HOWDY HOWDY HOWDY I'm alright, for the most part! But since you asked I'm about to tell you all about my life for the past few months lol
I'm currently really involved in this series of four classes at my university where you get to train a service dog in the 3rd and 4th class! I'm in the second class right now so I'm going to take the 3rd class this summer and pick up the fourth class this fall. I asked my grandparents if I could stay at their beach cottage this summer and just commute the 40 minutes to campus Monday-Thursday and they said yes, but my dad has been such an jerk about it. He's just like "I CANNOT BELIEVE you are willing to take advantage of your grandparents like this, that damn dog is going to tear up the place, you are being so immature and wasting your time with these classes, you'll never get a job as an animal trainer so you need to start being more realistic, go to law school, yada, yada, yada..." :I
I'd be lying if I said I didn't see where he's coming from (the bit about my future), but the man has absolutely zero faith in me and it kinda hurts. Like dude, I'm really capable and just because I'm not out living out your grand plan for me where I go to law school and earn blood money and build a mansion doesn't mean I'm not succeeding. Thankfully my grandparents and mom are all for the program, so they basically told my dad he was just going to have to deal with it :')Β
But I'm also a Puppy Development Center Intern for the organization the classes are for, so I get to work with newborn pups up until they get to be a few months old and go to prison in West Virginia where the prisoners teach them their initial 125 commands. Then they get sent back to the school after a few months and get trained out in the real world by the students! I actually visited one of the prisons over my spring break and got to meet the some inmates in the program and see some of the dogs match with their clients! www.facebook.com/paws4people/p⦠;

Then I think I pop in around the 26 minute mark on this second video. They left the fattest puppy for me, so I was very obviously struggling to do what the photographer and wanted so we just had to lay him on the ground :') But the best part of this video is definitely close to the end when we're trying to get a picture of all of the puppies lying down. It was a struggle.

Most recently (tonight, actually) one of my roommates actually works at the Career Center on Campus and told me the police department on North Topsail Beach (on the same island I'm going to be living on this summer) needs an intern to ride around the beach on an ATV every weekend and holiday to hand out pamphlets and disperse beach safety information. I just emailed the Sergeant of the station asking for the application, and I just really hope I get the job. It's part time and pays $8-$9 per hour, so I can use that money to help pay for my college tuition. It wont be much, but it's something.
Annnnd very recently I got to meet New Politics!! I'm in the Association of Student Entertainment at school and we put on a big show every year and get to meet the act. They were really nice and gave us all hugs.Β www.instagram.com/p/BR4UoRiDYpβ¦
ACE also just had it's annual 24 hour movie marathon, Hawk-In, and I got to see Oh Brother Where Art Thou and Kill Bill for the first time (both of which I love dearly now). Watching The Wizard of Oz and The Shining in an actual movie theater was super rad too.
OH, and I'm also going to be living off campus next year in a real apartment so that's pretty cool. Β

SORRY FOR THE LATE REPLY, FINALS HIT ME LIKE A DAMN TRAIN
I suddenly had about three final projects (each required a 7-9 page paper and a powerpoint or art project) and some early exams so that's been my life since I last replied to you. It's been hell, but I got a 100 on my dog behavior final paper and presentation, my collective violence paper and presentation has yet to be graded (there's a special dark crevice in my heart for that professor... she has taken years off of my life with her blatant disregard for all the anxiety inducing situations she puts me in), I get my 20th century art grade back sometime this week, and I still have to take my other art final and my forensic psych final. SO YEAH.Β
I'm sorry you're having a bad time rn, though I can definitely sympathize with you. I didn't want to go to any of the universities in my state, so I applied to Virginia Commonwealth (literally the ONLY school I was really interested in attending), got accepted, got a great scholarship, and it still cost sooooo much. Like I wouldn't have even been able to afford the first semester (with my scholarship it would have been about $30,000+ per semester...). Then my second choice was only my second choice because my best friend was going there... didn't get accepted. Then my third choice closed after they accepted me (THEY CLOSED AFTER BEING OPEN FOR 110+ YEARS :/ ). So the university I ended up at (UNCW, rah rah rah!) was my last choice and I only applied because the campus was pretty, but I really can not image having ended up anywhere else. And this school even accepted me for the WRONG semester!! So I had to write a hella long appeals letter to the board of acceptance to get into the right semester. My "applying to college" experience was an absolute shit show, but it all turned out well in the end. And this college is only like $9,000 per semester, so still hecka expensive, but monumentally better than $30,000.
SO WHAT IM GETTING AT IS THAT EVEN THOUGH THINGS SUCK RIGHT NOW IF YOU KEEP GRINDING REAL HARD YOU'LL ACHIEVE GREAT THINGS NO MATTER WHERE YOU END UP. YOUR SITUATION MAY NOT 100% SUIT YOUR ORIGINAL GOALS, BUT YOU CAN TOTALLY MAKE GOALS TO SUIT YOUR SITUATION AND WORK UP TO WHERE YOU WANT TO BE OVER TIME.Β
It's hard, and in a perfect world it wouldn't be, but the world sucks sometimes so you've just gotta shove through tough situations as best as you can. Also, if you ever need to vent feel free to bombard me here or even on twitter! I can just listen or try to offer advice or silver linings, if applicable :'>

I have a friend who's super big on "speaking things into existence", which I know sounds like a load of crap but it's actually a really cool concept and motivator. Like once you say something and put it out there in the universe it's more likely to happen for whatever reason. So dude, you ARE getting into an awesome university and we ARE gonna achieve our dreams.

On a completely unrelated note, I got into my first ever car accident the other day! And it was about 4 hours before I had to take a final exam for my summer class :') Thankfully no one was hurt, but my car is totaled :/

mAN i'M SO BAD AT REPLYING sorry I read this ages ago but I just let my messages sit there >< That's a really good outlook, I'm happy I have you here to encourage me with things like this and I hope I can do the same for you. I'm still unsure on the university I'm going to and I'm scared of wasting time and money on it, but I think I need to remember I do have another chance if it doesn't work out right.
