pretty bad. Basically think Shell Game (already not a good episode), except if it was even worse overall and the main plot was another installment of the American Dad! Rehash Spectacular! as the main plot pretty much rips off at least three different episodes (Irregarding Steve, Cops and Roger and A PiΓ±ata Named Desire). And of course, in classic AD! fashion they're forced to go "Pointless gore FTW!!" when they write themselves into a corner (despite there only being about five minutes left when they do), and the subplot is there just to fill up the minute and a half that the already waifer thin main plot couldn't!

Well, despite my better judgement I ended up caving and watched tonight's AD! and... It actually makes Flavortown look as if it wasn't written by someone who was likely baked off his fucking ass when he wrote it in regards to how bad and stupid this one was.
Then again, I guess I shouldn't have expected much from the same guy who also gave us such "Classics" like Family Plan and Railroaded.

The 250th episode of AD! was about as good as the 200th was... As in not very, and felt more like a standard bad episode than an actual milestone.
Also, if you don't like the character Billy than tough shit to you as this episode introduces Rogu, whose basically a less funny version of an already unfunny one-joke character!

On a regular basis at least, I'll check an episode out when it airs if it's about Hayley and/or Francine. Unfortunately, all of the next three episodes with airdates are ones heavily focused on Stan, Roger and Steve AKA the worst and most boring of the main cast.
I wouldn't blame you if you decide to call it quits either.

I'll tune back into the show within a week or so. Btw, I think Steve might be the funniest character on the show now (at least he used to be funny). Roger was funny too before he got shoved into nearly every single episode where he was pushed into the spotlight.

Admittedly I was fine with Steve up until News Glance with Genevieve Vavance. After his actions in that episode (which went as far as making me go "You. Fucking. SELLOUT!!"), I've never been able to see him the same way again, and his bratty behavior in episodes like Morning Mimosa and Julia Roberts hasn't helped him either. That said, I consider Witches of Langley to be the best episode of last season (though I like it less and less each time I rewatch it).
Roger was fine up until what you said, plus the Flanderization he went through when his psychopathic behavior was taken to the point where it went well past the point of being considered evenly remotely funny.

Stan is still the worst out of all of them when the writers make him out to be a total asshole to everyone and now there's nothing really funny about him at all now. In some cases, he might be even worse than Peter Griffin.
π: 0 β©: 1
JohnMarkee1995 In reply to ChillyIncorporated [2019-02-26 20:53:11 +0000 UTC]
I'd say that Stan & Roger are equal on the shit scale, so I'll give you that. He's definitely worse than Peter, and honestly I find it hard to believe when I see people say that Brian is still worse than Stan & Roger!
Yeah, after The Mural of the Story it's pretty pathetic how the writers think they can still have Stan be considered a sympathetic character when that episode and others have shown that he no longer has any kind of redeemable qualities!

It can't be a coincidence that Seth MacFarlene plays the worst characters in Family Guy and American Dad. Roger, I can still find him funny sometimes but not for Stan. He's a lost cause.

Well, last nights AD! was a perfect example of the type of bad episode that with their overabundance is the reason why I will no longer continue to be a regular viewer after next week.
The episode was also from the same no-talented hack who also gave us American Fung and part one of Daesong Heavy Industries, and this episode proved that he's still just as shit now at his job as he was when the latter first aired nearly three years ago!
