Respect the Wildlife β¦..(Seriously)
Iβm writing this because there are wildlife photographers who donβt respect the wildlife and that bothers me. When a photographer goes out to take pictures you would think that they do this to purely capture the animal in its wild habitat doing what wild animals do. But there are people who distract animals, put animals in danger, or not pay any attention to the animals well being. The purpose of wildlife photography is to capture wildlife in the natural habitat. Here are some (dumb) things that people do to get those βonce in a lifetime shotsβ or the ones that make people say βOh my flipping shampoo!β
1. People throwing rocks towards an animal to get it to look up. Animals get very scared and run, there is a possibility that the animal(s) may not come back to that spot.
2. Going to zoos and taking pictures of animals in captivity is not wildlife photography. Zoo photography is completely ok to do but if you took the picture at a zoo just say so.
3. Getting closer and closer and CLOSER really bothers animals. In fact it causes them great stress. As you may know stressed animals are not happy animals. This may provoke an attack on you.
4. Literally capturing animals from the wild dose not mean its ok. This also causes stress to the animal. Capturing and animal and posing it is so unethical. The people who do this are the ones who donβt have the patients to go in the wild and enjoy it.
5. Invading nests is absolutely, completely, and utterly disgusting. People, please donβt do this. When you invade a nest or den that may mean that you are killing baby animals. I have one important thing to add however, touching a baby bird dose not leave a smell on it. As I do not recommend doing this donβt worry if you stumble upon a nest and knock one of the babies out. You can put it back in without a worry. There is one exception to taking picture of a bird nest up close. If you are a volunteer at a nature center and are responsible to watch nesting boxes then taking pictures well your at it is ok. You will find it to be very educational. But do not go opening nest boxes without knowing what you are doing. I have volunteered and done this, it was so much fun.
My last wordsβ¦β¦
Respect the animals and their space. If you have any questions regarding birds, bird photography, or bird nesting send me a message. I would love to talk.

Completely agree I can't believe how disrespectful people can be, even in zoos. They seem to think their capture on the mobile will be the 'best ever' and can taunt the poor creature, almost as if it's their right to do so ....... but don't get me on that soapbox. Hope you have a great 2011 of beautiful captures
