Good luck with your school assignment. Your concept sounds great. Opens up a world of possibilities and thoughts.
I would just suggest to start with it, you say the first one is easy, so start out with that. While working on it and writing down any ideas and feelings during that it might lead you to your next step, or at least narrow your options more.
Make it an interesting process for yourself which, after the assignment is over, you can use and further evolve when involving painting.
Maybe you can draw with charcoal as you can treat it a little like paint..?
Anyway, just some thoughts...good luck

Yeah, thanks a lot.
My Painting teacher assigned me something similar to the Charcoal Idea.
And I'm working vigorously at home almost everyday working on
some sort of drawing or painting..and trying to figure out
how to meld the two.
It's a stressful process, but the stress isn't as bad as it was
when I wrote the journal.
