It's given me the tips I need to do it myself, Only problem is he didn't paint the black bottom of his which is what I hate about the console.. Nevermind, it'll do.

I forgot to mention this, but when your sanding and priming its the same thing, let the primer dry for at least and hour. You might concider lightly buffing the DS with sand paper before you prime so it sticks better. Make sure your base prime is perfect, turn it in the light to make sure there are no imperfections. If there are some bumps or holes, there gona only get bigger and uglyer as you apply more coast of paint. Patients is going to be the key... I hope you have some.
Also, the guy said the paint was not the color he expected. This is often the case that the cap doesnt match the paint inside. Don't go out to wallmart and by the 97 cents cans of paint because there crap... I use krylon or better yet go to Pep Boys or an auto parts store and check out the auto paint... its a little more expensive but is higher quality and the cap color is usually dead on to what your paint is gona look like. It comes in a large variety of colors but because there for car's they usually arnt anything that extreme, blue red gray... car have kinda dull colors, so you if you can't find the color you want then try to find it in krylon. I think they make a laytex paint called H2O that doesnt have harsh fumes and cleans up with soap and water, so you might condiser that, especially if you dont have access to a spray booth.
Sorry for being so long winded, but I feel that its better to plan everything out and do it right the first time, esspecilally when your painting a $150 DS.

yeah... I actually saw that on joystiq and was gona point it out, but never got around to it... The guy said he had problems with bumpy paint on his final coat and said hes gona put more coast and some clear coat on, but that really wont solve the problem. What you should do is go to an auto parts store (or even home depot)and get some high grit sand paper, like 800 to 1200, and after you prime it, sand it and then prime it, and then sand it. Do this at least twice maybe more if needed, and then lay down very light coats of spary paint. Once you have a pretty solid coat, let it dry for 15 minutes. Hit it again with three or four very light coats. Let dry. If you think you need it, give it another light coat but it should be ready. Let it dry over night and dont touch it for at least 12 hours. Painting can be really tedious, but its all about patience. You'll want to rush the process but, belive me, its worth it to be patient and let the paint dry or else you'll get fingerpints or dust on the coat and it will stick out like a soar thumb.
